  1. http://dai.ly/x1lk89q Land Rover has shed lights on its revolutionary design of its new Discovery SUV through a short video teaser. The marque has also said that the Discovery Vision Concept will hint at the design for its Discovery models. It will also showcase a pioneering technology from the Jaguar Land Rover group on the concept car, which will make its first public appearance at the upcoming New York Auto Show. Although information is scarce at the moment, we foresee a large amount of tech gizmos to be present, such as infotainment display with touchscreen capability, electric folding chairs, etc. And hopefully, we won't have to wait too long.
  2. Acura, the luxury division under the Japanese automaker Honda, has released an image of a new concept vehicle prior to the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. From the image released, the concept vehicle is seemingly a crossover. Acura had mentioned that the concept will debut for the first time in the world at the automotive exhibition that will take place later this month in Shanghai, China. Unfortunately, apart from that and the image, the automaker has yet to reveal any other details, such as engine specifications and interior features. The concept is likely to create a new market segment, considering Acura has recently launched the 2013 all new RDX and the 2014 MDX. Judging from the tyre sizes in proportion to the car's body in the image, it seems that this new concept vehicle from Acura will be a compact crossover. If so, it'll potentially compete against the BMW X1, the Audi Q3, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, and the Lincoln MKC, the latter two of which are going into production soon. It seems that Acura won't be the only one previewing a new concept vehicle as Honda will also do the same thing. The model that Honda will likely preview is a redesign of the Honda Odyssey. Yes, although the North American version (redesigned) of the model had just recently been revealed in the 2013 New York Auto Show, Honda has actually been selling the global version since 2008. Therefore, it seems wise for the model to see a redesign of its global version soon.
  3. [extract] When I first laid my eyes on the new Fisker Atlantic design prototype, it simply took my breath away. I personally feel, that this is the most promosing four door coupe to date among all in the same category, including the likes of Audi and Mercedes Benz. The Atlantic is presented at a special event before its world premiere at the New York Auto Show on 4 April 12. The Atlantic will be Fisker

Babes of 2012 New York Auto Show

The last day of the 2012 New York International Auto Show is on the 15th April, and any motor show isn't complete without its beauties. So unless you have time and nearly $13,000 to spend for a 18hr non stop business class flight to New York, the other alternative is to enjoy the gallery below. The blond Audi model, posing beside the R8GT and RS5 has caught my eye, who's yours?

    Turbo Sonata unleashed!

After months of waiting and speculation, the 2.0L turbocharged Sonata with Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) technology has been unveiled at the New York Auto show. The first time we saw a turbocharged direct injection engine in a car from the Hyundai corporate family was the 2008 Kia Koup concept that produced 290 horsepower. This same engine now powers the Sonata to the tune of 274 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. Now, this should spell some seriously good performance figures given that it produces even more horsepower than a Golf R. Of course, we do not expect it to out sprint a Golf R, given the Sonata's sheer size. Like the turbo GDI engines from Ford and the Volkswagen Group, this new turbo Theta II engine has a broad, flat torque curve with the peak being sustained between 1,800 and 4,500 rpm. Hyundai is using a twin-scroll turbocharger like the one used by BMW in its latest engines, which is said to minimizes turbocharger lag while maximizing combustion efficiency and power output. Hyundai is estimating fuel consumption figures of 22 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, which is just marginally less than the non-turbo models on the highway and significantly better than any of the V6 powered competitors. The top of the range 2.0T model shall be equipped with panoramic roof, 18 inch hyper silver alloy wheels, dual exhaust system and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Live photos of 2011 Kia Optima

This is a follow up post to my earlier post on the 2011 Kia Optima (Magentis). These photos are live images taken from the New York Auto Show. As the saying goes, a picture speaks a thousand words and the world can finally see the all new Optima in its full glory. These live images confirm my initial impression that the new optima scores better in the looks department as compared to its cousin, the Hyundai Sonata. The alloy wheel design resembles those from a certain European make. The bumper is joined to the car body at a 45 degree (around there I suppose) angle and I like that treatment as it gives the car a coupe-like touch. The display car at the new york auto show seems to be fitted with red coloured brake caliper. I am doubtful that it will be a standard feature throughout the new Optima range, perhaps only reserved for top end high performance variant. Under the hood, we find three all-new and fuel-efficient Theta II powerplants: a 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder, a 2.0-liter GDI turbo engine or a 2.4-liter hybrid. The 2.4-liter GDI engine delivers 200 hp while the 2.0-liter turbo GDI engine delivers an impressive 274 hp. The 2.4-liter hybrid engine will be introduced in 2011. Will the new Optima enjoy the success of its smaller sibling, the Cerato Forte, in Singapore ? I believe it can, given the smart marketing strategy by C&C.

    5-door Kia Cerato Forte released

Also making its world premiere at New York Auto Show today is a hatchback variant of Kia's hugely popular Cerato Forte. The five door model joins the current four-door saloon and two-door (Koup) coupe versions of the Forte. Stylistically, the hatchback conversion of the Forte is far less adventurous than you would expect from a company that has churned out some interesting designs lately including the Optima and Sportage. There are no photos of the interior yet, but Kia's release makes word of a revised center console, new paddle shifters for the automatic transmission and the addition of a push-button start. North American consumers will have a choice of the 2.0 and 2.4-liter engines while customers in other markets will be able to choose from the 1.6 and 2.0-liter powerplants. More interestingly, the Forte 5-door has been fitted with Hyundai Group's latest six speed automatic transmission. This means that we can expect to see the sedan version be fitted with the 6 speeder quite soon. If the Forte comes fitted with a new 1.6L Turbo powerplant in the future, the Japanese are in deep s--t! In Singapore, the Forte 5-door would make a good alternative to the Hyundai I30. For those who are upset that the Kia Ceed is not available locally, they can take heart that the 5-door Forte could make a local debut. Folks at Cycle & Carriage, please make it happen!
