Hjteo 1st Gear May 29, 2010 Share May 29, 2010 I urge you to pick up the book I was extolling earlier. Even if you're not a runner. As long as you're reading this thread, you're interested in weight loss, exercise, diet, please go beg, borrow, steal or buy one It's not just about running, or the lost hidden tribe, you'll learn so much more and may even fill up some of the blanks of the stuff you read here. Even the skeptical may be convinced. Read the book. It's An excerpt: 'But the big mystery continued to be food. Judging by the Godzilla-like growth of our heads, Lieberman could pinpoint the exact moment when the cavemen menu changed: it had to be two million years ago, when apelike Australopitheus - with his tiny, giant jaw, and billy-goat diet of tough fibrous plants - evolved into Homo erectus, our slim, long legged ancestor with the big head and small tearing teeth perfectly suited for raw flesh and soft fruits. Only one thing could have sparked such a dramatic makeover: a diet no primate had ever eaten before, featuring a reliable supply of meat, with its high concentrations of calories, fat, and protein. "So where the f--k did they get it?" Lieberman asks, with all the gusto of a man who's not squeamish about hacking into goats with a rock. 'The bow and arrow is twenty thousand years old. The spearhead is two hundred thousand years old. But Homo erectus is around two million years old. That means that for most of our existence - for nearly two million years! - hominids were getting meat with their bare hands.' Ok, I won't spoil your fun. Go read the book. In fact, CBS earlier in somewhere in the middle of this thread, if I remember (and if I've forgotten or gotten it wrong, forgive me, CBS ) that man was not meant to run long distance and/or marathons. And Mark Sissons or some paleo websites also talked about being hunter gatherers we walked long distances with short sprints to forage and hunt for food. We'd to sprint when we'd to chase or kill wounded animals. In fact, they'd be only 1/2 right. Because we're meant to run even longer distances. Read the book and maybe you'll believe that we're Born to Run. BTW, I'm in no way related to the author, no scottish blood, nor the publisher. In fact, neither am I related to CBS or MO or skunk here except that we're Homo sapiens This book is good - found another hunting method - running the prey to exhaustion without spilling blood. Carpediem Neutral Newbie May 30, 2010 Share May 30, 2010 Hi all, Been reading this thread with interest. Came across some things that runs contrary to what i believe i knew. Can some of the sifu clarify? I thought that Paleolithic diets do not recommend food like dairy products and encourages lean meat? Fats from grass-fed meat are ok, that i remembered. And also most fruits are ok? Cheers!

Brothers, remember that exercise is still King! We admit that exercise is important but diet is even more...hahah In the past, I ran my knees to bits trying to maintain my weight and failed miserably These days, I still do my share of exercising but with the paleo diet, I can save my knees from further devastation... Just went for a health check, my resting heart rate is 56bpm - still inside the athlete zone yet I exercise less than before...

Just went for a health check, my resting heart rate is 56bpm - still inside the athlete zone yet I exercise less than before... Same here, for 30 years, tried to maintain initially and then gain back my 6-pack n muscles I had in my late teens and failed miserably with exercise. Now I have same waist line I had when I was 20, and my 6-packs are back becos of practising what I learned here in 5 months. Fantastic. If exercise is King then diet is Queen. And just like the in chess, Queen is the most powerful.

Can some of the sifu clarify? I thought that Paleolithic diets do not recommend food like dairy products and encourages lean meat? Fats from grass-fed meat are ok, that i remembered. And also most fruits are ok? Cheers! There are many schools of the "paleo" methodology. Robb Wolf advocates no dairy (unless you don't have auto immune issues) and as much good fat (grass fed meat) as you want. Mark Sisson is ok with grass fed/free range dairy and as much good fat as you want. Art Devaney like lean meat. Lauren Cordain advocated lean meat at first but has recently changed his mind about fat after reviewing all available research. Bottomline is: look at the science, look at your goals, then adjust to fit.

Are these nuts already baked/roasted or we have to do further work at home? I am also looking for places which sell these unprocessed almonds and walnuts so that I can just bake them at home. The processed ones (baked/toasted only) sold in supermarkets are quite expensive. Thanks for the tip.
