Come upon this video from YS Khong. He is trying to restore a 27 years BMW 318is Coupe. Car had been idle for 6 years.

This is the part 1 of the video. Interesting to see the whole restoration process.

I will update the video if he post the latest one.

Would do the same in any other country, but not Singapore.

In fact I helped a friend rebuild his 1982 VW Rabbit diesel a few years ago when I was still living overseas.

Maybe I should start to look for a nice project across the causeway when all this covid crap is finally over.

This is a nice model to restore it.

Issue here in Singapore is the LTA rules and rules to comply.

I would keep this model if I'm not in Singapore.

Many spare parts is still available overseas, moreover the body work still look good.

I had a 318is coupe. They easy to keep, lower rd tax and modern to live with daily. Not sure what LTA rules you are afraid of.
Old BMW parts are also readily available and easy to order if not. Even my 2002 I can still order parts from Eng Soon.

Initially....

First one I bought with my own $$$. Before that there was an E30 I shared with my dad, E30 316i depre 3k+ a year nia, can thrash and go dori dori.

Actually.... I don't have much of car history... don't change cars that much. Also ended up buying back my old car last time.

The red look better leh..

The car that YS Khong is restoring is manual stick, will not have auto gear box complicated problem.

E30 is completely pure mechanical. It is good for DIY.

E34/E36 has more electronic.  May need more know how if DIY.

E39 is my fav. It is closer to our modern with less electronic stuff.
If the car comes with cassette player, it is the best for me.

318is are mostly manuals. 318is Autos are the rare ones. Auto boxes from this era also not much of an issue to sort out.

Whichever is cheapest to buy. E30s are out becos local sellers are asking silly $$$. So from your list either the E34 or E36. E36 have bad Interior plastics, E34 base models are slow and steering box is a pita to sort.

Hi, I am looking at a E30, selling for $39k. Would you recommend this buy? It's listed at sgcarmart.

Cos it's Manuel and road tax lower due to 1.6cc engine
