But eventually the convenience of owning one comes too often in family conversations so decided to own one. After debate between hybrids and EV, we eventually settled on the MGS5 EV. Availability of charging points in the condo I stay in helps We test driven Emas 7, Atto 3, Honda Cross and consider Aion V, Seres, Zeekr, Lexus LBX. Eventually settle on MGS5. i guess considering the price, drive and features the MGS5 is our choice. And yes, roll eyes on heated and not ventilated seats/steering. But I wonder whether that will come useful when the rest of passengers wanted super cold aircon. Heated seat.. common for Euro spec car. Like my car also heated seat only.

Car definitely brings a lot of convenience especially if different family members need to go different places to get things done. can elaborate on MG5 vs Atto 3 vs Aion V? Since all china and roughly same price point +- few k. MGS5 is Euro spec, RWD. Handling is a lot better and more fun than tbe 2 China spec FWD drive with soft suspension. My brother will be collecting his one soon.

steveting99 3rd Gear June 18, 2025 Author Share June 18, 2025 (edited) There's a new battery safety standard issued by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). It becomes mandatory for all vehicle manufacturers by 1-Jul-2026 and is called “Safety Requirements for Power Batteries of Electric Vehicles” or referred to as GB 38031-2025. The updated regulation mandates that batteries must not catch fire or explode, even during thermal runaway events; i.e. a battery short circuit event when the car is involved in a high speed collision/impact/accident. Additionally, any smoke generated must not harm vehicle occupants. There is additional testing requirements specified in GB 38031-2025, this includes: Bottom impact testing to evaluate battery protection capabilities when the underside experiences a collision; and Fast-charging cycle safety testing requires batteries to withstand 300 fast-charging cycles without fire or explosion during subsequent short-circuit tests. SAIC (parent company of MG) would be required to comply with the new mandatory battery safety standard for all MG vehicles by 1-Jul-2026. Since SAIC gets their batteries from CATL (believe to be Shenxing LFP battery version 1 type) on the MGS5 EV, its a question of when compliance to GB 38031-2025 is achieved, if not already. Car News China article is here: https://carnewschina.com/2025/04/17/china-bans-ev-battery-fires-and-explosions-with-groundbreaking-safety-standard-starting-july-2026/ I've messaged Eurokars and asked if the MGS5 EV high voltage batteries comply with GB38031-2025. Awaiting their response. Edited June 18, 2025 by steveting99 typo
FromA2B2C 1st Gear June 19, 2025 Share June 19, 2025 (edited) Been driving the MGS5 for a few days. Still working on the various “features”. One thing I can’t seem to get working on CarPlay is to have Siri read out WhatsApp messages. It does have an announcement but options available did not have Play/Read it. It has a Reply option and I could reply it. I could send out WhatsApp messages using Siri too. Hope to have some feedback from MGS5 owners here are able to have it read WhatsApp messages. Lol…kind of frustrating to be able send out messages but cannot have the reply read out😁 Thanks P.S. Face recognition is not enabled for WhatsApp, as some other sites allude this to be the cause Edited June 19, 2025 by FromA2B2C
steveting99 3rd Gear June 20, 2025 Author Share June 20, 2025 Looks like Eurokars Group is short changing owners of MG here in Singapore (as well where ever Eurokars has an AD in ASEAN) by giving a short 5-year manufacturer's warranty on new rides. MG sells RHD vehicles around the world. In Australia and New Zealand, MG offers a longer 10-year or 250,000 kms manufacturer's warranty on all MG new rides. MG Australian 10-year warranty website is here: https://mgmotor.com.au/pages/warranty. If you want to be a grab driver, MG Australia is willing to still give a 7-year or 160,000 kms manufacturer's warranty. Even in the UK (where MG originated) has a longer manufacturer's warranty period of 7-years. Link is here: https://www.mg.co.uk/warranty
