  3. Yahoo news: Malaysia to charge foreigners more for buying houses in Johor-report KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Malaysia's southern state of Johor, which neighbours Singapore, will impose a higher processing fee on foreigners who buy houses, state news agency Bernama reported, as it looks to boost revenues and rein in speculative buying. Bernama quoted the state executive councillor for housing and local government, Abdul Latiff Bandi, as saying the state government will charge a fee of 4-5 percent of the property value. Proceeds will go towards welfare projects in Johor. This compares with the current flat fee of 10,000 ringgit ($3,100) per property. Singaporeans have been buying houses in Johor, especially in Iskandar, which is a 2,200 square km (850 square mile) zone three times the size of Singapore and is just across a narrow strip of water. The strong interest also stems from cheaper property prices and utility bills compared with Singapore. The move also comes ahead of potential new measures by the Malaysian government, such as raising the real property gains tax, in the upcoming budget on Oct. 25 to rein in rising housing prices. Property companies that have exposure to Johor include UEM Sunrise, Mah Sing Group, Tropicana Corp and Hong Kong-listed Country Garden Holdings . 4. Was there earlier, please was fairly packed. There's cafe's/rest. However place isn't what it's hype out to be. Many run of the mills brands & pricing are only slightly cheaper for most items in the given shop + lots of off season stuffs. Selection damn 'selected' + lots of brands have yet to open. Should you make your way there? Best wait 1-2 more wks when more shops/brands are open. There's dining & cafe- carparks machiam free (don't know for how long).

  8. Got an email from someone.. and would like to share with bros/sis..!Can't verify the validity of the story... but its worth shar ================ Just a short story to remind you guys to collect your receipt whenfilling petrol in malaysia. while queueing at the customs for our turn to stamp our passports to goback S'pore, 2 malay guys wearing esso polo tees, probably from thestation whr i filled my tank, approached us and told us that we did not pay for our petrol(pls note i've already handed our passports to the custom officer). Of cos we told him we paid but the malay guy asked mefor receipt which i cant produce since i don't normally ask from the counter.Hearing that, the officer, while holding the passports, refused to letus go unless we settle the payment. even after telling them so many times that we paid, they don't let us go, and asked 1 of us to follow hem back to check the cctv.of cos we didn't agree and told the officer to let all of us go back together to check, he said yes, but have to leave the passports with him as he claimed that he had already stampedone of our passports, Rubbish! cos we didn't see him stamp anything. In the end, my fren, who was rushing back to Singapore decided to just pay them 'again'and end the problem. the two guys looked happy as if the trip to lookfor us at the custom paid off. in the end, i paid them 62RM when i only pumped 56.50RM worth of synergy F1 petrol. After that, the 2 guys walkedto the officer's booth and shake hands w the officer and the senior, happily. in front of us man..... it appears that the staffs at the petrol stations will informed those people waiting at the customs ifthey noticed anyone leaving the station without the receipt. So bros and sis, pls rem to collect your receipt when paying foranything, yes anything there. Who knows what story they may have nexttime. Don't give these ppl a chance to earn bonus.
