There is nothing wrong with keeping those gifts as long as the rules are followed.

He did not follow those rules.

Even MNC has strict rules on Gift and Entertainment.

You can take home as long as it is below $80 (i rem) and non-regular.

If not, you have to pay the value of Ferrero Rocher, mooncake or bak kwa to the govt.
