I have this next to my boost gauge

xantrex_link10.jpg

1. The Link 10 amp hour meter reports to you the actual amp-hours consumed: Amp-hours are how battery capacity capacity is rated. You simply tell the Link 10 your battery's capacity and a sophisticated microprocessor tells you how much of your battery capacity has been used and how much operating time remains.

2. You'll get battery state-of-charge at a glance: We've put an accurate "fuel gauge" indicator on the Link 10. This multicolor bar graph even flashes red to warn you it's time to recharge.

3. The Link 10 reports Kilowatt-hour consumption: Kilowatt-hours are units of power over time. Kilowatt-hours are what you buy from the electric company. You'll be able to use your Link 10 to evaluate performance of trolling motors, inverter loads, electric vehicles and more!

4. Time of Operation Remaining is shown: The Link 10 tells you how long you can operate at the present power consumption rate. It also lets you look at loads over several time intervals: instantaneous, 4 minute, 16 minute, and 32 minute averaging is available. this means that even with loads that cycle on and off, the Link 10 gives you the whole picture.

5. The Link 10 is a digital volt meter: This is vital if you ever want to troubleshoot you DC system. You can monitor charging sources and spot dangerous over-voltage or undercharging conditions which can ruin your batteries!

6. It's a Digital Ammeter: The Link 10 reports how much current is being used by various DC devices. You can make intelligent decisions about power consumption.

7. Battery History: The Link 10 tracks the number of recharge cycles your battery has experienced, the average depth of discharge, and the greatest depth of discharge. Managing your batteries for long life and high performance has never been easier!

8. The Link 10 automatically scans the major functions: Volts, Amps, Amp-hours / kilowatt-hours and Time Remaining. When you've got your hands full, the Link 10 display is hands-free!

9. The Link 10 adapts to its environment: Under low light conditions, a photo sensing device on the front panel of the unit dims the display level so you don't "blast your eyes". The display becomes brighter as the ambient light increases. This feature keep the Link 10's power consumption to a minimum.

10. Installation is a snap: If you can handle a drill, a screwdriver, and follow clear, step-by-step instructions, you can install the ultimate battery monitor, the Link 10 amp hour meter.

Yah and this battery lasted you two years. And the water costs close to nothing.

Imagine changing battery every year. dizzy.gif $100 given away for free all because they don't last.

Stock batteries are sized to meet the car electrical min requirments - normally 45 0r 55 amp/hr. Once you start to add more accessories, the battery will go flat in no time.

My stock battery started giving way after 1 yr. Experienced longer cranking, which got worse the longer I left my car parked. About 3 mths later it totally died on me. Nothing happened when cranking. I think with things like gauges, interior lights and ICE, it caused the battery to go kaput faster.

There are few possibilities why yr stock battery fails prematurely.

a) Long sea voyage and storage in high temp open space.

b) Battery may have been sujected to abuse (jump starting few times) and high engine rev - mechanics may be trying to do short cut in charging up the weak battery.

c)Manufacturing defects - such as internal leakage and grounding & poor quality of sulfuric acid and distilled water.

d) Installed too many acc so much so that the stock battery and alternator is working overtime - causing battery to overheat.

e) Too many start stop city driving - alternator just don't have the opportunity to fully charge up the battery.

f) Parasite drain - some interior/glove box light(s) maybe on all the time even when the engine is killed. Poor wiring of acc usually is the main cuprit of voltage drain.

The inconvenience caused by it dying on you outweigh the warranty they give. Seriously! If you take just some time like a Sun morning just to see the battery fluid levels which costs next to nothing. No disruptions in your motoring life for a long time.

Hmmm....I did ask around and I was told that my stock battery is expected to run out somewhere ard 1.5 yrs. I have interior floor lights (which I usually don't switch on), gauges and ICE. Supposedly it's the ICE that causes the battery to drain faster.

I changed to a maintenance-free batt after that. I think Amaron? How long does this generally last? Will playing ICE without running the engine greatly affect the lifespan of the batt?

Frankly due to our high day temp, sealed MF battery casing will expanse and therefore allows minute water vapore to escape slowly to the atmp and over time the water level in the battery will drop down to an unsafe level resulting in overheating of battery plates and untimatly it dies prematurely.

ICE takes lot of energy to from the battery and without continuous punmping of enegy from the alternator, the battery will be very much weaken.
