Change every 30k is too wasteful. More like every 100k.

As long as the coolant stoll got colour and at the max mark. Dun need bother about it.

If its below the min mark. Just buy same colour and top up. 

need to set AC/heater to max + run engine for at least 2 cycles where the thermostat is on with the radiator cap open. according to the angmohs.

You might have air bubbles trap in the system. Did you bleed the air bubbles ?

What you do is when your engine is cold, remove the radiator cap, then run the engine until it's hot.

You'll see the coolant going down as the engine gulps the coolant, then after a while pushing the coolant upwards as it expels the coolant.

Wait for a few cycles for any few bubbles trapped inside to be released.

After that, you can shut down and top up coolant and closed the cap. If there's not enough, just use distill water.

I used to flush coolant, but now forgot how to do it. 😁

same brand also got different coolant

last time my W204 was using blue colour coolant

now is pink

So i bought a 2L coolant bottle on 11.11 to "top up". I also watched some youtube videos, so i do know how to release the spigot valve at the bottom of the radiator for my model. To do a full change would probably require somewhere in the level of at least a a couple more litres.

Hmm today morning went to take a look when my engine was cold, but the coolant in the reservoir tank is actually above the maximum mark.
Then open radiator cap is u can see the fluid level but i know there's no marking inside.

So should i buy more coolant and do a full flush? Is the above the maximum mark coolant level in the coolant reservoir abnormal?

My engine temps dont seem to have any issue.

 

what type of coolant did you buy? the premix type or the concentrate type? 

if just small volume top up, usually distilled water will suffice, or even our tap water in emergency case. 

when u open the radiator cap, is the fluid near/at the top? what color is the fluid?

overflow reservoir at above maximum level - perhaps the workshop already top up with water for you because they didn't change coolant? i have seen workshops overfill it and then the fluid leaks out via the plastic cap when it gets hot.

did you mean radiator cap? Gnahp was talking abt radiator caps. 

anyway for radiator caps, they come different sizes. Also have one way valve type and two way valve type. 

not sure abt the plastic reservoir caps but these are usually cheap to buy from the AD. I recently changed new coolant reservoir cap and wiper fluid reservoir cap

speaking of W204, its cooling system is amazing

I owned it from new for 9.5 years, clocked 280,000km

radiator no leak

coolant hoses no leak, not even minor seepage, all joints and couplings completely dry like new car

never change coolant, factory recommendation is every 15 years, only need to top up once a year in the last two years

water pump also no leak, never change

only two items I need to replace

1. thermostat - 6th year/ 185,000km, I changed it because I noticed the warm up time was a little longer than usual, early sign of stuck open thermostat

2. climate control hard plastic water pipes - 4th year/140,000km, I changed because I spotted a leak, the hard plastic pipes cracked because it is located near to the turbocharger

Wah you lucky. Merc, vw and bmw expansion tank always leak. Always!

merc radiator hoses damn robust.

I know aged plastic is fragile, especially those exposed to heat 

I always very careful not to disturb that plastic tank

I know it will crack or turn into powder if I touch it 😁

Cooling System Amazing,but Fuel System Sucks...[you mentioned in another thread the Fuel Hose or Clamp not tight,causing Fuel to leak],so what is the point.?

some parts I expected it to fail but it never - i.e. cooling system, aircon, power steering, fuel pump, gearbox, wheel bearings, ignition coil, turbocharger, belt, belt tensioner & pulleys 

some parts I expected it to last but they failed - i.e. ECU, E-throttle body

Oops the truth is revealed. My shitty merc also needed to replace the throttle body. And I also suspected the ecu was intermittently failing. 
your front and rear SAM never replaced?

typical is also door locks. I changed one side of the bonnet catch. 
cars these days are damn crappy. 
enough of OT. 
 

back to topic of coolant. Which i feel that should be change every 4-5years. And brake fluid every 3.

Actually even for premix. Some distilled water can be added. All we need is the pump lubrication and anti rust properties. Don’t need the anti freeeze here
