@Discoburg, 2 yrs ago we were also looking at this tower fan for my son in his bedroom. Went to BD and was convinced by the SE, gave up and bought this oscillating fan instead. 

2 yrs on, my son is happy with it. But cleaning the whole thing is quite troublesome, although I usually just clean the blades, which takes less than 10 min every week. Price also double of the tower fan I think.

Oh the reasons we didn't buy the tower fan was (given by SE), noisy,  weak wind flow.

Real life scenario.
Aircon not working in my clinic. Sweating while working.
Give me tower fan i also don't want. So bloody useless. 

I use an undertable fan if needed, before the central AC kicks in later in the morning.

Is it true that motor only consumes 2W power? At this setting, can feel the wind or not? Sounds too good to be true. Forgive me for being a skeptic about advertising gimmicks.

It's an electrical motor. You can't run away from physics.

How much consumption depends on how much air resistance, volume of air, that the motor has to push.

You can have a small usb fan that claims 0.1W, but who wants to use it ?

It’s powerful enough for my family and most importantly a very quiet fan , modular and light.

It is about the same height or maybe a little taller than a tower fan, made up of 3 individual fans, each can adjust 90 deg vertically up and down, and can also operate individually. Noise wise, it's only the blade or wind sound, motor noise quite minimum and acceptable to us. Wind is strong to our standard.

Downside is cleaning the whole thing is quite mafan, although cleaning the blades only is quite easy, and of course it cost a lot  more than the tower fan.

Limited by the side walls of the stand, and we have not adjusted a back to back setting before, but they can be adjusted individually, like the top fan can be facing the ceiling, while the middle fan blowing straight and the lowest fan facing the floor, all at the same time. 

You can also adjust the top fan 45 deg down, bottom fan 45deg up and middle fan straight, so the wind meet in the middle, or open up the top and bottom for wider wind flow. 

My son leave it on the floor, use the top fan when he sleeps and the middle one when he study at his table, bottom one hardly use.

Just asked my son, cannot arrange back to back, max is face ceiling and face floor, and anywhere in between.

all those tower, box, or dyson rubbish only good to look at... for sure will not flow more air than the regular fan. if dyson is so efficient we would have dyson ceiling fans instead of the bladed ones that are seen everywhere.

When you change out the ball bearings, did you have to grease it ?

or the new one already comes packed with grease ?

I learned from some SKF video about the different types of bearings, but didn't seem to catch one about greasing.

Then I saw another one, where this guy removed all the grease from the ball bearings and it screeched like hell. 

So my guess is ball bearings need to be greased, in appropriate. Too little is no good, too much is no good also, got different problems.

Then I guess I should also maintained all my fans bearings, with the appropriate greasing maintenance.

I'm also thinking maybe my previous cheapo fans squeaked and jammed is due to lack of lubrication at the sleeve bearings. Perhaps a proper cleaning and greasing would have brought them back to life, instead of dumping them.

ball bearings like wheel bearings should not be greased. it is sealed with the metal dust shields. you only try to oil it when it makes a noise to prolong the life a little. when such bearings are noisy, change it out adding oil can only do so much.

most of the fans use sleeve bearings, cheap and thus will wear. these need to be cleaned and oiled after some time to prolong their life. you can also change them out when needed.

to properly maintain, you need to clean the dust out and oil both front and rear bearings. the front ones are easy to get to. but the rear just new another 3-5mins to dismantle the rear casing to access.  i use a needle dropper to oil it just enough. a spray is typically messy and gets the oil everywhere and more dust will stick.

Before anyone buys a fan, you should watch this and consider, why buying a fan with ball-bearing is superior, although more expensive. KDK, Panasonic, Mitsubishi are known to use ball-bearings on their fans.

This video is about converting a regular sleeve-bearing or bushing to a ball-bearing fan motor. In another video, he shows why a sleeve-bearing fan stopped moving. It's due to a loss of lubricant (oil) and the grease becomes like dried cake, and no longer lubricating the motor, and thus it stopped moving. Ball-bearing motor last a lot longer and has much less friction, saving electricity, as the video shows at the end.

I have a couple of tower fans.  Usually not adequate unless close by.
Try to get those which has removable back panels for easy cleaning.

Aiyah below 1k can use till end of warranty period is very good returns already. 

I bought a couple of Samsung Frame TV cos I like the looks. But the price really bad! I hope the Chinese brands can come up with similar designs for 1/5 the price soon!
