Notsogoodman 4th Gear January 25, 2011 Share January 25, 2011 must sell it cheap.. capture the market mah.... not only that... u must provide options for moddings... this will capture all walks of life... from young punks to executives.. if there's 2.0T on K5 with a sub 130k at this current COE range... i am very very tempted to change from jap to korean ride... i couldnt justify myself not to change to a 2.0T with more than 200BHP at a cheap price tag, but go for a conti / Jap ride... 2.0T with more than 200BHP, u mean Ford Mondeo with the ecoboost engine with dual clutch? ↡ Advertisement
Notsogoodman 4th Gear January 25, 2011 Share January 25, 2011 this is a rough guide -> 17k * 2.4 +COE = ~100k (roughly 15k profit) the equipment lvl seem good.. OMV so low.. ??? OMV*2.27 bro, ARF is now 100% of OMV, no longer 110%
Notsogoodman 4th Gear January 25, 2011 Share January 25, 2011 Based from my conversation with customers, majority of them are still having the doubt of owning a korean car. The most common remarks I have heard is "The Koreans are improving but can their engine and spare parts last for the next 3-4 years?" And we are talking about cars like Cerato Fortes, Koups, Sportage, Sorentos and K5. The lineups that i mention can make Japs cars look bad, but end of the day, its their MENTALITY. Branding comes a long way and KIA got to do alot more to change sg buyers mindset. Bringing a korean TC vehicle will raise awareness but the same question will bounce back again, "Can it last?" "Wah, can Korean engine tahan or not? The lists will go on and on. This spec will come but it is the matter of WHEN? Will there be a high demand? this reminds me of my almost journey with a Forte in Feb 2009 when it was first launched. When my friend heard that I was looking at a Kia, the first thing she said was Kia no good, high FC, not reliable.... & a few months later, when she finally saw the Forte (n prob heard new stories), n told me Forte seems to be a very good car. Cttan456 2nd Gear January 26, 2011 Share January 26, 2011 no offence bro, have u actually test drive the car yet? i mean, a car to me is more than just looks though i can't deny being pretty is a good start. and i shall reserve my comments till i actually get a chance to test the car at the end of the day, for $115k, you actually have quite a few good choices of cars in the 2nd hand market just my 2.99 cents..... Don't compare new cars with used cars. If you want to do that then for 115k your option are almost endless and along with that endless meaningless debating. Just stick to new cars will you? Cttan456 2nd Gear January 26, 2011 Share January 26, 2011 (edited) Bro, I don't think this is true for the rest of the world, if not Kia wouldn't be growing their market shares right?? Yup, Kia is growing their market share worldwide while in Singapore, Malaysia and SE Asia it is growing too but at a slower rate. SE Asians prefer to stick to their Japanese brands based on trust, haha. That is the difference between the mindset of a developed country and a developing country. Sorry to disappoint but Singapore and China for all its economic progress and flashy buildings are still developing countries and the mindset of their people is proof of that. Beehive3783 Twincharged January 26, 2011 Share January 26, 2011 Yup, most of my walk ins are still prefer Vios or Altis over Forte even I explained to them about specs and equipment that KIA has. Nowadays, branding does play a major role in consumer purchase. Typical sinkie mentality.. From here you can already deduce why PAP are still in power after so long.. because the citizens are afraid of change. I'm different, I look at value for money. And the Korean brands are doing just that right now. Toyota? Forget it. Made in Tomyum land, the quality and worksmanship of the finishings are no longer of the same standard as MIJ Toyotas. Cttan456 2nd Gear January 26, 2011 Share January 26, 2011 Once and for all we can forget about getting the K5 Turbo because during their press release in USA, it was stated that 2.0Turbo will only be available in North America. Even the Koreans don't get it and that being so, no other country will get it. I suspect it was engineered to pass only US regulations. So we can rest our case here. The best we can hope for is the 200bhp 2.4GDI.

I understand the 2.4GDI engine cannot tolerate the sulphur content in our petrol that's why it isn't brought here.

So far only North America and Korea gets it. The launches in every other countries prior to SGP does not include this engine. Furthermore, on their global website, only 2 engines, the 165bhp 2.0 and 180bhp 2.4 is offered. Realistically speaking, the 180bhp 2.4 is the best we can get here so it will more or less be on par with its Jap competitors, in the engine dept. It looks like the day of me driving a Korean car is getting closer . This is just like the Honda Civic that we are getting here, which is a 2.0L, 155bhp K20Z2 engine. Whereas in the states, they are getting a 2.0L, 197bhp, K20Z3 for their Civic. Just lately, I've been seeing a few 2.0L Toyota Altis in Malaysia. You probably don't get to see them on our roads. Merkava Neutral Newbie January 26, 2011 Share January 26, 2011 (edited) This topic of Jap vs Korean car has been in MCF for very long time and there wouldn't be any conclusion. In the general public mindset, Jap cars are more superior and lasting than korean cars. When KIA has equiped their models with high specs and features, most of them will raise eyebrowns or give a typical doubtful expression. With this latest K5 on the road, more questions and doubts will surface. I seriously don't know when this mindset will change? For example, presumely, a Toyota Camry 2.0 selling at $130k and Kia K5 2.0 T going at $125k. Like what forumers requested, top of the range specs and features: paranomic roof, HID, 6 airbags, etc. Which one will u go for? Dollars vs Sense? Based on the current market trend and buyers mentality, I believe the result will be 1 sided.
