Caddilac Neutral Newbie March 6, 2011 Share March 6, 2011 do french makes really give problems? or is it just hearsay? Yup... The biggest problem is their electronic and air-con problem... The Citroen C4 Picasso can have electronic parking brake failure... Saw once at causeway during traffic jam, probably due to overheat... For electronic part my friend's 406 got a crazy indicator which can sound anytime without switching it although the light won't blink but just sounds annoying... French car also got poor aircon design coz most of their parts are hidden within your dashboard(same as Volvo) while Japanese, Korean and German put most of the parts behind the glovebox... So when your aircon need to change some parts and your whole dashboard may need to be taken out, which is very funny thing... And their aircon may not work very well too because in Europe they seldom use it but here we always switch them to max So you can see that the French car's worldwide sales are pretty poor and they are even behind the Korean now, mostly due to their arrogance in design... In terms of reliability, I believe that the Korean is way ahead of both the French and Italian... IN USA the reliability record of Hyundai is even better than the Germans and most Japanese makes! ↡ Advertisement

For me, most important is not engine problem, i.e. breakdown for nothing, easily overheat. If french car ADs want to win buyer confidence for their cars, they should give longer and better warranty like wat C&C give for Kia.

Even if extend warranty also meaningless if the car breakdown often.Just imagine, every now & then visit workshop, car downtime, where got time? Car is to work for us,not we work for car. Friendstar Supercharged March 6, 2011 Share March 6, 2011 I know dats why i say as long as its not engine problem i am ok. actually there are more problems to worry about than engine problems. in fact, most of breakdowns u see are non-engine related. pump failure, gearbox, some solenoid thinggy etc. to me, anything that will cause me to be stranded (less battery flat) is too big a problem to have. Though if within singapore still not too bad. Wad is worrying is if making road trip to KL and stranded on NSH then very jia lat.

Althoug I've no experience with pug or cit, my previous megane cabriolet which is also french make does has reliability issues. Aircon failed within the 1 month while cruising along NS highway  From the renault forum, there are lot of megane owners complain abt electrical problem & water leakage. Mine started giving problem on the 2nd yr and lots of squeaking/rattling sound It is a waste of time & effort to get the agent to look into the squeaking noise which they can't resolve.... I've no experience with their new models, no comments... Edited March 7, 2011 by St220
Sktan10 5th Gear March 7, 2011 Share March 7, 2011 It is a waste of time & effort to get the agent to look into the squeaking noise which they can't resolve.... Exactly. Even repair free also troublesome. -Take half-day leave, put the car there & just sit there & wait. -Leave the car there & take cab or MRT to work. Buy new car is to enjoy first few years trouble-free ownership. If still must change/repair here & there, think better buy second-hand car more worth. Most that gave problems are actually auto gear meganes and not manual meganes. Edited March 7, 2011 by Kangadrool

My friend's 325 also had noises coming from the rear interior trim and it was very hard to troubleshoot.
AMF Neutral Newbie March 7, 2011 Share March 7, 2011 Test Drived 3 Cars yesterday..... C5, K5 and Mondeo(2.0T). (I am on Mazda 3 hatchback as a benchmark for my review below) I must said K5 is really surprise me the most..... Outlook (very handsome) beat all the Rest with Paddle Shift ! My little Girl like the K5 the most(but but when ask her why, she is still a little Girl loh). I felt the Brake of K5 I like best maybe I am currently on aftermarket 4 ports slotted disc brake. Very Good value for all the feature(esp the +10K more X version), but I was taken back by the OMV and thinking of the Higher Cat B COE. Ha..... and I look very KuKu with the foot brake. Power wise is good and linear but I think there is more engine noise above 4k rpm. Suspension is on Firmer side which is my liking....., and the steeling wheel weight is ideal for me that also provide good feedback. Any1 know if K5 is on CVT or Torque Coventer or otherwise..... the paper written CVVT (real blur here) ??? C5(basic) overall is nice, the biggest pull is the Power/Torque, higher OMV and Cat A car(assume lower depreciation). But the steeling wheel with non-turning center console caught me off, maybe not use to it. Powerwise and pickup is off course better than K5 cos of the twin Scoll Turbo. Rather quiet and ride is comfy but I think the suspension is too soft for my preference (I am on Coilover but those comfy type). I was a little nervous during the test drive, maybe is the brake(a bit soft for me), and also the position of the Accelerator is very different(further, reference with the Brake pedal). The steeling wheel weight is lighter than K5 that ofter lesser feedback. Somehow my heart was on Mondeo(2.0T)...... esp the 5doors(mind U, but not hatchback hor) but the Damn Doors was very heavy ! But who is complaining.....= more metal protection (I assume) but most Lady will not Like the 5 doors, esp the Boot....keke! Somehow it drive and look value for $ for the build, ride and power @ 200+hp with max 300Nm at below 1700rpm if we compare to other Conti. @ 1.55tonnes, it pull off from the stationary real impressive but somehow can feel the heavy weight of the Car during pickup. Very stable at higher speed(of course lah @ 1.55 tonnes), the Ride and road handling is impressive (K5 is not far behind hor). The 6 speed dual clutches gear box..... Good Good, somemore it is WET ! Weewee........ I will need some time to get used to the Brake, Only if Only COE for CAT B is much lower !
