"The total average cost of three meals a day in hawker centres, foodcourts and coffee shops was $16.89, said the report.

Based on this figure, the average cost of eating out for a month of 30 days is $506.70."

IMO, that $506.70/month per person for 3 simple meals a day is actually high. Most people will surely also eat some fast food and some fancy/restaurant food. Maybe even add in a couple of fancy drinks, desert and delivery services. Some maybe even eat another supper meal occasionally. If we add in those extras, easily per month will be close to double of that average figure.

MCF members easily triple of that number for per pax per month looking at the makan thread here!😆

Yes. I once did a basic calculation of how much I spend on food monthly. $500 is on the lower end of the scale. Sometimes I reach $600-700, or even $1k.

No wonder money is not enough. 😅 And salary earn nowadays must be high, if not how to survive? Even can survive also might ended up not much saving.

Hello, $5.63 per meal you don't really have many choices. Imagine 365 days eating the same stuff. Is this worth all the trouble of living in a developed nation but slave to the 10%

Maybe this is their 'Swiss standard of living'. But without the corresponding high wages. 🙄

If we are following Swiss price without corresponding income, most of us cannot afford to eat out.

Big Mac Index shows that Swiss is about 62% higher than us.

Income here difficult to correspond to the inflation. Many people salary still low.

how to be no liabilities?

food, public transport, grocery, utilities (assuming no mortgage and serviced by cpf),

internet + mobile, medical, children (that's why sinkie cannot afford children),

maid if both are working, give parent pocket money, etc

all these supported by $5K ... minus CPF ... 20% ... take home left with $4K?

Can (other than mortgage paid via cpf) but basically from hand to mouth, zero luxury.   Hard life for the family.

maybe increase 0.25% instead of the hawkish 0.5%, and could be the last increase.

Inflation is peaking already, and looking at it the shadow of recession has already appear.  [laugh][laugh][laugh]

Without any outstanding loan, 5k is sufficient for simple lifestyle expenses 😂
