Cannot. F1 is their money tree. They cannot give up that revenue.

Yes but 1 person can trigger it to run. Such a waste of energy.  Good to get everyone to use their legs a bit more. We have by far the highest escalators per capita in the world. 5x against next nearest competitor.

Think i can live with less escalator but not without aircon.  

I share your view on F1.

If u have good knees, climbing stairs is good. But if u have bad knees, climbing stairs is bad.

Think u don't take MRT often. Some of the new MRT stations/line now is super deep. Especially downtown line.

I do trains once in a while and will take stairs at stations, if alone.  My earlier post refers to malls and buildings. I think train escalators see much higher utilisation.

We have the highest number of escalater per capita and also very high levels of knee‑related problems in our population, I wonder why. We are likely the most urban country.

Market seems to think war will end soon. So bo tai ji one.

It won't ever happen for malls. As the whole point is to reduce friction in terms of customer experience. 
If a mall operator ever does it, the non ground floor tenants will simply vote by not renewing their lease. You are already at a significant disadvantage compared to ground floor tenants.

All buildings have fire escape plans now. So u cannot have open staircases like in the older malls.

I went to a few of our National Libraries (not the ones in Shopping Malls).  The libraries get so cold that i have to pack and leave after 2 hours or so.  And people are wearing sweaters and jackets there.  During this uncertain times, maybe they could start to look at adjusting the temperature 1 to 2 degree Celsius higher?

oh yes, instead of turning on our home aircon, let us walk to the libraries and enjoy the centralised aircon together!
