I currently owns a 08 Vios, this was handed down by my father in law which buy this car on impulse when he already has another car. He went to extend 10 years COE for this Vios on year 2017, which has a superrrr low mileage, which will end on Year 2027. Cut the story short, well although now that at least I helped make full use of this Vios for 2 years already; instead of just rotting at the MSCP, i have 2 kids and this Vios does seems too small for me. I am not exactly looking for a 7 seater, but at least a SUV. Which car would I be looking at for better value, cause I just need one to get from A to Z. Questions: 1) should I really get rid of this Vios or continue with it since it has been renewed for 10 years. 2) if change, get new or used ? 3) which car would you all recommend 小弟我 kamxia all whom replied. 😃 1) Try get a quote from New car dealer and see if they give good deals. 2) if wana sell old car dealer, i think they will take in coe rebate and give abit more nia. SUV can consider is Vitara 1.4T @ abit > $100K I feel most value for money de SUV.

The vios only weights 1000kg, I think you are getting very good mileage at it. And further more, it is a Toyota, the maintenance is very minimal. And further more, I assume the car is still under your FIL name, I think not very nice to sell away his car as he theoretically still owns it. FIL has no use for this car, his last message to me is actually to change too lol...

Ct3833 Supersonic November 20, 2019 Share November 20, 2019 TS, the 2017 PQP of your current vios should be about high 40k to 50K, , you could get back about $40k of remaining COE if you sell it, there would be minimum value for the car body. So your consideration should be , with the $40k, you can use it as down payment for a next car, what spending budget is comfortable to you. On the question of whether to buy new or used, my opinion is to buy new if you will to take the plunge, because used car will have the same depreciation as new car, might as well get new. If you want to buy used, might as well stick to Vios, because i am assuming your vios is well maintained, buying another used car may not be of the same condition as your vios since you are unable to know the history of the used car. of course you may get a good condition car. you are using it for point A to point B, Vios is good enough, if you have money to buy a SUV, go ahead. But it does not make sense from financial point of view, it solely depends on your spending priority. You just have to roughly compute the incremental cost between a new SUV vs our vios, then touch your heart and see if you should spend the money, table the sum and discuss with your CFO as well. Like bro @Ka_kia have suggested, go get a new car deal to give you a package deal and go home and think it over again.
Watwheels Supersonic November 20, 2019 Share November 20, 2019 Better ask the FIL first. Dont make the vios machiam it's his.
Jamesc Hypersonic November 20, 2019 Share November 20, 2019 Vitara a lot more spacious than Vios? At best is inky marginally bigger. Btw FIL say sell and no need to pay money back and just use to get a new car? 1

Is more like TS prefers suv and drive 1.4T vitara is most value for money. I last checked the parf can take back 10K and its cat B COE. LOL Compare to vios 1.6 liter right, with 10% increase road tax, is save on the road tax part lor. Else I cant really think of more value for money de suv with adequate bhp and Torque for a small engine. IMO, eclipse cross is CVT transmission, looks not better and selling more expensive. LOL
Sugimoto 6th Gear November 20, 2019 Share November 20, 2019 (edited) I think TS should just continue driving the Vios since the car already paid completely to last until year 2027 (only need to care about roadtax & insurance). I don't see the point getting into a debt with a new car while the money can be spend on childrens' education, enrichment class in future ot even bring your whole family out including your FIL for a good meal every weekend. Jamesc Hypersonic November 20, 2019 Share November 20, 2019 I think the most important detail is discussed yet. If TS has the money and he really likes the SUV then go for it. And yes SUVs always have great head room. 1

Jamesc Hypersonic November 20, 2019 Share November 20, 2019 I just remembered I sat in the back of the Mark 1 once and it was only a short ride and it was damn uncomfortable. I am not a princess as I am perfectly comfortable sitting on a bus. I also remember driving a Mark 2 Vios and I couldn't get comfortable in the driver's seat. It was like someone putting a fist against the small of my back. I have sat in a Chery QQ and I was perfectly comfortable in that car seat. Based on my experience of that car's seat I think TS should change as soon as possible.

I have a COE Altis, though I hardly use it but whenever I drive it, I fee very comfortable because I save quite a lot of money against driving a new car . If TS mindset is not clear, his decision can be easily poisoned by some MCFers here 😄😄 But buying a new car is not just a financial decision, because car in sgp so expensive that it has been seen as a priviledge to some and a status symbol to some others, so one may stretch his financial to buy one, after all life is short. 😄😄. No right or wrong. Edited November 20, 2019 by Ct3833 ↡ Advertisement
