  1. Previewed by the Audi A3 Concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the production version of the A3 sedan will be making its global debut at the upcoming 2013 Shanghai Auto Show come April. Audi CEO, Rupert Stadler, commented that the new model will be an important derivative which will stimulate additional growth, especially in China and the U.S. Perhaps this explains the sedan's debut in Shanghai. The A3 sedan will be a direct competitor to the Mercedes CLA. The A3 sedan will be built at the country of launch. Chinese press reports that the A3 sedan will be assembled at the FAW-VW joint venture that also manufactures a variety of Audi models. However, I believe there will be other manufacturing sites around the world. Measuring about 4,400mm long by 1,840mm wide by 1,390mm tall, the baby sedan will be built upon VW's MQB platform. The engine lineup is expected to be carried over from the 2013 A3 hatchback. This means a range of TFSI petrol power plants ranging from 1.4-litre to 2.0-litre as well as 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre TDI options. S-Tronic transmission is available as an option on all models. 2. Skoda has released a set of new teaser images for its 2013 Octavia sedan. These images highlight the design of its grille, side mirror, C-pillar and LED tail light assembly. The only interior shot reveals the existence of steering-mounted paddle shifter, voice command buttons and a large infotainment screen. Skoda has indicated that the new Octavia will move upmarket with higher quality interior as the newly introduced Rapid will take over the segment currently occupied by the MK2 Octavia. The new generation Octavia will also gain in physical dimension to take on the big boys in the medium sized class such as the Camry and Accord. The Czech automaker is expected to unveil the new Skoda Octavia at the 2013 Geneva motor show in March. The new model is based on the same MQB platform as the Volkswagen Golf Mk7 and is expected to inherit a range of TSI four-cylinder petrol and TDI engines from it.
  3. The next generation Skoda Octavia has been spied almost naked in this latest spy video of the new Czech mid-sized sedan. As evident from the video, the Mk3 Octavia stays close to the general design of Skoda cars seen in the Mk2 version and the new Rapid sedan. The new model adopts a smaller grille and more angular head lamp design. The new Octavia will be larger than the outgoing model to distant itself from the Rapid. It will also be more upmarket. The new model will be underpinned by VW
  4. [extract] After releasing the Rapid sedan, Skoda is readying the next generation Octavia sedan. The current version has been in the market for eight years and the upcoming MK3 Octavia is said to be larger and positioned more upmarket. The prototype of the new Octavia was spied for the first time during testing at the N
  5. [extract] After the launch of the Skoda Rapid, The Czech car maker is ready to reveal the next generation Octavia sedan. At the Moscow Motor Show, Volkswagen Group officials have confirmed that the all new Octavia will be revealed this November before it goes on sale in the beginning of 2013. It will be the fourth VW Group model to be underpinned by its new modular MQB platform following the Audi A3, Seat Leon and upcoming VW Golf Mk7. Due to the new MQB underpinnings, the new Octavia is expected to be lighter than its predecessor although it will grow to around 4.8 meters long. This is to distinguish the Octavia from the new Rapid sedan in Skoda
  6. With the recent release of their MQB platform, it is expected that Volkswagen will release the next generation Golf some time in the fourth quarter of this year and Volkswagen will introduce changes to the model that is normally found in higher end models. It is rumoured that Volkswagen will debut the Mk 7 Golf at the 2012 Paris Motor Show this year (29 September to 14 October) and the car will be packed with technology that is usually associated with luxury models. The car will come in several engine variants, from the ordinary petrol engine up to a plug-in hybrid that generates around 243bhp. The normal models are powered by a new series of downsized petrol engines (code EA211) and diesel engines (code EA288). The top of the range diesel model (non GTD) will generate around 181bhp and 380Nm of torque. There is also a 220bhp twin turbocharged diesel engine that the company is still putting under some tests and this one will likely end up in the GTD sub-model. As for the petrol engines, the smallest displacement engine is a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine that generates around 138bhp and it features cylinder deactivation for increased economy. The larger engine (code EA888) sizes are at 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre. The Mk 7 Volkswagen Golf GTI gets the most radical change of all. The 2.0-litre engine will deliver around 260bhp, a 50bhp increase from the current generation. The next Golf GTI will feature the new VAQ electronically controlled front differential and Volkswagen mentioned that it will offer a more agile steering behaviour and a much greater sense of steering precision. All wheel drive and the company
  7. The cross-sharing of platforms and technologies between models in the automotive industry is not exactly new but in the recent years, many automakers have focused on this even more. The Volkswagen Group is one such company and we can clearly see this in models within the group. Volkswagen has rolled out a new and important piece of technology that will be used in their vehicles starting this year. It is the MQB platform which is Modularer Querbaukasten in German. In English it means Modular Transverse Matrix platform. Flexibility and reduced production costs are the key reasons for this platform. Volkswagen will build 30 models under this particular platform. It covers all models above the group
