  3. Having been very much involved in the 2003 pandemic outbreak, which spread across >35 countries and killing almost 800 people, I do not wish to see any diseases of such kind in my life again. I was one of the member in MOH committee to map out the quarantine and employee health screening requirement, and at the same time working closely with MOM and our regional team to map out the pandemic response plan, which include splitting functional team into 2 or more groups, to be stationed in different offices. I can tell you that everyone, including personnel from MOH and MOM, are clueless as to what is the best approach, so every suggestion and reasoning counts. One of my colleague was infected when he went to SGH for his regular medical checkup and died a few days later. The saddest part is that none of us were able to send him off (he was in fact cremated on the same day for fear of spreading the virus further). Dr Alexandre Chao, the only son of Professor Chao Tzee Cheng (renowned forensic pathologist in Singapore), was one of the 33 who died from severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars), while serving in a hospital fighting the deadly virus. China probes pneumonia outbreak for Sars links: State media BEIJING (AFP) - China is investigating an outbreak of atypical pneumonia that is suspected of being linked to Sars, the flu-like virus that killed hundreds of people a decade ago, state media reported on Tuesday (Dec 31). A team of experts from the National Health Commission were dispatched on Tuesday to Wuhan, in central China's Hubei province, and are "currently conducting relevant inspection and verification work", state broadcaster CCTV reported. An emergency notification issued on Monday by the Wuhan municipal health committee said hospitals in the city have treated a "successive series of patients with unexplained pneumonia", without offering details. Chinese news site The Paper reported 27 cases of viral pneumonia in Wuhan in December, citing unnamed health officials from the city. "Of the 27 cases, seven were critical, the rest were under control, and two patients are expected to be discharged from hospital in near future," The Paper said. It is unclear whether all these patients are suspected of having contracted severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars), a highly contagious respiratory disease. The emergency notification has urged hospitals to offer treatment and report cases in a "timely manner".

Four patients in Shanghai and two in Zhejiang have died. Hong Kong's government said it could not rule out the possibility of an outbreak in the city."

  7. When Spore H1N1 Flu Outbreak: 969 total cases. They say WHO: Spread of swine flu is 'unstoppable'... Probably one reason here... why it is speading so fast... In Japan , Taiwan and HK...when people have flu....they are social responsiblle to put on a mask to prevent spreading...(they're very automatic) Over here.... people are not educated to put on mask when they have flu... as and when like to cough and sneeze in the air..... like public places and mrt.... why spreading so far here......what's your view? or our garment not working hard enough? btw..japan... at a start also the number shoot up fast (rate of increase at start)...but seems had contain the situation...
  8. As above. For me, I will stay to fight. No way I am going to let my family suffer. I am sure my men will do the same. Of course now during ICT we will joke and say we will run, but I KNOW they will not do that, cos many of them can be downgraded, but they did not. They mentioned before all of us are here and they did not want to let their brothers down. But I am pretty sure the elites and FTs will be the 1st ones to run road. And IF we DO win the war and they return, I will personally round them up and be the 1st to put a bullet thru their bloody brains.
  9. As deadly as AIDS, there is an outbreak of the disease in Democratic Republic of Congo. So far 166 dead had been recorded. No known cure for such disease. This report came from CNA new as attach: GENEVA : The World Health Organisation (WHO) has confirmed a major outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and said 166 deaths there since April could be linked to the disease. The outbreak of the highly-contagious Ebola haemorrhagic fever, in the Western Kasai province, was confirmed by specialist laboratories in the US and Gabon, the WHO said in a statement on its website. Speaking to journalists in Geneva Tuesday, a WHO spokesman stressed that another illness other than Ebola could yet be responsible for some of the deaths, possibly the Shigella infectious disease. Of five samples sent to one laboratory, all showed signs of Ebola. Ebola causes the patient to bleed under the skin and in severe cases, from the mouth, ears and eyes. The virus, which has no known cure, is highly infectious for those who come into contact with a victim's body fluids. Ebola had previously killed some 450 people in the DRC since 1976, and 1,200 people across the whole of Africa in the same period. - AFP/de If I am not mistaken, AIDS also orginated from Africa.
  10. Read in today New Paper and reported by New York Times that there is serious outbreak of "Blue Ear" disease in pigs in China. "Chinese pork processors had denied that a serious outbreak of disease in pigs was causing a shortage in supply and driving pork prices up in China". Chinese authorities appeared unwilling to cooperate with oversea researchers. So, my breakfast of fried beehoon will be without luncheon meat from now on. Recently, many things had been happening in China with the latest case of Mattel toys incident. those hit & run companies in China for making fast $$ and without due care and consideration for the well being & health of the ppl.
