I already said in another thread , waterproof car will not be enough to solve issues here ,we must also have FallingTreeProof cars available ! FTG & COE

So aren't you glad your car is not at your favourite spot when it happened? What's there to complain about? [:p]

not NEA, they catch mosquitoes. NParks is supposed to maintain the trees. But NParks can easily blame PUB, say the floodwater loosen the soil causing the tree to topple.

Eh...but the recent fallen trees area not affected by flood at all.

Supersonic

why do we need so many trees?

It's LKY baby. So trees all over the place. There's never enough trees...even if it has to kill people.

If you don't crash into it, it crash into you.

NParks Statement <_< Microburst is the root cause !

At around 2pm on Tuesday, a mature rain tree (of age 35-40 years old) along Yio Chu Kang Road was uprooted, hit a car and killed the driver.

Our preliminary inspection showed that the tree was uprooted due to severe weather conditions. The tree was last pruned in January 2010, as part of routine pruning cycle to reduce the weight of the crown.

According to the Meteorological report, an intense microburst had occurred at the area around that time. The wind speed at that time was as high as 65 km/h, accompanied by heavy rain. A microburst is a localised, powerful descending air draft column that produces damaging winds at high speed. Microbursts may last for only a few seconds, but are known to knock down fully grown trees.

NParks is deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident. Our priority now is to extend assistance to the family of the deceased.

The incident happened at about 2 pm at the junction of Thomson Hills Drive and Yio Chu Kang Road.

A MAN was crushed to death when a rain tree uprooted and crushed the car he was driving, pinning him to his seat during Tuesday's afternoon's heavy downpour.

The driver, 32-year-old Chua Loong Wai, who was alone when the accident happened, sustained injuries to his spine. The accident occured at the junction of Thomson Hills Drive and Yio Chu Kang Road at around 2pm.

Officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force took 20 minutes to extricate his body from the tangled wreck of twisted metal with hydraulic spreader cutters.

The National Parks Board (NParks) said that they understood that there were strong winds and heavy rain at the time the tree crashed to the ground.

A spokesman added that NParks is assisting the family of the dead man and will be conducting an inspection of the trees in the vicinity.

When The Straits Times arrived at the scene, the black Honda Freed was smashed and a team of about 12 workers had begun taking the felled tree apart - a task which took them about two hours to complete.

PUB and MEWR are in hot soup. for those who read/saw yakult ibrahim's replies to parliament's queries on why the flooding still occurred despite more frequent road cleaning and how it can be prevented in future, he has no proper answers!!! for those who are not aware of parliament proceedings, the question raised have to be submitted to the relevant minister beforehand the parliament seating. so mr yakult had time to prepare and yet he still couldn't answer the questions but went on to deflect the questions by saying what PUB will do in future blah blah blah. this time, i think PM also can't help him liao

it is very obvious he has no answer

the previous choke drain is jus an excuse

such a big hoo haa but yet no picture or press coverage on the particular choke drain ?

which brings us to another scary question

is climate change catching up on us?

dun mean to be rude,

but... perhaps final destination...

god have a plan for him.

and perhaps it is time for him to return to god's kingdom, i supposed...

NEA is the one who planted the trees there , never maintain properly causing it to fell ,

and push the blame to god ? ? ?

planting trees is easy but maintenance is difficult..doubt they will spend $ on checking every tree [laugh]
