Really?

The S type was rubbish and the x type was DOA. Plus those cars were terrible in the reliability area.

The xj and xf have a solid proven record. I may be wrong, but I still think this XE is a beautiful pussy.

I believe they were the last of Jaguar's Jags, given the development time Jag had for putting anything in place. It took Ford an awful long time to pull JLR around but........they did in the end. It was the same with Aston Martin.

Current XJ, XF, XE and definitely F-Type now are where Jaguar should have been all along.

Mini and Bentley same same.........but slightly different. It took complete outsiders into the British motor industry to turn around failed local companies. Honda tried it with Rover, but they also failed - it took a special mentality.

I had the X-type 2.5 and S-type 2.5 in succession. Both were reliable in my ownership years, and Wearnes did provide good experience when it came to servicing and repairs. The X was a better drive than the S being nimble with decent handling. However on NS highway, the S proved itself to be a good cruiser. What put me off about the S was the small boot despite the car's size.

The review show the suspension is pretty darn impressive [thumbsup]

Its great that the car manufacturers are going out to compete for the best saloon car, it makes the other keep up so consumers keep getting better rides [laugh]

Hope I get a change to drive the XE

SURE XE FAILS?? Which reports have you been reading? See these few below from a simple search.

Jaguar XE vs BMW 4-series vs Mercedes C-class triple test review (2015)

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/comparison/2015/jaguar-xe-vs-bmw-3-series-vs-mercedes-c-class-triple-test-review-2015/

Verdict

Seldom are giant test verdicts so tough to call. Let’s not pretend this is any kind of walkover for the XE because the opposition is too tough for that. But the BMW, exciting as it is to drive, does fall first, and not merely because of the Gran Coupe’s price disadvantage. Had we thrown in a 3-series it would have suffered from the same debilitating lack of refinement that relegates this 4-series to third place. These are sports saloons, but they’re also meant to be miniature luxury machines and the 4’s uncouth engine and poor road noise suppression doesn’t cut it.

The Jaguar and Mercedes are harder to split – not because they’re so close in character, but because they’re so different. For many buyers, for casual car fans and your company’s accountant, the C-class is unarguably the better car. It oozes class, it’s got the best interior, it’s brilliantly refined and yes, it even handles tidily. For the Jag to win despite its slightly tighter packaging and occasional quality foibles, it’d have to be brilliant to drive and we’d have to really care that it was. Fortunately, it is and we do. If the BMW’s athleticism comes at the expense of luxury, the reverse is true of the Mercedes. It’s a brilliant car, but one lacking a little dynamic sparkle in the face of the XE, a car whose chassis doesn’t make you choose between luxury and performance, and whose other qualities are close enough to the Merc’s for us to accept as penance. It’s tight, but in the battle of the sports saloons, only the Brit really feels like one, and that’s why for us, the Jaguar XE wins.

Motor Trend first to compare Jaguar XE and BMW 3 Series

http://www.autoblog.com/2015/06/29/bmw-335i-jaguar-xe-comparison-motor-trend-video/

Lieberman says the English company spent its money on the XE suspension and it shows, but there have been other efforts from other automakers with excellent dynamic chops that weren't enough to threaten the BMW. His final assessment is that one of the two cars is awesome, and one is quite a bit better. Watch the video to find out which is which.

yea man same here. hope to test drive the XE. IMO jaguar is a totally different breed from the A4, 3 series and the C class. The OMV is higher already gives you a clue (for same spec car).

heard it's about 40k to 42k. that's E class/5 series omv range, although different class.

XE = C class = 3 series = A4 = jetta (for the person who was comparing against passat)

XF = E class = 5 series = A6 = passat

XJ = S class = 7 series = A8 = phantom

Agree. However, I have $$ constraint so must compare based on price bracket.

XF vs Passat if don't consider price, no brainer I think.

More interested in the diesel models and should be cheaper than petrol models due to cevs discount for lower carbon emission.

I also prefer the desel models but do no think they will be cheaper.

If you check the UK site for jaugar. The disel modesl going for ard 5k GBP over petrol models.

So I guess, the disel will come in ard 220k here.

The Passat is for sure matched against the A4 and C-Class so I'm not quite sure where you pick a Jetta from. VW have nothing to compete with an A6 and goes straight to the Phaeton.

WhatCar UK review says......

"Passat’s pricing puts it up against mainstream rivals such as the Ford Mondeo, as well as (smaller) cars from premium manufacturers such as Audi and BMW. It stacks up well against them all, so is a fine choice whether you’re a private buyer or company car driver."

When it says "smaller" I assume the 3-Series, C-Class and A4 (not, for example a 1-Series or A3). At between S$45k to S$72k it definitely goes head-to-head with, for example an A4 that goes between S$50k and S$82k. The XE sits a bit higher between S$54k and S$90k but they're all in the same ballpark. Which would I go for in that ballpark.........hmm, either the new A4 or XE but locally for more exclusivity and support by Wearnes, the XE has a big advantage from my point of view.

Finally, for comparison sakes, the UK pricing of a Jetta is between S$38k and S$47k, finishing below where the rest even begin.

Human being are diverse. Some people start looking for a car from a budget standpoint. Say, they have 150k-180k budget for a car. And they look for a car in similar price where people may compare Passat with A4, BMW 3er, etc.

But some people start looking for a car from functional perspective. They want a mid-size car. And Passat and A4 are in a different segment.

For me, I belongs to the latter one. I want a mid-size car with good room. Although some car start to make this a little blur. Like a C-class is no longer compact, it is in between compact and mid-size since the compact one is now taken over by CLA. Also, if you want space, BMW active tourer give you a lot of space though the car length is a compact car.

Two questions: Is the XE worthy of wearing a Jaguar badge? Should the Germans be afraid? One answer: Yes.
