thats the reason i ended the fibre termination point at my door and ran my modem so that the wifi signal will run straight to my son's and daughter's room. My room i used cable broadband as the signal from the ont needs to turn more than 90° which i dont think is possible. My hdb layout......

maybe this top managements pips need a mil just like yours.......will open up their mind to all possibilities....

No ethernet cable port on my laptop and no HDMI port on my small Dell XPS laptop Can I connect to router to my laptop using a USB 3.0 cable and will that give a high download rate.

Just want to check the speed.

Oh, using USB cable I am not sure. Have to see what experts here say.

Yesterday went to a friend house.

Yes, the white trunking they used to connect from ONT to STB is unsightly.

My HDB was ready in 1999.

Whole unit got unsightly white trunking.

Thanks to these trunking, it was ez to connect from ONT to STB.

This is because Starhub management didn't do any thinking.

If they chose a STB with a wireless adapter like those android boxes

then you don't need to put the ugly trunking to your bedroom.

Its amazing how dumb people in top management can be.

Some people have 2 or 3 set top boxes in their homes can you imagine

how much ugly trucking they will have from their living room?

Maybe Starhub can try getting smarter people in top management.

:D

We've all got TV and FM radio points in every room of our HDBs and the cabling to them is hidden.

Why didn't Starhub make the transition from fibre termination point in the cupboard outside our flats to the normal cabling also outside in the cupboards.which connects to the TV and FM radio points in each room.

All that cabling is already hidden.

Our HDB completed in 2011.

I asked the reno to put draw wire in the false ceiling.

Also got Air Con trunking in each room and through walls.

So Starhub contractors used ceiling draw wire and a/c trunking for fibre connections.  No unsightly new trunking.

Those old TV FM radio points are using coaxial cables, which are obsolete in today's high tech speed. They cannot meet current speed data transfer for your internet and HD/UHD/4K/8K TV. Even a CAT5 ethernet lan cable is faster than the coaxial cable. Now is CAT6, even faster. Fibre optics is still the current leader, but due to cost, LAN cable is use to connect up the rest of the house.

Thanks for that.

But my 1 Gb fibre connection gives me 280Mbps at best and 90 Mbps at second best.

Why not give customers who don't want any knew trunking around their properties if they don't mind a slower speed which might well be not that much slower than what they now get with the new fibre internet.

I know that the previous cable internet speed I got at 30Mbps was actually easily sufficient to do whatever I wanted on the internet.

How did you measure your connection speed?

For wifi, no way you can achieve 1Gbps.  I only hit 500mbps with MacBook Pro.

For ethernet, i consistently hitting 900+.

I'm not arguing connection speed.

I'm saying that there might have been an alternative way to get TV and Internet in every room using existing hidden cabling which might well have given acceptable download speed and no unsightly new cabling for people who don't need high download speed for what they use the internet for.

They now understand they were a monopoly when they had cable TV.

They can charge any price and people had no choice. Sign up with them or no cable TV for you.

Now they have a competitor in Singtel TV and Singtel even have the advantage of English football.

So they are scrambling to revamp themslves.

If they dont have a monopoly the only competitive advantage they can have is a management that is smarter and have a vision.

If not they become a me too company.

But now got me three, me four, me five.

:D

I'm using a pair of these to bridge my Mio TV box in the living room, to the router in my study room, reusing the old coaxial cable that links both rooms. Cheap and good. 100Mbps duplex speed.

Caveat is, the AC adapters come in 110V and no support for 230V, do not plug them into our power sockets or the power adapter will be fried. Either you buy a DC supply from a local store, or use the USB power supply. BUT the USB power supply must be plugged into something that supports data, you can't use a handphone charger. Mine are plugged into the USB port of the router.

Edit:

Third gen converters supporting up to 1 Gbps:
