  1. This informative video explains the real world challenges that electric vehicles are facing, which is not about the cost, battery technology and range.
  2. 😞 Quickly order folks...
  3. Anyone changed their stock plastic charge pipes to aftermarket aluminium ones? Any improvement in performance? Do you change because the stock one cracked, or to play safe due to preventive measures?
  4. Until a few years ago, i used to rent car for msia trip. Some car rentals (pte owner or those 'company' but operate from HDB flat one) will ask u to pay extra $20 per day, for 'extra insurance' if u declare want to go msia. I never really bothered to check, just pay and go. But got once i asked, but the guy said 'its done online' so cannot show me. Anyone can shed light on this? Am just curious whether its really true got extra insurance coverage, or the rental just wanna get extra money
  5. When there is a will, there is always a way. This sure rings very true for this particular HDB parking offender as shown in the video posted by SG Road Vigilante. Dated on the 3rd of June, the video is pretty much self-explanatory. While we don't know what prompted the Toyota Prius driver to do that, sharp eyed viewers would have noticed that all that madness was quite unnecessary as the gantry opened up towards the end of the 48 second video. As usual, the comments on the page weren't exactly constructive.. But this one was pretty funny. Watch what this guy does here! 102516826_186940102600538_4929118169282379776_n.mp4

  7. In support of this. Shopping trips my wife bring 2 recycled bag or wad we cal as zhao lor bag. Dont need plastic bags at all since everything just dump inside and then repack at hotel. For day to day folks will need to bring a small recycled bag everywhere with u. Support this and SG should consider implementing this in phases. Right now only certain places charge. IKEA? Forgot still got where Japan to introduce charges for single-use plastic bags at all retail stores by 2020. Japan is set to introduce charges for plastic bags at stores, making free plastic bags a thing of the past. Charging plastic bags is a “symbolic” effort Japan’s Environment Minister Yoshiaki Harada announced on Monday, June 3, 2019, at a press conference that the country will be prohibiting retailers, including supermarkets and convenience stores, from giving out plastic bags for free, The Japan Times reported. The price of a plastic bag is to be determined by the retailers, however, the ministry expects them to charge around 10 yen (S$0.13) for a bag. Retailers are also requested to use the money for environmental purposes, such as afforestation and spreading awareness of marine pollution. While the proportion of plastic bags among plastic waste is “not big” according to Harada, charging a fee for it is symbolic of Japan’s efforts to reduce plastic waste. The law is set to kick in by the end of 2020. The push comes ahead of the G20 Summit set to be held in Osaka on June 28 and 29, as well as the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Despite the attention they give to sorting out trash and recycling, Japan produces the largest amount of plastic waste per capita after the U.S. The country is known for its obsession with immaculate packaging. It is not uncommon to see individually-wrapped snacks lined up neatly in beautifully-printed boxes that people then buy as omiyage (a souvenir that people give to friends). Japanese manufacturers have recently started to tackle the excessive use of plastic for packagings. Rather than single-use plastic packaging, they are turning to alternatives such as biodegradable plastics or paper bags, according to Nikkei Asian Review. 7-Eleven convenience store chain targets to use paper bags at all outlets by 2030. Another large convenience store chain, Lawson Inc., will also be looking at renewable bags to replace plastic bags. Compared to foreign companies, however, Japanese manufacturers are deemed as late to the game. Having said that, the move to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags will likely prompt companies in Japan to invest in developing new materials that are more environmentally-friendly.
  8. https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/tech-news-oslo-going-be-first-world-charge-electric-taxis-wirelessly Oslo is going to be the first in the world to charge electric taxis wirelesslyBy Marcus Wong - on 22 Mar 2019, 11:51am Norway’s capital Oslo is set to become the first city in the world to install wireless charging systems for taxis using induction technology. Basically, charging plates are installed in the ground and a receiver installed in the taxi, allowing for charging via induction at up to 75 kilowatts. Finnish utilities firm Fortum, US company Momentum Dynamics, and the municipal government of Oslo will work together to install the system. Annika Hoffner, Head of Fortum Charge & Drive has this to say about how the system will work: We will install the wireless chargers at taxi stands, such as the one at the Oslo Central Station. Taxis will be able to drive up to the charger and a wireless charging session will automatically start. This allows the taxis to charge in a place where they would anyway be waiting for new customers. The difference is that they won’t be emitting exhaust while waiting, instead they will be receiving renewable energy to charge the taxi's battery. Related video That certainly seems like a workable solution, and it might have the added benefit of keeping electric taxis in continuous operation. Not having to search for a charger, plug in and wait for charging to complete certainly seems makes things easier for taxi drivers to keep their cars charged, and it may even have the benefit of bringing more cabs to more remote taxi stands while they wait for their cars to get charged. Norway has the world’s highest rate of electric car ownership, in part because the government has implemented perks such as free or discounted road tolls, parking and charging points. Reuters reports that almost one in three cars sold in Norway last year was electric, with 46,143 new battery electric cars bought in 2018, making it the biggest market in Europe. Given the relatively small size of our country, you can’t help but wonder if we can implement a similar system for our buses in time to come. Sources: Fortum, Reuters,The Verge
  9. Post: https://mothership.sg/2018/12/cake-cutting-ieatishootipost-leslie-tay-singapore/?fbclid=IwAR3FfG0ZyBVQGryIq_XHe-Q6yMro33bWPZrnOoBWQJe9DFZ5x_vIpFmB2Zc So far I've brought birthday cakes to numerous restaurants and yet to be charged for cakeage. The only thing to take note is for halal joints, ensure cake bought externally is from a halal certified bakery. Certain restaurants/cafes selling their own cakes may not allow outside cakes to be brought in as well since it affects their revenue. So... Should customers be charged for bringing in a cake to celebrate after dinner? After all, this means having to provide you with extra plates, fork, and probably an extra 30 mins you'll be spending at their restaurants (possibly affecting their turnover) etc?
  10. ok, you win a restaurant voucher and you go to this restaurant to use it. say the voucher value is $50 and your total bill is $80. should the GST + SC be calculated from the total $80 or just from the additional $30 of spending ?

  12. I entered Johor thru Tanjong Kupang on 13 Feb, i remembered I did tap my TnG card at the immigration booth. But when I check my TnG card account now, there is no RM20 transaction, though all the toll charges for that day was reflected in my account. So is the road charge still in effect or just waived for CNY period ? Anyone notice the same?
  13. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/government-to-conduct-trial-of-mobile-app-for-parking-charges-8848624 Government to conduct trial of mobile app for parking charges File photo of a carpark in Singapore (Photo: Francine Lim) 15 May 2017 04:51PM(Updated: 15 May 2017 05:10PM) Share this content SINGAPORE: The Government will be conducting a trial of a mobile application that will allow motorists to pay for their parking charges using their mobile devices. For a start, the app will be tested among public sector officers in May and June, at selected public car parks in the city area that still require paper coupons, announced the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the Housing and Development Board (HDB) and the Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech) in a joint news release on Monday (May 15). The car parks include those in Amoy Street, Circular Road, Emerald Hill Road and Duxton Road. "The mobile app will provide more convenience for motorists as they need not return to their vehicles to add more coupons to extend their parking session," said the agencies. All motorists have to do is key their vehicle number into the app, select the car park, indicate their parking duration and start parking. According to the agencies, the app automatically calculates the charges that motorists have to pay based on their parking duration on a per minute basis. A refund will be given if they choose to leave the carpark earlier than the duration that was keyed in. Likewise, motorists can extend the duration of their parking session without having to return to the vehicle. Among the issues authorities said they will be testing is the payment module, "to be confident of its robustness before we extend the trial to the general public." They added that the plan is to extend the trial to members of the public later this year. Source: CNA/am

Do you connect the solar panel directly to battery with the wires to car still connected? What voltage/wattage solar panel you you use? When your car starts, will the alternator power kill the solar panel if you leave it there?

  19. I was at a restaurant waiting and watching the teenage waiters and waitresses work their butts off serving a very crowded dinner crowd. I told my wife even though their salaries are low and they receive no tips, hopefully their cut of the 10% service charge makes up for the effort. My wife, who knows the F&B industry quite well, laughed and said only in the ideal world. In the real world all revenues go to towkay's wallet. That left me quite disturbed. Any waiters, F&B fellas can clarify?

  24. Yahoo news: Malaysia to charge foreigners more for buying houses in Johor-report KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Malaysia's southern state of Johor, which neighbours Singapore, will impose a higher processing fee on foreigners who buy houses, state news agency Bernama reported, as it looks to boost revenues and rein in speculative buying. Bernama quoted the state executive councillor for housing and local government, Abdul Latiff Bandi, as saying the state government will charge a fee of 4-5 percent of the property value. Proceeds will go towards welfare projects in Johor. This compares with the current flat fee of 10,000 ringgit ($3,100) per property. Singaporeans have been buying houses in Johor, especially in Iskandar, which is a 2,200 square km (850 square mile) zone three times the size of Singapore and is just across a narrow strip of water. The strong interest also stems from cheaper property prices and utility bills compared with Singapore. The move also comes ahead of potential new measures by the Malaysian government, such as raising the real property gains tax, in the upcoming budget on Oct. 25 to rein in rising housing prices. Property companies that have exposure to Johor include UEM Sunrise, Mah Sing Group, Tropicana Corp and Hong Kong-listed Country Garden Holdings .
