This should be the replacement for the >10 years old Sharan.

Photos above are for the standard wheelbase version (4,712mm in length), which will be available in 5 or 6 seater configuration. A long wheelbase version will be added by next year which will be a proper 7 seater (2-3-2 sitting arrangement).

The market launch of the ID. Buzz is scheduled for later this year when European customers will be offered a single 82.0-kWh (77.0 kWh net) battery option. Power comes from a single electric motor with 201 hp (154 KW) and 310 Nm of instant torque – figures that match the current VW ID.4. Unfortunately, Volkswagen is not ready to announce range numbers and these will follow at a later date. More battery versions and additional power output levels will be launched starting next year.

The maximum charging power when plugged into an AC station is 11.0 kW, while a CCS connector at a DC station allows for charging rates of up to 170.0 kW. Recharging from 5 to 80 percent will take about 30 minutes at a fast-charging station. Customers in Europe will also benefit from an optional bi-directional charging function, which means they’ll be able to power their homes with the electricity in the battery.

ID. Buzz Cargo

This cargo version reminds me of the transporter. Time for the Transporter to retire as well.

While passenger version of the ID. Buzz sports bright colors and interiors, the Cargo Variant takes a more serious approach. Available with either a three-seat (one driver’s seat and a twin-seat passenger bench) or with two individual seats, the Cargo features a partition separating the load area from the driver’s compartment.

This partition will be optionally available with a window and an opening for loading items. The load space itself features lashing rings and bars on the side walls to ensure cargo can be secured properly, while the van ditches the second sliding door. However, if needed, the panel van can be configured with a second sliding door as a custom option.

Hyundai and VW can make their cars looking so nice, but Japanese car manufacturers are still making  ugly looking boxy wagon, so much so that the  name also call boxy(voxy).

The car might look cute, but its dimension is not. Both width and height are close to 2m, so parking and entering some lower MSCPs will be an issue. Even worse than the minivan category such as Voxy/Noah and Alphard/ Vellfire. And the cost will be huge, estimate to start from 40,000 pounds in UK. Comparing, CX9 starts from 36,000pounds.

The original VW Kombi was one of the cars / vans I always wanted to own. My father had a series of VW Beetles, and I used to fall asleep to the sound of the drone of the air cooled rear engine as he fetched me to school..

The ID. Buzz comes from VW Commercial Vehicles and will be sold here both as an MPV (remember them?) and as the ID. Buzz Cargo van. The number of windows and seats varies but the funky colours and retro inspired design – think tall and glassy box with wheel at each corner and v-shaped bonnet – are common to both.

That shape is not just about form following function; it is aerodynamic too with a drag coefficient of 0.285. The original Type 2 had a Cd of 0.44!

 

Like the original T1, the motor is at the back and drives the rear wheels. Nope, it’s not an air-cooled flat-four with a wheezy and smoky 30 horsepower. It’s an electric motor built into the rear axle rated at 201PS (150kW) backed by 310Nm (228kW) of torque and fed by a 77kWh battery pack under the floor. Fast? No. The top speed is governed to 90mph (145km/h) and 0-62mph is so far unspecified.

Also unspecified is the ID. Buzz’s electric range. The ID.4 with the same battery gets 308 miles but this MPV version will surely be doing well to match that, despite its slippery aerodynamics and reined-in performance. What VW does say is that a fast (up to 170kW) DC charger can give the batteries an 80 per cent top-up in 30 minutes, which is familiar from the other ID models.

Also familiar is the eight-year or 100,000-mile battery guarantee and pledge that at the end of their automotive life the batteries will be repurposed to store electricity from solar panels. A new thing with ID. Buzz is the ability to feed power back into the national grid – you could even plug in another of the ID family of vehicles for a quick top-up.

The ID. Buzz takes its clean energy credentials a step further by being what VW says is entirely carbon neutral – a phrase that embraces everything from offsetting emissions during manufacture to a ban on animal products (so no leather here) and a range of sustainable materials in the cabin made from recycled plastics.
