steveting99 3rd Gear March 11 Author Share March 11 (edited) There's a newer 2026 version of the MG S5 EV that's assembled in Malaysia (EPMB’s Pegoh plant) according to Paul Tan Automotive article here: https://paultan.org/2026/03/10/ckd-mg-s5-ev-rolls-off-epmb-melaka-plant-updated-ver-extra-35-hp-100-nm-open-for-booking-rm120k-est/. New features of the 2026 MG S5 EV model includes: (1) Increased motor output to 151kW (+22kW from 2025 model. Not that it would matter here in Singapore as the Cat A version is limited to 110kW. Hopefully EuroKars will increase the power output to 110kW from the current 99kW) (2) Increased torque output to 350Nm (+100Nm from the 2025 model) (3) Increased range to 446km (+21km from the 2025 model - apparently related to improvements in the electric motor efficiency?) (4) Both front seats now have power adjustments (front passenger was manual in the 2025 model) (5) Cheaper to produce the CKD version in Malaysia than exporting from China. SAIC is planning to export to other ASEAN countries around the region and most likely will come to Singapore. Expecting OMV for the MG S5 EV to drop. This will be good for future MG customers as there's going to be lower duties and taxes to be paid. Expecting the MG S6 and M4 EVs to be eventually produced in Malaysia with exports to ASEAN countries. Over the causeway, SAIC's MG brand is doing well. It's now #5 in the best selling EV brand for the first two months of the year - see table below. On individual EV models in MG's stable that's doing well, these include the MG4 and MG S5 EV. See table below. Surprised SAIC MG is out selling Tesla. The revised tax structure for fully imported EVs in Malaysia came into effect on 1-Jan-2026. So those manufacturers who are fully importing rides into Malaysia are being hit with higher duties - resulting to more expensive rides. Thinking of it quite seriously. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37E7rWIQXZI But the above video does not give confidence, although for the MS S5. Thank you for any feedback. Sorry for the double post. Wouldn't worry too much about the review video from CarSauce - they're trying to catch eyeballs for entertainment on their YT channel. Can go for test drive and check the driver's seat and the driver's attention monitoring system nags are issues as shown in CarSauce video. The same with the driver's and infotainment displays. My main concern is the 12V auxiliary battery issues reported by owners over in UK forum here: https://www.mgevs.com/threads/parasitic-drain-on-12v-battery.23989/ MG with their pearls of wisdom during the design phase, decided to go with ordinary 12V lead-acid battery in powering auxiliary circuits (such as telematics, opening the boot, doors, windows, etc.) and rely on the high voltage battery pack to charge this lead-acid battery. The electronic switch of which needs power from the 12V lead-acid battery! 🤯 Believe the MG S6 EV has this same flawed design philosophy on the 12V auxiliary battery. Until SAIC decides to change their design philosophy, be prepared to replace the 12V lead acid battery on a regular basis (believe the warranty is valid for 12 months on the 12V auxiliary battery) and carry a jump starter kit in case the 12V lead acid battery dies all of a sudden. Would check with EuroKars if the MG S6 EV high voltage battery pack complies with GB 38031-2025 "Safety Requirements for Power Batteries of Electric Vehicles" and provide a copy of the test certificate from a recognized accredited testing authority such as China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC). Apart from the above, the MG S6 EV looks to be a decent ride. The triple digit money jiāngshī (吸血鬼) 🧛♀️margin that EuroKars is earning is something that needs to be negotiated with based on the agreed price and CoE value. Go test drive mah. You like means you like. Dont worry too much about the 12v battery lah. Just change it every 2 or 4 yrs. At least its cheaper than changing a LFP 12v. And carry a shoppee jump starter kit, at least wont get stuck. Edited March 17 by Ake109
steveting99 3rd Gear April 7 Author Share April 7 (edited) This is a follow up post on the 2026 version of the MG4. Now called MG4 EV in mainland China and MG4 Urban in the UK as well as down under in the land of Oz. It's suppose to be cheaper than the outgoing model, so will see what the OMV is going to be. It's bigger and larger then the outgoing MG4 in all dimensions. Length: 4,395mm (+108mm longer than the out going version) Width: 1,842mm (+6mm wider than the out going version) Height: 1,549mm (+45mm taller than the out going version) Wheelbase: 2,750mm (+45mm more than the out going version) The new MG4 EV is now Front Wheel Drive (FWD), which is a major departure from the RWD of the out going version. The driving dynamics will be very different. Another change is the rear suspension. The new MG4 EV uses the cheaper torsion beam setup compared to the multi-link rear independent suspension on the out going model. Again this will affect driving dynamics. So it's going to be a city car rather than suite a driving enthusiast. The new MG4 EV sits on the E3 front-wheel drive architecture, developed to priorities packaging efficiency, cost control and urban practicality. Both the front and rear facias are different from the older MG 4. Supposed to be inspired by the Cyberster design. Inside the new MG4 EV it's all different from out going version. There's some similarity in the interior design to the S5/S6 in terms of cabin layout. Up front MG has placed the gear selector on the steering column to create space for more storage in the center of the car. Gone is the rotary gear selector switch at the center console. There's now a 7" driver's display - same size as the outgoing model. The center console goes all the up to the dashboard with a pair of cup holders. There's physical, tactile controls for key functions like climate control and audio volume on the dashboard. There's also physical control of fan speed and adjustments of A/C vents. Rear seats now get two sets of air vents - better than the zero on the older model. Unfortunately its got a single zone climate control - so one less than the outgoing model. Augmenting the large 12.8" (+2.55" bigger than the outgoing model) center touchscreen that sits proudly atop the dash like an iPad. Screen looks to be better and the camera resolution looks okay. On the older and previous model, the 10.25" screen has a noticeable lag. Not sure if a new and faster processor has resolved the response time of the graphics to make it more snappier. Will have to see what reviewers say about it. There's a hidden storage space in the boot - 98L. With an additional +45mm longer wheelbase, as well as all around increase in size - the rear seat passengers in the new MG4 EV looks to be getting good leg room. Still no flip down arm rest for the rear passengers. Comes with seven air bags. Crash test rests from Euro NCAP or ANCAP haven't been released yet, but once the test results are available, will post. Some selected specs for two versions of the MG4 EV - Battery capacity: 43kWhr (54 kWhr for the larger battery and 10kWhr smaller than the outgoing model); Claimed WLTP range: 316km (405km for the larger battery - about 45km less range than the outgoing model); Kerb weight: 1,460kg (1,520kg for the larger battery and amazingly - 165kg lighter than the outgoing model!👍); Claimed 0 to 100 km/hr: 9.0 seconds (8.7 seconds for the larger battery) - about 0.5 seconds slower than the outgoing model; Maximum motor power output: 110kW (118kW with the larger battery); and Claimed energy consumption (kWhr per 100km): 16.5kWhr/100km (16.1kWhr/100km for the larger battery and amazingly -0.8kWhr/100km more efficient than the outgoing model). steveting99 3rd Gear April 8 Author Share April 8 Interestingly in other RHD markets such as Thailand, UK and Oz - SAIC/MG decided to keep both versions available. So there's two MG4s to choose from. (1) The new MG4 Urban for a lower cost city ride; and (2) The 2nd generation MG4 EV with a rear wheel drive and with a sportier feel. See pics below. Dimensions remain the same as the older 2022 model. From the exterior, it would be hard to tell any difference. Same front facia. The back facia also looks the same. No change to the side profile. The inside of which has been totally re-designed to have a more modern look. If it looks similar to the S5/S6 - you wouldn't be wrong there. Gone is the angular dashboard and jutting center console of older model. Now comes with a bridge-like center console with rearranged twin cupholders, a single 15W Qi wireless charger - but retains the rotary gear selector like the 1st generation model. The steering wheel is now three spokes in the square-circle shape. The previous 1st generation had two spoke steering wheel in the same square-circle shape. The driver's display looks to be the same as before at 7". The infotainment display has also grown in size from 10.25" to 12.8" (+2.55" bigger than the older 2022 model). Just below the infotainment screen, there's physical controls for air-con temperature, fan speed and even manual air flow direction of the air vents. No more digging through the menus, to do simple tasks.😁 Rear seats looks to have a flip down arm rest - better than nothing compared to the MG4 Urban. Rear passengers now get a pair of air vents! Much better than the 1st generation, in which there was none. Boot space is the same as before, about 398L. Not sure why Eurokars would remove the option of having both units available in Singapore. Maybe they think the newer MG4 Urban will sell better compared the 2nd generation MG4 EV?

The 1st generation of the MG4 EV came out in mid-2022. So it's about 4 years old and way past due for an update. In the competitive market of mainland China, the update cycle is at an astonishing fast pace and short duration. Generally less than two years and some vehicle manufacturers can do an update in around 12 months! This is where legacy vehicle manufacturers really struggle to keep up, as the general public's perception of them are like slow dinosaurs and do not offer features that are modern / in vogue. Extinction of dinosaurs are a high probability event.

In the rolling 12 months period (from Mar-2025 to Feb-2026), Eurokars sold 224 units of the previous generation of MG4 EVs, so there's obviously some demand there. Recall there was some promotion going on to increase sales, but the reduced price was the main driver. A pity that Eurokars is going to drop the refreshed 2026 MG4 EV here in Singapore. If one is still interested in the MG4 EV, would need to go over the causeway to get it from now on. ↡ Advertisement
