But dunno what was Sarri thinking, played him out of position. Since then, Kante has been brilliant only occasionally, and i suspect is becos opponent defence doesn't pay enough attention to him as they don't feel he's an obvious threat. Unfortunately for Jorginho, on the few occasions that I'd watched Chelsea played last season and this, a few matches he didn't play particularly well, and it made quite an impression. For eg. when Son ran past him, en-route to scoring that wonder goal last season, i think Jorginho must have wanted to forget the match straightaway. Guess it's just suay, as there were few times he played real good according to reports - just that i never watched 😓 Jorginho is those type of player whom only own team mates appreciate as he is not those easy on the eye type of player. I also don't see anything special about him. Makelele was the benchmark DM in earlier days till that position was called the Makelele role. Kante has since surpassed his achievements and is now the benchmark DM as France got the best out of Pogba when Kante covers for him and they won the WC together. Sarri feels there can be only 1 anchor deep lying midfielder so Jorginho is his preferred choice but Lampard's way of playing can accommodate 2 deep lying players so Kante can play his usual role but Kovacic has now adjusted to EPL and is now playing well with Jorginho so Kante may yet again be shunted out.

I'm watching with interest if Wenger really ends up at BM or not as Marcel Desailly claims he is too old to be on the bench but Wenger is not called Le Professor for nothing. Some claim his methods and insistence on the beautiful passing game is old school in this era of high press. The seat at BM is a highly sort after one and even JM is interested. Let's see who gets the job eventually.

Let's see who gets the job eventually. With the squad that Bayern possessed, the team definitely underachieved and should not be lingering at 4th position in the Bundesliga. Any decent manager should be able to propel them back to the top in no time. This is a job that is less likely to fail at least for AW and JM as compared to managing Arsenal/Real Madrid/MU. Perhaps that is why they are so interested. Edited November 7, 2019 by Derf8988 1

Yes, Makelele was the first player to glorify the DM role. RM's loss was Chelsea's gain. After him, another DM who might have rivaled him was Mescherano, but too bad he could only play that role for the national team as Pep converted him to CB in club soccer. Kante - the kingmaker - really levelled-up the DM role. What a waste he's no longer playing that much now. There were talks that Sarri might lure Jorginho back to serie A, but Jorginho is enjoying a decent spell now, so maybe that's not going to happen...

The official reply from VAR was that the handball was unintentional. Anyway, a win is a win and these kind of decisions normally evens itself out in a 38 game season. Pool certainly has the luck of potential Champs which all Champs enjoy, this is in no way taking away their excellent form to date n also the fact that they seem miles ahead of the rest of the teams. On a separate note, the gap between 4th and 5th is now 8 points which is I think the most ever after 12 games and at this rate both the title and the top 4 spots look like being sewn up after only 1/3 of the season?

I was a strong advocate of VAR before it was introduced but I’m now having second thoughts. Trust Football to be the sport that can screw up video technology when other sports like rugby, cricket and tennis amongst others have embraced it and improved their judgement calls and decision making to make less unjust calls. The offsides measuring armpit, big toe etc has been a joke and the penalty calls n handballs are so inconsistent. I read that PGMOL head Mike Riley will now rescind his earlier call for EPL refs to not rely on pitch side monitors and start using it instead. Of course this may lead to more delays but the rationale is the on pitch ref is the best placed official to make a call instead of VAR ref in a room many miles away. Let’s see if this improves the calls.

I also had my hands in mouth at that instant, but there were so many different things said. Even said the ball had hit Bernardo Silva's hand first before it hit TAA, and all unintentional. Maybe this one evens out the Origi's foul leading up to Utd's goal 😆 The league table does look skewed now. Gunners, Spurs, Utd, the 3 that made up the traditional top 6, will need to improve quickly and get back to where they traditionally are. Chelsea has done very well after that horrendous first match this season, so hopefully the others can also take heart and improve consistently.

The handball rule is very subjective and varies from 1 ref to another. Think the lawmakers have to clarify and make sure worldwide refs are on the same page at least for most handball cases. Otherwise, it will be a farce and lots of frustrations when u on the receiving end.

Decisions will usually even out pre VAR is because decisions were made there and then at the spur of the moment with limited info Post VAR.. all decisions are deliberated using tech and multiple replays.... and ironically this has resulted in more controversy. When the intent was to reduce the number of controversial decisions It just make kelong easier

Actually they cannot avoid it - must systematically and conscientiously list out all the precise steps/considerations for all decisions. Only this way, then all referees can interpret in same manner, and also players/managers/spectators will know it's the rules and no need to argue. They need to finetune it that's for sure.
