this few days during idling my display lights& tail lights flicker, rev up to 2+k rpm then it no more flickers.

battery is still charging at 14v, and normal at 12v

the maintanence free battery is about 1 yr old, with a VS.

is this sign that the battery need to change soon?

If cranking takes longer than usual, it might be a sign that battery is due for replacement.

Most often the kind of flickering you describe is caused by a weak or bad battery. It is not storing enough power to smooth out the normal voltage fluctuations of the alternator.

I ever heard of battery going bonkers after just 9 mths.

It depends on how often we stress the battery.

Wonder if anyone's battery ever last 5 years.

Hi,

Your problem has nothing to do with your battery as once the car has started the battery is no longer supplying any power to your systems, it is your alternator that is running all electrical equipment and charging your battery at the same time, if there is a problem it is your alternator. you say the battery is still charging at 14v, did you measure it, if over night you measure your battery again and see the voltage, it might be very low 11 or less, then you have a battery problem. If not, the battery is still good. Maintainence free battery is very hard to tell when it will die on you, for lead acid batteries at least you will see the water level drop.

That I agree. I do noticed that before my 2 years old normal battery fail, the battery water consumption increased slightly. nod.gif

VS thing is not certified by SPRING SINGAPORE. it may cause short circuit to the engine. as to whether it affects the battery, any one got bad experience?

Do a visual inspection on the following

a) check alternator drive belt for loosness and forextrem wear and tear

b) Check alternator to battery positive terminal cable for connection loosness and corrosion. Check battery negative terminal cable to body chasis for good connections.

c)Get hold of a digital voltmeter and do the following test

- with engine ignition off - connect volt meter to battery terminals - the reading should be not less than 12volt

- Disable the ignition coil, canrk engine , the volt meter reading sould bot drop more than 9.5volt.

- Run engine to 2,500rpm ,switch on all the headlights, aircon, radio and all acc, the meter reading should be not less than 13.6 and not more than 14.2volt

Hope this helps

By the way, where to get a good volt meter that could be plug into the cigg adapter. I saw one at Carrefour and some accessories shop but it only show level range (min or acceptable). I want those that gives you the volt reading (e.g 13.1 volts) instead of the range.

Anybro know where to get it and the price?

I think all these MF batteries are a freaking waste of money!

Met a Malaysian guy driving a SG registered B13 Sunny. His conventional battery that needs maintenance (water top ups) is close to 3yrs old.

He told me it is difficult to buy these batteries in SG. Go Malaysia to buy. Pop by any of their workshop and tell the size of your battery and insist on the maintenance type. They will get it for you.

If can couple with desulphator, confirm 5yrs+ lifespan!

Either get Yokohama (made in Malaysia but more expensive) or Yuasa.

See attached photo. Available in ebay spore & Yahoo auction spore. Simple voltmeter - no need to know the lower and upper limits of each test.
