If memory serve me right. During LKY there weren't any cash/vocuher handout. Only in the later year of LHL then we started to see the handouts during budget speech.

Even if opp win 2 GRC in this GE, the system still would not crash. Total only about 20 opp in the parliament, the ruling party still formed the majority of seats lo. Lol.

It is really fantastic how love is so forgiving. The love for WP and PS is so beautiful that it can forgive and forget whatever WP and PS did, and refuse to think a little deeper.

Is Goh MS wrong? Or sld I ask is he totally wrong? 

Obviously he is wrong to say that WP and PS do not want to see him (GMS) into Parliament. However, if he had rephrase it to, WP and PS do not want to see any other oppositions other than themselves into Parliament. Is this wrong? If we look closely at what WP and PS said and did, and think a little deeper, it is not entirely wrong. 

Let us look at PS nomination speech, he started by saying they are (he used the term "we") not able to meet their objective of having 1/3 oppositions in the Parliament this GE. By that the 1/3 oppositions he was actually referring all from WP. So what about the other opposition parties? 

The opposition development has clearly come to a stage where WP consider themselves as the only other party, the alternative party, and they are not prepared to speak to anyone else. Is this their party principle or ego of the leader of opposition because the rest has openly recognized TCB as their leader of opposition the last election. 

I am not too interested in if it is right or wrong for WP to behave such, but more concern on if it is more beneficial or demaging to the whole opposition environment and development. 

Is a MP walkover beneficial? Let's not forget that having every place contested (even if is a deposit gone case) is important, as it keeps the incumbent busy and restrict them from deploying candidates freely to their advantage. Had MP was contested (by whoever and whatever), TSL cannot leave , and if TSL cannot leave, DPM GKY cannot move, unless TCH or HSK fill those gaps. Not contesting MP and not allowing anyone else to contest MP is not beneficial to WP, esp in their fight in PG. The fact that WP would rather gift MP to PAP, so that they can come back and fight again in 2030, rather than allowing someone else to fight there to keep the PAP busy is sad. 

This move will also likely starts the line between WP supporters and opposition supporters, and there is a chance that opposition supporters might view WP differently now. 

Yes, geographically MP is not as important as EC and Punggol to cut out the whole of the eastern SG land, so yes, go contest EC, go contest PG. But to forgo a 1:1 fight in MP and goes into a 4 way fight in Tampines is beyond acceptable, and the reason given by PS is a joke. He said his "brother", Faisal had always wanted to contest Tampines, and so now they go. Because Faisal wanted and not because it is important to contest Tampines? The real hidden reason, I speculate, is because of the area taken from Aljuined GRC into Tampines GRC. By contesting in Tampines, PS is telling the incumbent that you cut away part of Aljuined, and I will go to wherever that part goes and fight to take it back. This might stop any parts of other WP wards from being cut away in future, but it could also path a way for the incumbent to plot for traps by cutting up more WP hold areas, forcing WP into fights they are not ready yet, or of clear disadvantage. Is this a beneficial move to the WP? Maybe next election we shall know.

Currently, anywhere WP wanted to contest, most of the time others give way, but will this unwritten and unofficial benefits continue after this incident? If this welfare is remove, and others refuse to back out, WP will not only have to fight the PAP, it would then have to fight everyone else. How does this benefits the WP?

Of course PS has his reason for whatever happened, he is the leader of opposition after all. I am just concern of a 3 way break too early, the PAP, WP and all other oppositions.

Definitely tulan that he is going to lose his deposit as he thought Tampines is safe due to past elections. Will lose but at least not $67500..

Maybe he misread that leader of the opposition is supposed to lead all the opposition. It's supposed to lead 'credible opposition'.

I share your thoughts on HS performance and I think we shouldn't automatically qualify someone to be great because of their credentials. Chen Show Mao who tried to overthrow LTK is an example. We are wary when PAP features someone with all these titles but yet apply double standards when the opposition does the same. Let's be fair here. 

As for GKY, he is quite a mentor to PM and partly why he is a valuable asset to the team as the DPM. I agree losing GKY isn't a big deal since he can be replaced with someone as capable. But losing a DPM is important as it signifies much to our enemies that the incumbent isn't able to even retain even its own DPM. So there is more at stake. 

Asking someone to go take a break because of their age is ageism which isn't fair.  

If Punggol is really so critical to retain LW would personally lead the GRC, no? Or at least assign LHL there, bao jiak!

It's all strategic. That's probably how he reads the ground that a DPM is sufficient to hold the fort.

Why not zero? GST universally punishes all - rich and poor. But the rich have more options to spend overseas, the poor are stuck here to consume and pay GST (or queue hours to go JB). 

Even pays GST when one is sick or dies.
