This topic of Jap vs Korean car has been in MCF for very long time and there wouldn't be any conclusion. In the general public mindset, Jap cars are more superior and lasting than korean cars. When KIA has equiped their models with high specs and features, most of them will raise eyebrowns or give a typical doubtful expression. With this latest K5 on the road, more questions and doubts will surface. I seriously don't know when this mindset will change?

 

For example, presumely, a Toyota Camry 2.0 selling at $130k and Kia K5 2.0 T going at $125k. Like what forumers requested, top of the range specs and features: paranomic roof, HID, 6 airbags, etc. Which one will u go for? Dollars vs Sense? Based on the current market trend and buyers mentality, I believe the result will be 1 sided.

 

 

 

Don't fret. The Koreans are here to stay. Just look at the sales of the Hyundai Avante 5yrs ago. People were scepticle at first. People branded the Avante as a Corolla Copy-Cat. But look at it now. It's flooding the roads. Cheapness and a low selling price ain't the selling factor. That includes a good drive, refined and comfortable drive all-in-one package. Plus the Avante isn't well spec/ featured in all honesty.

 

The same can be said of the i45. Look on the roads. There's an increasing number of i45. I believe the same will be of the K5 as well. The same story that follows the Cerato Forte and Forte Koup.

Sorry to say. The Avante's priced was slashed and at the same time MIJ car prices were going up due to appreciating Yen, that is why sales figures for the Avante increased by so much. So yes, it's about price.

Not only the price. The overall package of the car- Interior space, decent interior quality, smooth ride, good suspension, decent drive all factors contributed to the success in the Avante sales.

The new Avante should sway some potential Altis buyers to buy it instead.Both the Forte and Avante provide good value for money compared to Singapore's favourite 1.6 car,Altis.They look stylish next to the dour Altis.

 

Kia has been a relevation in its design of Sportage,Forte and the new K5.I hope Toyota and other Jap manufacturers can pull up their socks and revitalise their dull cars in terms of design especially.

Don't compare new cars with used cars. If you want to do that then for 115k your option are almost endless and along with that endless meaningless debating. Just stick to new cars will you?

advantages of new car:

- peace of mind

- 10 yr coe

- servicing and repair plan listed out in detail by c&c

- higher resale value than 2nd hand car

- new car smell

 

if you are going to use the point that 130k can get other 2nd hand cars then seriously we can talk until no end

i can also say, save the $$ take bus 1 year later will have better car for 130k

then after 1 year, save the $$ again cause 2013 will bring about far better cars

save until 2200 best la, maybe cars then can fly

 

 

comparing apple with apple 115k is a very good price for a brand new luxury car

most people have a price bracket of 10k, but even at 125k you won't be able to find a better car

Now that you mentioned it, I doubt they will even bring in the 2.4GDI. So far only North America and Korea gets it. The launches in every other countries prior to SGP does not include this engine. Furthermore, on their global website, only 2 engines, the 165bhp 2.0 and 180bhp 2.4 is offered. Realistically speaking, the 180bhp 2.4 is the best we can get here so it will more or less be on par with its Jap competitors, in the engine dept.

my honda accord has 155 and i'm already thinking its overly powerful lol!

Numbers are just paper specs. It all boils down to the Chassis being able to put all the power it can produce on the road. The only way to find that out? Go for a TestDrive!

Well, for comparison's sake in this forum, we should be comparing new car VS new car. However, we're living in the real life, so yes, we should also be considering 2nd hand buys if any should interests you. So there's nothing wrong.

There is nothing wrong with this comparision as I have heard comments like this since the spike of COE prices. For price bracket like $114999 of K5, buyers does have options to go for 2-3 years old conti brand which he/she could have a chance to own one.

 

But of course, the comparision never ends. It boils down to what the buyer really wants.

Well, Singapore's market is primarily dominated by sedans, but this Forte Hatch should increase the product line-up appeal of the Forte.... Sedan, Coupe and Hatch!

Sure, no problem with that. If you really want to stretch it, you can even buy a S class/7 series/XJ/A8 and even though they aren't the current crop, they will still beat a new K5/i45/Camry/Accord/Teana/M6/Mondeo hands down.
