Seriously, saving gas can be headache. Regardless, there are some cool tips you could employ to save gas. As a mechanic, I consider these tips as GAS HACKS and they are the sort of things we ignore daily in our cars.

Do you know that a simple leak on gas cap can decrease fuel efficiency? This reminds me of a time when I set out with my late dad on a Mini Cooper in 2003. It was a long journey and required lots of fuel to stay up. In fact, I'll say it was an expedition with a Mini cooper instead of the traditional 4x4 truck; lol. The gas cap had a leaking point but we ignored throughout the long-kind of journey. Fortunately, we decided to pull over at a particular mechanic shop to demand reasons. He help dad inspect the car and suggested we fix the gas cap. After that, the fuel efficiency improved drastically. In essence, minor problems could be the reason why we spend more dollars on fuel.

Another reason could be vehicle idling. If you do idle for a long while, stop! Moreover, hoses could be the problem too. Chexk like the hoses or inspect the undercarriage for leakage. As a mechanic, what I normally do is to place a white carbon paper underneath the car. After a while, I'll check back for possible leakage. Sometimes, I find the leakage and some times I don't.

Also, meniac driving is another problem. When it doesn't feel right to make stunts on the road, don't do it. I noticed that meniac driving costs 9% of gas. Now, imagine doing away with the habit, you'd be saving a massive 9%.

Do you plan your trips? If you don't plab trips, please do. Planning trips before putting the vehicle on the road saves lots of gas. It may not be obvious but you're actually saving gas. Make use of your city map to find out the shortest route to your destinations. Also, avoid bumpy roads. Road bumps consume fuel in that the car needs to instruct the engine to produce a lit more power for the tires to climb bumps.

Finally, don't use your car always. Use the commercial buses or taxis VB for some occasions. If you're going to a close neighborhood, use your legs or get a bicycle. Meanwhile, nobody is too old for a bicycle. If you can't handle a bicycle, you should be able to handle a tricycle. Not only will save fuel but the entire mileage of the car and that means more value for the car. If you would love something extensive with some more facts, then, you should see how to get better mileage in petrol car the way the mechanics do. Oh, yes! Mechanics know what to do but wouldn't disclose everything to you because you should come back for business. Lol

I hope this helps.

Ps. This works pretty well on my 2005 Pontiac Aztek and 2015 VW.

I had Kia Forte manual since May 2018 running on 17" rims. FC was 10km/l.

I changed to a 15" K3 rims and used this product called Nano Energizer introduced to me by a workshop. For the past 1 year plus, I had an average of 13.8km/l

What you are doing is changing the rim size back to stock. The thing is FC will suffer when ppl upsize the rims.

Congrats. Your FC is back to stock.

I had a Nissan sunny before. I used to buy nano energiser from Carousell when the workshops stopped selling. Had been able to hit 520km, up from 470km. Think you can’t find the product in Singapore anymore.

I think we have already told you, but in a more subtle way.

I.E. there's not much mod you can do to save fuel and even if there is, the cost of doing it will offset the saving in future. Moreover, you have to pay upfront for the mod but the cost of fuel can be spread out.

Of course there are many ways to save fuel.

A white or silver car will use less aircon than a black car as the black paint will absorb more heat while the white or silver will reflect off heat. Aircon works harder uses more fuel.

A car with good window tinting will also be cooler and use aircon than a car with no tinting. So I always go for the darkest tint legally possible.

Insulate your cold aircon pipes so when you on your aircon you don't get a blast of hot air in your face will also save fuel.

Keep your tires properly inflated will also reduce fuel consumption.

Change engine, transmission and brake fluid regularly and use the correct viscosity and use fully synthetic also help your engine run more efficiently also save fuel.

Change your timing belt or chain at the correct interval also save fuel as when the belt stretches it loses efficiency.

Some people have a habit that they don't realise that they always brake on the highway when they don't need to.

Accelerate to the back of a truck and then press brake, slight down slope press brake, a bit of a bend on the highway press brake.

Accelerate hard to a red light and then brake hard waste fuel.

Carry a lot of junk that you never use in the boot also waste fuel.

A clean shiny car that is well waxed or polished also uses less fuel than a dirty car. This is why men that ride bicycles shave their legs as the little bit of leg hair adds to drag.

This is also why middle age men that wear lycra ride expensive bicycles also leave their brains at home because the extra weight means they have to peddle harder.

A fat MIL also add weight and increases fuel consumption. So if you must get married and their is no law that says you must, choose a wife with a slim mother will save you money in the long run.

Playing a CD in your car adds to fuel consumption while playing an MP3 or radio uses less fuel. The laser uses a lot more electricity than a radio or MP3. This is the reason we have guns and missiles on jet fighters and not lasers like Star Wars.

Big and small spoilers, extra body kits that add to drag also increases fuel. Any body kits that makes the car more aerodynamic will increase fuel efficiency.

If you drive to KL at night instead of during the day also uses less fuel as no sun and less traffic. Go JB to pump petrol at 2.30 am when less jam at the Causeway also uses less fuel.

Accelerate to overtake someone on the highway just to brake hard to move from lane 1 to 3 to get off the highway also waste fuel and I see that all the time.

Using a battery desulfier to keep your battery in optimal state also save fuel as the spark plugs are getting the fuel electric charge. Driving with a weak battery like you engine going to die anytime will use more fuel.

Smooth acceleration and driving with the engine at the smoothest and quietest also save fuel.

Adding unnecessary fog lamps just add weight, increases drag and because people spent money to add these stupid fog lamps they must use it in evenings with a little bit of rain also increase fuel consumption.

Yeah everything not necessary just add weight.

Take out to lighten the car and save fuel.
