  1. 'No Indians No PRCs': Singapore's rental discrimination problem Source: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-26832115 I believe all countries have this problem of racial discrimination. Why would you not rent out your apartment to Indian or PRCs? Is it difference in culture, hygiene, unknown fear that they would have a 500-man Indian party in the house (no offence, typical stereotype), fear of missing dogs that end up in a pot (again no offence, typical stereotype) or are there other reasons for such discrimination?
  2. https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/discrimination-has-no-place-spore-society-says-president-halimah-tangs-allow-staff?cid=telegram_tg-single_social-free_26012019_today I lost my respect for Tangs, as being one of the oldest department store business in Singapore Is Tangs also saying malay and other races wearing religious attire cannot enter the store as customers?
  3. saw this on Fb. former PAP MP Othman Wok said he was told 4 hours beforehand by a reporter from Utusan Malayu newpaper that a racial riot will happen; implying that racial riots were plots by Malaysians to create chaos in Singapore. My dad used to tell me the same thing: the racial riots were instigated by UMNO. Who heard this too?
  4. Yahoo! News rocks http://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/singaporesc...-032651925.html By Seah Chiang Nee The current wave of migrant workers from China and India has had an unintended side benefit for Singapore: blurring differences between local Chinese and Malays. The new competition they introduced into the workforce has helped to get these once quarrelling races to put aside old discords and jointly face the common challenge. In the 60s and 70s, ethnic conflicts were a daily story in Singapore generally over who should get a bigger piece of the economic pie. Every issue seemed to revolve around race. The impact of globalisation and the mass inflow of foreigners are helping the Chinese and Malays achieve commonality faster than anything else. It has promoted a common bond
  5. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...ell_to_him.html The Stomp editors reviewed and approved a thread insinuating very very clearly that Vietnamese would kill and eat a dog. How do they continue to get away with this sort of rubbish. This is a corporate sponsored site with a huge reach that is putting up racially incendiary postings. Were I Vietnamese and saw this I would be frekin' pi ssed. This is how crap starts.... I have made reports and complaints about this sort of rubbish till I am blue in the face. The only thing I haven't done so far is to make a police report in person at a Police Post - It might be time to take that step to get something done about this racially hateful "news" portal.

  8. May 21, 2008 Blogger arrested for posting racist online content He claims that he wrote it only for friends and will apologise online A LOCAL blogger who ranted about a commuter's behaviour on an MRT train was arrested on Tuesday night. Police said the 24-year-old Chinese man was taken from his home at Paya Lebar Way at about 9.45 pm for 'posting contents in his blog which may wound the racial feelings of another person'. A computer, believed to be used to post the suspect's blog, was seized for investigations, which are ongoing. The case came to the attention of police on May 19 when they received two reports complaining of the alleged posts by the suspect. According to a report in The New Paper on Wednesday, the blog was apparently sparked off by the suspect seeing a man of an another race sitting on the floor of an MRT train. The blogger, an undergraduate, allegedly wrote: 'There he sat, unaffected by his surroundings, smelling like he didn't showered (sic) in years and wore some really scary dirty clothes...' He went on to make other offensive comments about that racial group in his tirade, drawing flak from local netizens, who called him a racist. One net-user wrote: 'Stupidity has nothing to do with race at all. Just look to that blogger for proof that stupidity transcends all races.' Added another: 'Some things, once said, cannot be retraced. Don't even make such stupid remarks in the first place.' Under Section 298 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, anyone with deliberate intention of wounding the religious or racial feelings of any person, causes any matter however represented to be seen or heard by that person, can be jailed up to three years, or fine, or both, if convicted. Deputy Commander of Central Police Div HQ, Superintendent Lee Ping Yue, in a statement late on Tuesday, said that police take a serious view of such irresponsible blog postings in a multi-racial society like Singapore and 'will expend all efforts in tracking the perpetrators'. Interviewed by TNP earlier on Tuesday before his arrest, the blogger said he was sorry for what he had written and would be more mindful of what he says in his blog in future. He said he was shocked by the furore over his blog entry, which he said was only intended for his close friends. He added that he was surprised that the entry, which was written two months ago, started circulating only days ago. 'I am a very expressive person - my style of writing is over the top. I write this way to make my entries more punchy and exciting,' he told TNP. He denied being a racist and maintained that he did not harbour any ill will towards the racial group he wrote about. But he let on that he was in a particularly bad mood the day he wrote the blog entry. 'I meant what I wrote in a different way. If people read it in another way, there is nothing much I can do,' he said, adding that he planned to put up an online apology for his comments. He has removed the post and password-protected his blog, which was featured on blog aggregator Tomorrow.sg, and linked to several popular online forums. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_239545.html told u all liaoz.. careful when u tok abt monks.
  9. Quote from ESPN Soccernet: "Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck has accused some of the clubs fans of sending abuse bordering on racism after Avram Grant replaced Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea's decision to replace the Portuguese coach with the 52-year-old Israeli has spawned a number of anti-Semitic comments which Buck says are unacceptable. The fans chanted Jose Mourinho's name during the second half and even the club's billionaire owner Roman Abramovich, who sat with the fans in the upper tier of the Shed stand instead of his private box, was forced to endure their taunts. But the sinister element of the near racist backlash following Grant's arrival is something Buck is determined to end. Buck declared: 'We welcome all constructive points of view. But there have been a few which could be viewed as racist and anti-Semitic and that must stop immediately." Also reported in today New Paper (01/10/07): "How far will they go until someone says ebough is enough? Right now, the abuse being hurled at new Chelsea manager Avram Grant is reaching new heights as it hits a new low. Aside from the usual heckling - which sometimes shows the ingenuity of the fans in prose and composition, Grant has recently been subjected to racist taunts, mostly amied at his Israeli roots. The anti-Semitic comments were aimed at upsetting Grant whose Polish father Meir, 80, is a holocaust survivor." Even Valencia striker David Villa, believing Grant had something to do with his transfer to Stamford Bridge being blocked at the eleventh hour, said: "Chelsea wanted me. Mourinho wanted me. But someone, I think it's Avram Grant, stopped the process." To Chelsea fans, please give your new manager some time to settle down. Its only the begining of the season and 8 matches played. You can grant as much as you can if half way through the season and Chelsea is at the bottom half. Its very hard to please everyone..............
