  1. 2 HOURS 3 MIN AGO SINGAPORE - The Media Development Authority (MDA) has directed SingNet Pte Ltd (SingNet) to cross-carry the Barclays Premier League "live" matches over the next three seasons, starting from the 2013-14 season. Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) had announced back in Oct 2012 that it had acquired non-exclusive broadcast rights to all BPL "live" games for the next three seasons from Aug 2013 from the Football Association Premier League Limited (FAPL) for Mio TV, its subscription TV platform. However, after studying the agreement between SingTel and FAPL, the MDA found that it contained certain clauses that can prevent or restrict the same content from being acquired for transmission by other pay-TV retailers in Singapore. The MDA said that it would not be disclosing further details of these restrictions. What is clear, however, is that the restrictions trigger the Cross-Carriage Measure. According to this measure, which kicked in on Aug 1 2011, pay-TV retailers who have acquired any exclusive content on or after March 12, 2010, must widen the distribution of such content by offering it to subscribers of other pay-TV retailers. As such, SingNet must now begin the process of enabling the cross-carriage of the BPL programme on rival pay-TV retailer StarHub's platform. When contacted, StarHub welcomed the latest development. Said Jeannie Ong, its Head of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations in a statement: "We welcome the decision of the Media Development Authority (MDA) to make the Barclays Premier League (BPL) subject to the cross-carriage measure. "Singapore viewers are the biggest beneficiaries of this decision and we are excited to be able to bring the BPL to our customers on our reliable network once again." The telco, which announced last month that it was finally able to open negotiations with the FAPL, five months after SingTel's announcement in Oct 2012, added that "in light of MDA's decision, there is no longer a necessity for us to acquire the broadcast rights directly from FAPL." SingTel, however, expressed its disappointment at the decision, and said that it would be making an appeal. Said Allen Lew, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore Telecommunications for its 'Digital L!fe' division in a statement: "We are gravely disappointed with MDA's decision requiring SingNet to cross carry BPL content as it disadvantages both the consumers and the industry. "We fully intend to appeal this decision and seek legal recourse if necessary. We assure football fans that we will fight hard so they can continue to enjoy the content that they love at reasonable prices." He warned too that football fans who want to watch the BPL on its own, without subscribing to Mio TV, will probably have to pay "significantly higher fees". "We will ensure that existing SingTel customers who are on contracts will not be affected," he said. "However, those who wish to watch BPL on its own will most likely have to pay significantly higher monthly fees. "This is because it will become untenable for SingTel to subsidise the cost of BPL for such customers." http://www.todayonline.com/sports/mda-orde...-league-matches

  4. What an explosive Sunday EPL matches .......... Arsenal defeat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge while Cristiano Ronaldo was dismissed for 2 yellow cards..... ESPN Soccernet reports : Chelsea 1 - 2 Arsenal Robin van Persie put Arsenal back into the Premier League title race with a superb second-half double in a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Van Persie struck twice in three minutes after the Blues had taken a first-half lead through a fortuitous Johan Djourou own goal. But while the Dutch striker's second goal was sheer class, his equaliser was clearly scored from an offside position. CHELSEA 1-2 ARSENAL REACTION Scolari demands an apology for 'offisde' goal Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari called for referee Mike Dean and his assistant to make an apology for allowing Robin van Persie's offside goal which turned today's Barclays Premier League clash against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge Van Persie was clearly in an offside position as he collected a pass from Denilson on the edge of the penalty area, before smashing the ball past Petr Cech. There was, though, nothing controversial about what proved to be the winning goal, when the Dutchman spun in the box to drill a low shot into the far corner. However, the fact his team were "killed'' by such a crucial decision did not sit well with the Brazilian coach. He said: "Have you ever heard me speak about referees any time in the games I have been here? Never, in 15 in the Premier League, four in the Champions League, the Carling Cup, I have not said anything, but today is different. Man City 0 - 1 Man Utd Wayne Rooney's 100th club goal was enough for Manchester United to confirm local supremacy with a 1-0 win over City at Eastlands - but Cristiano Ronaldo did not help much with a needless red card. Ronaldo's temper has been threatening to boil over for some time now but his decision to push his hands towards Rooney's corner midway through the second half seemed bizarre. Already booked, referee Howard Webb duly produced a second yellow card, condemning United to a nervy finish in which Patrice Evra cleared off the line from Richard Dunne although Joe Hart also denied Rooney seconds later. Sir Alex Ferguson defended Cristiano Ronaldo over the red card incident that has soured the week in which he is expected to be crowned European Footballer of the Year. The Portugal winger had already been cautioned when he leapt for Wayne Rooney's corner midway through the second-half, then stuck his hands in the air to parry the ball instead. It seemed a needless move and referee Howard Webb duly dismissed the 23-year-old. Its seem like Scolari unable to take it for 2 defeats at Stamford Bridge. (first lost to Liverpool). He sure breaks JM 4 yrs record for home defeats ...... Its now for Liverpool to grab the lead with tomorrow early morning (4.00am) match against West Ham United at Anfield .........

  11. What a weekends of matches we had so far since the begining of the EPL matches. For a while, I had missed all those attacking and smooth flowing matches thats made you glued to your seat watching all those exciting moment. Match 1 : Liverpool Vs Fulham - 2-0 For the first time, I really saw an attacking and flowing football produce by Liverpool. A total of 21 attempts (on goal) against Fulham but unlucky to add more goals to their score. Also for the first time that Rafa stick to the first 11 that played in the ECL (8-0) in midweek. Match 2 : Man U Vs Blackburn - 2-0 Another non-stop matches where we see exciting exchanges and end to end excitement from both teams. Unlucky for Blackburn Rovers to loose 2 goals in the first half scored by Ronadlo. The only poor performers in this match is the referee on the number of borderline decisions and a red card to David Dunn. Quote from ESPn Soccernet: "If Hughes was unhappy before half-time, he was positively fuming seven minutes after the restart when his side were reduced to 10 men by Dunn's dismissal. The former England international had already picked up one harsh booking for hauling back Tevez, so once Foy had deemed his late tackle on Saha as deliberate, a red card was automatic." Match 3 : Chelsea Vs Everton - 1-1 Was watching this match in the first half and later switch in between this and ManU matches. Everton did give Chelsea a run for lives in an evenly contested match. What a great missed by Drogba when presented with an open goal to score but mistime his short. I was hoping that both could end in a draw and it did until the last minute where Cahill's spectacular overhead scissor-kick beat Carlo Cudicini from six yards. Other exciting matches and results: Sprus 4 - 0 Wigan Derby 0 - 5 West Ham Birmingham 1 - 2 Aston Villa Way to go.................... Now, waiting for tonight match between Arsenal Vs Reading.........
