LTA has released their numbers on cost of cars for May 2025 which includes data on MGS5 EV Luxury trim from Eurokars EV.

Open Market Value (OMV) of MGS5 average value is $26.4k

Excise Duty (20% of OMV) works out to be $5.3k

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is 9% of OMV + excise duty, which works out to be $2.8k

Additional Registration Fee (ARF) is a tiered tax based on OMV with 100% on 1st $20k, 140% between $20k to $40k, 190% between $40k to $60k, 250% between $60k to $80k and finally 350% after $80k. For MGS5 the ARF comes out to $28.9k

Since MGS5 falls in A1 band of the Vehicle Emission Scheme (VES) there is a rebate of -$25k.👍

LTA also gives an EV Early Adoption Incentive (EEAI) rebate based on the VES and EEAI not exceeding the total value of ARF, or a maximum of -$15k or 45% of ARF - which ever is lower. The EEAI rebate on the MGS5 comes to -$3.9k. So the VES and EEAI totally offsets the ARF tax.🤑

OBU cost is $0.16k

Registration fee is $0.35k

1st year road tax (inclusive of $0.7k fuel surcharge on EV) is $1.5k

Sub-Total of costs including OMV, excise duty, GST, ARF, VES, EEAI and registration costs before Cat A CoE is $36.5k

Cat A CoE (as at 6-Jul-2025 and reported on SG Carmart) is $98.1k

Thus basis cost before Eurokars AD mark up is $36.5k + $98.1k = $134.6k

Current sales price as reported on SG Carmart on the MGS5 is $166.9k

Euorkars mark up is $36.5k or 122% of OMV value on the MGS5 . The AD margin is a bit high and there is room to negotiate the price down further with Eurokars EV.

So after a few weeks with the MGS5, must say it has been good and getting used to the EV charging portion.

Still a little disappointed on that the new car came with a “fault” on day one, that the air con is always blowing onto feet regardless of air distribution settings. A trip to the service centre confirm that it is a fault, but the faulty part needs to be order and appears to have a 2 month wait plus a few days in the workshop for the replacement. Not exactly good feeling for a brand new car but on the bright side, the workshop service is good.

@FromA2B2C

So was contacted by MG yesterday who updated that my issue might be resolved by a hard software init, which apparently was suggested by main HQ. So sent in morning, MG did it and happy to update that the issue is resolved!….

Couldn't find the thread for MG4 which is the hatchback version of the MGS5 sitting on the same SAIC’s Nebula EV platform - so decided to post in this thread instead. If moderators suggest a new thread be started for the MG4, let me and will start on accordingly.

The new 2025 MG4 is about to be released in China sometime in Q3 2025. MG's brand director teased the possibility of a semi-solid-state battery offering up to 800 km of range under CLTC testing, SAIC has not confirmed battery specifications or range figures yet.

MG4_2025_exterior_01.thumb.JPG.09fd1aaf18f673623c5eb3d8f6504df7.JPG

The new version is bigger than the current 2024 model with the following dimensions. New front design with new wheels.

Length: 4,395 mm (+108mm over current version)

Width: 1,842 mm

Height: 1,551 mm

Wheelbase: 2,750 mm (+45mm over current version)

It uses a rear-mounted 120 kW permanent magnet motor and a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by Rept Battery Energy. Top speed is rated at 160 km/h.

MG4_2025_exterior_03.JPG.5515251129def9179b555fbd3d587d04.JPG

The rear has changed to arrow-style taillights, and a full-width rear light bar. Bringing the MG4 to a modern design.

New "Donglai Purple" finish. The other option is Qingbo Green. Will continue be rear wheel drive with 120kW motor.

Front MG logo is now illuminated.

New simplified interior that is gear towards the local Chinese market. The lack of physical buttons will make it a harder sell in overseas markets.

The 2025 MG4 will integrate Oppo’s in-car ecosystem via the MG×Oppo cockpit system, a co-developed platform that integrates smartphone-based functions with the in-car interface. MG states that the system supports voice-activated commands, phone-app synchronization, gesture-based navigation handover, and other connected services aimed at streamlining daily driving tasks.

Sales of the current MG4 have been low in China, just 13 units were sold in February 2025, but the vehicle has performed strongly overseas. In the first quarter of 2025, MG Motor Europe registered 78,505 new vehicles, representing a 33.5% year-over-year increase. The MG4 EV was a key contributor to this growth. In the UK alone, MG registered 24,641 vehicles in Q1 2025, a 6.5% increase from the previous year, with the MG4 accumulating over 40,000 units sold since its launch.

Hopefully the new MG4 will arrive in the shores of Singapore soon. Competitors to the MG4 are BYD Dolphin, Donfeng Box and Volkswagen ID3.

We did not test drive the Aion. We all are new to EV and thus the idea of fridge/warmer elevate our battery concerns. Both daughters and wife do not like the looks too.

We test drive its neighbour, Emas 7 though which was in similar price range. Same dealer. Emas 7 has almost everything in its favour. Driving is smooth and energetic, electrical seats, abundant features and good interior space. The only thing going against it, at least to me, is reservations on continue dealer support. Also Android Auto is still not supported. Not important to me as I use Apple.

Atto 3 drive was ok. The interior was a bit tacky for us. Seat comfort was pretty good. The ladies all like it but I am hesitant. With all the marketing, multiple dealers and sales volume somehow make me hesitant on after sales care

MG S5 drive feels better controlled than the rest. I can “feel” the road, acceleration is smooth and control. Features wise is comparable. Basically it is like fitting the basic good needs without too much fanfare.

In the end, it was an over lunch discussion between Emas, Atto and MG. The ladies eventually agreed on my hesitancy on dealer support though all pointed out we could just go over the causeway for local attention. One daughter select Atto 3 because of better back seat, more attractive screen apps and popularity. The other daughter, who drives, goes for MG for more comfortable driver seat, better screen, driver visibility and drive and Android Auto. So need me to break the tie. Haha, MG is it and the Atto daughter gets to decide on the color.

Hi, checking if you considered / test drove the MG4 EV?

Also, was wondering why MG4 is listed as slightly more expensive.

Thanks

Hi. We did not consider the MG4. When we sat in it, we felt it’s a bit cramped thus we just focus on the S5

MG4 slightly more ex, maybe because of slightly higher battery and better feature like auto-dim rear mirror, dual zone AC, sound system etc

was beside this MGS5 at the traffic light some days back. whenever a motorbike squeeze past, the hazard lights of the MGS5 will blink for a few sec.

quite an irritating feature, if I am the driver and to have the indicator flashing periodically on the dash. can this be turned off?

I will leave as it is similar to blind spot monitoring.

It is a safety device.

Ya, I read that hazard lights blink on some forums

lol…I can’t see what’s happening at the rear but I don’t think it is indicated on the dash as so far there is no distraction. Will watch out for that

Neutral Newbie

Hi all,
Would like to check with drivers of S5 if you find that the car does not keep out heat and reduce sunglare very well? This is observed in comparison to my previous car. I called Rikecool and was told that the car is already installed with the highest grade of platinum series. Im contemplating changing my windscreen film to vkool but would like to get some feedback from drivers here. Thank you.

Maybe you can turn off Front Collision Assist?

I read from UK forum that the  Front Collision Assist will come on before you apply brakes. It automatically brakes for you if u dont step on brakes as it detects vehicle in front but dont think i will want to test this feature. 😁

I feel generally it kept out heat pretty ok. I do feel sunglare from the windscreen is weak but I think it is because it does not have a row of darker shade at the top area of the windscreen like some cars has.

Looks like the new and bigger MG4 sales has started off well in Mainland China according to Car New China article here: https://carnewschina.com/2025/09/12/mg4-compact-ev-secures-26000-orders-as-company-adds-three-shift-production-to-meet-demand/

The more interesting news is the new and bigger MG4 is now confirmed in RHD version and heading down under as a new model in 2026. It wont replace the existing MG4 and will be priced lower according to this article from Car Expert Australia: https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/mg-to-expand-its-small-ev-lineup-in-australia-with-a-second-mg-4 . Will be called the MG4 Urban that comes in FWD version.

Think this will confuse future owners as the existing MG4 with RWD or AWD will also be refreshed for 2026 model year.

See if Eurokars will bring the new and bigger MG4 into Singapore in 2026.

Bobby Ang's review of the MG S5 EV on it's ride and handling.

Better than Proton's e.Mas7 or Leapmotor C10. The big disappointment seems to be the front passenger seat - it's manual.

Went to see look this MGS5, surprisingly the handling and drive is the best among the other EVs i test drive. Sealion 7 also RWD, but the handling seems like not as good as this S5.

MGS5 is Euro spec, RWD. Handling is a lot better and more fun than tbe 2 China spec FWD drive with soft suspension.

My brother will be collecting his one soon.

Any feedback from your brother on this MGS5?

I always hear people say MG brand is British junk, reliability no good. Even though now china has bought over MG liao.
