  1. SgCarMart is now doing video reviews! For our first test, James - knowing less than he should about the car - gets his hands on the Mercedes-Benz CLA200 and drags our editor Julian out of the office to get his professional opinion! The two go through what the car is all about, and talk about its handsome design, and best of all, to show us just how much the boot space has grown against the old car, we actually squeeze James right into the boot! For those curious as to if the slopping roofline will provide enough space for your kids, we squeeze three adults into the rear, and here is where the CLA starts to stumble. Julian proceeds to test the Mercedes-Benz User Experience, and let's just say that our editing soon involved a liberal use of the censor. You're going to have to watch the video yourself to find out how well it works! So given these faults, is the CLA200 still a good buy? Does the drive and the overall package, coupled with the three-pointed star make the car a worthy purchase? More importantly, what causes Julian to loose his cool first? Watch the video to find out! Don't forget to leave a like and hit that subscribe button, and leave a comment too, we would love to hear from you!
  2. Following the A-Class, the CLA is next to go under the knife of Mercedes-Benz AMG performance division - to be honed as a thoroughbred tarmac burner. Having recently arrived on our shores, this could just be the perfect blend of style and performance. There should be no qualms about the CLA's ability to turn heads - more so this AMG version. Having been spruced up quite a bit, it now has the right muscles at the right spots, and is not shy to flaunt its potent performance underneath the hood. Of course, AMG's works are more than skin deep. The CLA 45 sports a slew of technical trickeries - such as AMG-tuned 4MATIC all-wheel drive, twin-scroll turbocharger, AMG sports exhaust system with automatic exhaust flap control etc. All these helps to put the 360bhp and 450Nm of torque firmly onto the tarmac, in the usual AMG way with a characterful howl that should easily leave bystanders in awe. To ensure the CLA gets the right dose of AMG DNA, its 2.0-litre engine is built the same way as its bigger brothers - according to the traditional 'one man, one engine' philosophy. A seven speed twin-clutch DCT sports transmission helps despatch power to all four wheels, and achieve a century sprint timing of 4.6 seconds. Likewise, the cabin of the CLA 45 AMG is no less dramatic than its sheet metal. While we haven't got the chance to get up close with this street racer, we thought we might as well enjoy these lovely photos from the manufacturer.
  3. The Mercedes CLA 45 AMG was shown in digital format last month when the PlayStation 4-exclusive game Driveclub was announced. Now, we get to see the real thing as Mercedes has released the official images of the high-performance variant of the CLA. Like its close cousin, the A 45 AMG, the CLA 45 AMG is propelled by the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder which generates 360bhp with 450Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Both cars also share the same set of 18-inch alloy rims and twin-blade radiator grille design. Powered by the most powerful production series four-cylinder engine in the world, the CLA 45 AMG claims to reach 0 to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds. The AWD four-door coupe will make its world premiere at next week's New York Auto Show.
  4. [extract] The term four door coupe has been recently used to describe luxury sedans with a coupe-like dimension. Typically, they have a low roof design which reduces towards the rear part of the car. Some examples are the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, Audi A7 and the Volkswagen CC. These models are normally seen as high-end range cars but a small Russian company has unveiled a model touted as the world
  5. Mercedes-Benz has released a slew of photos for its highly-anticipated entry level four-door coupe, the CLA. The car will make its official debut during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin. The CLA is previewed by the Concept Style Coupe and measures 4.63m long, 2m wide and 1.44m tall. Mercedes-Benz has managed to achieve a super-slippery drag coefficient of just 0.23. The 'baby CLS' is underpinned by Mercedes-Benz's MFA platform, which the A-Class is built upon. This means that the CLA will have MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link independent rear suspension. In the US, the CLA250 with a 208bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine will be offered. However, in other parts of the world, the CLA should be offered with the 1.6-litre turbocharged lump borrowed from the A-Class. All these engines are mated to Mercedes-Benz's 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission. The range-topping CLA45 AMG will be unveiled at a later date. The CLA has large air vents on its front bumper which helps in projecting a sporty image. However, the rear bumper appears oversized from certain angles. The taillight combination has two LED loops which is a nice touch. The interior is typical Mercedes fanfare with the brand
  6. Hyundai has unveiled the HCD-14 Genesis concept at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. The four-door coupe concept is a preview of the next generation Genesis and carries design elements for future Hyundai products. The concept is powered by the Korean carmaker's 5.0-litre direct-injected 'Tau' V8 with dual continuously variable valve timing. The engine is linked an 8-speed automatic transmission which delivers power to the rear wheels. "We instilled HCD-14 Genesis with a premium-sport four-door coupe road presence", said Christopher Chapman, Hyundai's Chief Designer in America. "Its sleek and lightweight silhouette does not punish the wind but used fluidic precision with dramatic surfacing that conveys natural restraint." The front end is dominated by a large grille with 4 horizontal metal bars, which can appear overbearing. The concept has a tapered boot like the Audi A7. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the HCD-14 is its rear-hinged rear doors, or commonly known as "suicide doors". Like most four-door coupes in the market, the HCD-14 strictly sits four.
  7. After the Passat CC, VW is reportedly to be preparing the Golf CC for a 2015 launch. Like the Passat CC, the Golf CC will adopt a 'four-door coupe' styling. The newcomer is designed to take on the forthcoming Mercedes CLA. The Golf CC will be built upon the MQB platform that underpins the Golf. It will get a marginally longer version that will also underpin the Golf Estate and the upcoming Audi A3 saloon. The Golf CC will be fitted with a wide-opening hatchback tailgate to help improve access, similar to the Audi A5 Sportback. The boot capacity will be larger than the Golf but smaller than the current Jetta's. At launch, engine options will include a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol with 120bhp and a 2.0-litre TDI with 150bhp. A hot GTI version will follow to challenge the CLA 45 AMG at a later date. The soon-to-be launched Audi A3 saloon, which is also under the VW stable, is often seen as a direct rival to the CLA. A multi-cornered fight is brewing slowly
  8. [extract] If you think that the current Kia Forte has taken a lot of sales away from the Corolla, the next Forte might do more harm to the Corolla
  9. [extract] When I first laid my eyes on the new Fisker Atlantic design prototype, it simply took my breath away. I personally feel, that this is the most promosing four door coupe to date among all in the same category, including the likes of Audi and Mercedes Benz. The Atlantic is presented at a special event before its world premiere at the New York Auto Show on 4 April 12. The Atlantic will be Fisker
