  1. While some of us who are working from home can stay in bed longer in this cool weather, others who have to go into the office had to brave the thunderstorm this morning (23 June 2020). Certain parts of Singapore experienced flash floods and there were plenty of videos and photos being shared around. For those who hasn't seen any of those, here are some of the 'highlights' from SG Road Vigilante and other sources. The Tanah Merah/Bedok area seemed to have had it especially bad. We were impressed most of the traffic still continued on their way despite the flood water at Upper Changi Rd. It is believed that it gotten deeper and a few cars ended up stranded soon after. af509655-736f-4915-b2d6-be4f95587fd7.MP4 Jurong East also had some issues with the flash flood too.
  2. https://www.straitstimes.com/tech/coding-to-be-made-compulsory-for-all-upper-primary-pupils-next-year Enrichment classes on coding for all upper primary pupils next year Hariz Baharudin SINGAPORE - All upper primary pupils will have coding classes from next year, as part of the Government's goal to develop a healthy pipeline of tech talent for the digital economy. Conducted by the Education Ministry and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), the 10-hour enrichment programme will be piloted this year at some schools for pupils after their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), before being rolled out to all primary schools by 2020. Code For Fun (CFF) will seek to develop an appreciation of core computational thinking and coding concepts in pupils, through simple visual programming-based lessons. This was one of several key announcements made by Minister for Communications and Information S. Iswaran at the ministry's workplan seminar, which centred around building a safe and inclusive digital society for Singapore that leaves no one behind. At the seminar on Wednesday (July 10) at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre, the minister also announced the formation of a new specialised telecoms cyber security specialist team, and more efforts to equip Singapore's ageing population with basic digital skills. He also gave an update on government initiatives to help companies digitalise their business. Mr Iswaran said: "We are also reaching out to every enterprise, every worker, and every citizen, so that we can bring all of them, every enterprise regardless of its size, big or small, every worker regardless of education level and every citizen regardless of their tech savviness - bringing them into this overall national effort so that we can build a digital economy that is made up of enterprises that are digitally capable, empowered by workers who are digitally skilled and citizens who are digitally connected." This, he said later, starts from young, and CFF will seek to excite young Singaporeans about the opportunities in the digital age and expose them to the skill sets needed for the potentially lucrative digital economy. In 2016, a study by Oxford Economics and Huawei estimated that the size of the global digital economy amounted to about US$11.5 trillion (S$15.6 trillion) or over 15 per cent of global gross domestic product. And closer to home, a study published by Microsoft last year estimated that the digital economy would contribute another US$10 billion to Singapore's GDP by 2021 to increase the growth rate by 0.6 per cent annually. The Ministry of Communications and Information said in a fact sheet on Wednesday that since CFF was launched as an optional enrichment programme in 2014, it has benefited 93,000 students. It added that the programme will continue at the secondary level as an option to complement existing efforts in computing education, which include computing subjects taken at O Level (elective) and A Level. Mr Iswaran also announced that the Cyber Security Agency (CSA) will be expanding its youth engagement outreach with the Singapore Cyber Youth Programme (SG Cyber Youth), a collaboration with the cyber security industry and academia. This programme will reach out to 10,000 secondary and tertiary students in the next three years to provide them with opportunities to explore cyber security as a career and expose them to relevant technical knowledge and soft skills. It will build on CSA's existing efforts, which include the Youth Cyber Exploration Programme (YCEP) boot camp, a multi-day initiative which aims to introduce secondary school students to the opportunities of a cyber-security career and was started in collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic last year. All five polytechnics are now involved in the boot camp, and this year's edition attracted a turnout of 400 students from over 30 secondary schools coming together to learn about cyber security. Among other new initiatives under the new SG Cyber Youth will be a new advanced-level of the YCEP to be introduced next year, said the MCI. The ministry added that students can also look forward to participating in cyber security learning journeys CSA holds with the Education Ministry and its industry partners, adding that more initiatives will be announced next year.

  7. Posting this on behalf of @Wynd Hi guys, This is an unfortunate event that happened to me. Can I request for eye witnesses for an accident that happened on the 9th June 2014, at the junction of Upper Bukit Timah road turning right into Old Jurong Road between 6.30pm to 7.00pm? I was turning right from Upper Bukit Timah Road to Old Jurong Road and green arrow was lit in my favour but there was this car that dashed the red light and collided with my car. I am unsure if the red light camera went off or not. According to my claims advisor, I would probably lose this case as the other party can say that the traffic light is in his favour. And going straight usually wins the case. There was one driver driving past who kindly rolled down the window , yelled to me and pointed at him telling me he dashed the red light, best part is, I did not take down this nice guy's number or his vehicle plate which is vital information for me in this situation. So can I appeal that he or anyone who knows this guy would contact me at 9880 6818 to be my witness? Also, please help to share around if possible. I need to find the nice driver! icon_mrgreen.gif Thank you for your time.
  8. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h683pzcwpnA Since the extra demerit point system was implemented at school zones on Jan 1, Traffic Police reported 17 speeding offences in school zones; 11 drivers were caught beating the red light; 16 for careless driving and one for inconsiderate driving. On Thursday morning, the media observed how the Traffic Police conducted their enforcement in three school zones in the eastern part of Singapore. Two Traffic Police officers were stationed outside Temasek Secondary School on Upper East Coast Road to catch motorists speeding down the road, which has a speed limit of 50km/hr. Within 15 minutes of operations, Traffic Police caught a female van driver speeding down the road. The two officers chased after the driver in their motorbikes. She eventually stopped by the side of the road and her particulars were taken down. She declined to speak to the media. As part of stepped up enforcement against errant motorists in school zones, an extra demerit point applies to all motorists caught committing the offence of careless driving, inconsiderate driving, beating the red light, or speeding within school zones. 9. A woman and a toddler were injured in an accident involving a blue Honda and a taxi early Saturday morning, at the junction of Tagore Drive and Upper Thomson Road. Police received a call for help at 7.21am. Photos sent by a reader showed that the car had flipped over onto the road divider. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it sent two people to KK Women's and Children's Hospital. One is a woman in her 30s who complained of back pain, while the other is a boy around two years old, who had redness to the cheek. The taxi driver was unhurt. The police said investigations are ongoing. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/singapore/story/accident-along-upper-thomson-woman-and-child-taken-hospital-20140125

  12. Guy, for those people who uses the TPE to changi in the morning, I am sure you know about the upper changi road exit which always jammed. I think LTA has opened a new exit further down in PIE to enter changi north cresent in OCt 2012. This has not really solved the problem. Can we brainstorm what can be done to fix this and then feedback to LTA?? My suggestion 1) change the lane markings. Currently there is two lanes that can enter this exit from TPE and 4 lanes at the first traffic light junction at the upper Changi road. The current lane markings is the inner most lane will split into THREE lanes while the outer lane will conitnue as one lane. LTA should change the lanes such that both exit lanes will split into two lanes each. This will reduce the number of filtering required and helps to populate all four lanes more efficiently 2) change the traffic light timing. The timing should not be lengthened excessively but the frequency should be increased. It is because the four lanes at the junction cannot be fully utilized at the later part of the traffic light timing as there is only 2 lanes from TPE exiting. 3) Close off the left turn into Upper Changi Road north. All cars entering upper Changi Road north should use the new exit at PIE into Changi north cresent. no reason for them to squeeze with the rest of the cars going to upper changi road east. Any other suggestions? LTA feedback number: 18002255582

  19. take care guys if you stay around the area. ----- Jul 20, 2011 Dengue cluster at Upper Paya Lebar keeps growing By Salma Khalik The dengue threat continues to rise as the large Upper Paya Lebar cluster gets bigger, with 65 people living in the vicinity down with the disease - 11 more since last Wednesday. -- ST PHOTO: MAY LIN LE GOFF THE dengue threat continues to rise as the large Upper Paya Lebar cluster gets bigger, with 65 people living in the vicinity down with the disease - 11 more since last Wednesday. This is in spite of the National Environment Agency (NEA) sending search-and-destroy teams to visit every house in the area as well as public places where mosquitoes might breed. An NEA spokesman said 40 officers have been scouring the area daily, including weekends, and have found 29 breeding spots in the past three weeks. Further north, another large cluster of 11 victims has emerged in Woodlands. On a national level, 215 people were infected last week, the second week running that the numbers have been above 'epidemic levels'. In the first three days of this week, another 58 people have been diagnosed with dengue. More than 2,800 people have been infected so far this year, about 450 more than in the same period last year.
  20. when I was approaching the junction the light turned amber, accelerated as I thought I was near enough and then stepped on the brake right after as I didnt want to take the risk. Managed to stop in time but end up the front part of the car overshot the line (1/4 to 1/2). Then red light camera flashed twice with 1 second interval. Will tio fine? Thinking whether as long as tio camera means will tio fine already or whether the 2 flashes with 1second interval was to determine if you did beat the red light? Cause the second photo should show that I was at the same position which means the car was already at a stop and not over the junction. How? Dont want to tio fine and demerit leh.
  21. Its a Sunday and most of the shops are closed. Even the 4D outlet is no longer there. Most of the shop space are vacant and waiting to be rented out. This must be one of the most pathetic shopping centre in Spore.
