i think the "eat a lot and don't grow fat without exercise" type is a misnomer.

If one eats more calories than he can burn off through daily activities, surely those excess calories must go somewhere.

So for those folks, I believe it is either:

  • No exercise => lose muscle mass => replaced by fat from unconsumed calories => skinny fat which most people hide pretty well under clothes, OR
  • Eat just enough or below calories for daily activity (sans exercise) requirement, adjusted for age, But because never exercise so also no muscle mass.

Sarcopenia is a real issue for Asian old folks because for many years, we don't have this concept of adequate protein intake, partly because our diet is biased towards carbs. And also the misconception that taking a walk, or swinging the arms around, or slapping the limbs to "encourage blood flow" are considered sufficient exercise (for seniors).

HPB has only in the recent years started the messaging of more protein intake and strength training for seniors. Since most here are in the starting phase of Seniorship, still not so bad because we are prob more well informed (and we practice what we know) than the other 95% of the senior population. But those 60s and above, I think very hard to change their lifestyle already. Your references are your parents, in-laws and elderly relatives. 😂

I actually got lots of muscle mass. But the "have more muscle mass to burn of those fats" did not work on me. I have to do lots of calories counting.

One thing I did not stop is drinking with friends and smoking. I guessed this make it difficult for me to burn those slight tummy fats. I also cannot sleep too much cos I got lots of things to do each day. Working, hobby, networking and many others I did.

you is happy is good enough. all of us have different goals to hit.

nowadays, I have to sleep by 12 midnight else the next day will feel like shit even if I get 7 hours. 12 -7 is ok. 3 - 10 is not ok. 3 - 7 is even worse.

I solve the problem for you. You just need to let go of your domestic helper. Your belly fat will be gone in 6 months. Many people here will be willing to help you here. 😁

Although I have no need for a domestic helper, can I put my name down here to be first in the queue if you really want to get rid of your belly fat? 😁

Well, I guess I just going to accept it cos I am to blame for no discipline. Just got to be happy with it. I remember I go to TW for 7 days. I walk so much daily about 20,000 steps. End of 7 days still gain 8kg.

Been having some mild dysequilibrium feeling on head movements for last 3 days. Stopped running until it gets better in case I fall.

Though I haven't been sleeping enough last few days.

Lol ageing Liao. Never had this before.

I like how she can finish her marathon race with a nice smile...

For me, was very shag face,  unable to smile.

Wah dunno how they train siah. They can't have a guide always running with them. Even running laps in a stadium isn't easy with no visual guidance.

Usually, they train with a regular guide.  Both persons must be able to work together.

The guide will tell the person what's happening in front

I think this misnomer comes about when people are younger. Higher metabolism, growth spurts, high activity (some don't see it as exercise), high brain activity (learning), higher testos levels... all contribute to this misnomer. All of the above drops when one gets older 😂 So to maintain overall body fat + good muscle % when older, lifestyle discipline needs to be in place.

Notice an old lady fell down (00:45) and sat on the floor. She couldn't get by herself. I guess this is what fraility and Sarcopenia will leads to. Also, low bone density might shatter her hip bones with such fall which is consider minor if we were younger. So strength, load bearing and some impact exercise needs to be rotate in when one get olders.

so old already still climb onto chairs and tables to argue.☹️

he must have done NS. High ground provides you added advantage. But he was standing on the ridge line, so he is very visible to the enemy.
