Electric car started to smoke in the early morning, civil defense deployed water guns and fire extinguishers to cool it down

(Google translate)

A brand new electric car started to smoke in the early morning, and the Civil Defence Force deployed water guns and fire extinguishers to cool it down.

The incident occurred at 00:20 on Friday (July 11) at the BYD brand's dealership in Deban Garden.

It is understood that the smoking vehicle is a brand new BYD Seal series electric car, which was stationary at the time.

Vantage Automotive Pte Ltd, the official distributor of BYD cars in Singapore, said in response to Lianhe Zaobao's inquiry that the dealer has been informed of the relevant accident report.

The dealer said that all BYD cars in Singapore are equipped with BYD's "blade battery" (blade-shaped lithium iron phosphate battery), which is widely regarded as one of the safest electric vehicle battery technologies in the world.

"Safety is always our top priority. Although initial investigations indicate this may be an isolated incident, we are still treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and will publish a full report once the investigation is complete."

In response to Lianhe Zaobao's inquiry, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said that when the authorities arrived at the scene, they found white smoke coming out of the bottom of an electric vehicle.

Firefighters immediately used water guns and fire extinguishers to cool the electric vehicle and directly injected water into the battery compartment to cool it down.

After the battery cooled down, the contractor then towed the electric vehicle to the repair shop.

No one was injured in the accident, and the Civil Defence Force is investigating the cause of the accident.

I heard from one BYD fanboy that this is not possible because they have the safest super duper high tech battery. He concluded that the root cause must be due to the new OBU installation which has "set many cars on fire recently".

I just smile and nodded my head politely 😂 😂 😂

i guess no one know at least for now..

I had my concern on OBU installation so i only find hi fi shop to do it.. not those tyre shop who suddenly become electrical expert..

Even when the hifi shop doing i was there to see.. i asked the chap how come just tapped BARE wire to the fuse box.. will the connection come loose.. he said DON worry.. we had done alot like this.. no problem one... i shake head and asked him to use proper connector/junction..

guess some workshop is doing this install to supplement their not so good business...

Noticed BMW tends to get fire easily, quite a number of cases already, so can't blame on OBU 😁
