Recommendation for car battery

Imo, you should just stick with Global.

AC Delco is so-so only..again just my opinion.

CCA is debatable. It's not always the higher the better.

Generally for a long lasting battery, CCA must be more than enough to turn over an engine, so the battery is not stressed.

But at the same time to achieve this, the plates must not be too tightly packed into a small space, that it doesn't have much breathing room.

CCA can be achieved by making the plates bigger, but usually it means making it thinner and more fragile.

Some manufacturers can achieve high cca and long lasting battery.

Some can't. They started with high cca and get a shorted cell later on.

Shorted cell is caused by too much debris dropping off the plate and making a bridge at the bottom and short out one cell.

I won't name names, but some brand are prone to shorted cells. [:)]

OK Tks. Yr info very good.

I guess I just stick wh the Global then. It lasts >2 yrs good enough for me.

Y u nvr consider Amaron arh?

I used a 65amh Amaron Silver technology batt for my Corona last time. I found it good.

Unfortunately the same amh Amaron is too tall to fit my Optra so I got the Global.

Global was just slightly cheaper than the Amaron.

Some people "mod" the 2 hooks to make it longer by bending the ends straighter instead of L-shape, then Amaron can fit.

Aveo, Optra and Epica have this problem of short hooks.

The hooks r not a problem cos the battery shop has the longer hooks to exchange.

The problem is the top of the battery touch the bonnet.

I got my battery from Eng Wah n Vincent advise not to take the Amaron cos he chk its too high.

Yeah, if it touch the bonnet, it could possibly short the battery.

Hi since this thread is still going, can i check does a bigger amp battery is better for the car? eg: if the car have gadgets like DVR, alarm, I.C.E etc.. given that for example stock batt at 45A and alternator is 75A. does upgrading above 45A recommended? Like 55A battery or even 60A battery. By upgrading what is the advantage? Aircon more power? Anyone can advise?

Battery is primarily used for starting engine. Once the engine is started, the alternator takes over and provide all the electrical needs and also charge the battery at the same time.

If your gadgets runs after the engine is shut down like alarm and DVR, then they start to consume battery power.

The battery discharging is also causing sulphation which is bad for the battery. Normally, sulphation is reversed during charging when the alternator is started.

Battery will normally charged back up to its full capacity, depending on what is taken from it.

So a 45AH or 60AH battery will take about the same time to charge back with the same alternator.

By upsizing from 45AH to 60AH, you merely increased the storage power of the battery. This is good in the case where you leave gadgets on throughout the night which drained battery. A 60AH battery is more likely to have enough energy to start the engine the next morning, than a 45AH battery when they are both drained the same amount.

Otherwise, when both batteries are fully-charged and functioning, there is not much difference.

Aircon will NOT have more power, it depends on the engine running the compressor.

Headlights will NOT be brighter. Bulbs depends on voltage and thus the current drawn.

Your engine will NOT be more powerful. This depends on fuel/air injected.

In short, it's not a miracle cure or what snake oil products like to promise the above.

Amaron 60Ah $140

Bosch S4 70Ah $155

Which is better?

If possible , take the Bosch S5. Price might be abit high but its really a solid battery and worth the $.
