It does. ABS prevents locking of the wheels. This is where the wheels are not moving but the car is sliding front. At those speeds, cars can stop in shorter distances if the wheels are decelerating rather than locked.

 

 

But is the abs faulty if the pedal was vibrating? Cuz thats what happened when my cousin jammed the brakes. The pedal was vibrating but u can hear the tires screeching intermittently. Its like one moment screeching one moment not screeching. Like as if the wheels keep locking and rolling then locking and rolling again and again.

No, the purpose of ABS is allow the driver the ability to control his vehicle under slippery conditions. While in general the effect of having ABS can help to reduce braking distance, it is not for all cases and was never intended to be.

Pulsating effect means ABS is working. It does sound like either the tyres are horrible or could have incorrect inflation pressure.

Not sure what is the correct pressure for forte but we always pump to 30psi. Tyres are the stock ones.

Sure sounds like it the ABS was working. You only said you heard screeching in your initial post. That's what would happen if the wheels locked.

Yup. At low speeds, an ABS can actually extend the braking distance. It was in the video I linked to earlier.

Just buy Volvo S60, auto calculate of the required stopping distance for driver. There is no need to argue about 2 seconds rule or how many cars length needed. [laugh]

 

 

So u suggest everybody but Volvo S60.

 

Is this a practical suggestion? Then we sud only see S60 cars on e road.

He definitely stepped on the brakes hard enough cuz the abs kicked in already. Cannot be road slippery cuz the other guy could stop faster. If the road slippery then the guy infront should also have a longer stopping distance. I guess the only thing that could cause the problem is either the stock tires of forte are lousy or not the distance was too short. And the tires were still quite new cuz the car's mileage was less than 10000km at that time.

 

This is where tire pressure comes in.

 

Higher tp means less grip n longer stopping distance.

 

But many other factors like better quality/newer tires. Weight of car. better brake pads etc.

 

And when i say 'better', i dont mean aftermarket ''performance'' parts.

 

many times those so-called performance parts under-perform e stock parts.

Bro, can I suggest that if you're not confident of keeping less than 10 car lengths when traveling at 100km/h, to keep to lanes 2 or 3. I'm not suggesting who's right or wrong, but you will notice that practically no one keeps 10 car lengths' distance on lane 1. You will be frustrating people behind who would like you to keep up with the flow of traffic.

 

 

Keeping 1 car length fr every 10kmh does not mean driving slow. It just means keeping a safe distance from e car in front.

 

I am still keeping up with e car in front but i am just leaving a bigger gap so i n e tail-gaters behind can hopefully stop in time sud we need to emergency brake.

That is e ABS doing its job. All seems normal.

Yr tire pressurs seems normal but its best to check e handbook or e sticker in e glove-box fr e correct tp fr stock tires. But u can adjust a coupe of psi up/down to better suit yr driving style or weight of load in e car.

 

But dont go too far fm recomnended tp.

No confusion. I'm just saying that if you need 10 cars' safety distance, you may want to keep to lanes 2 or 3, or you will have many people "undertaking" you.

Please do not be confused also if someone overtakes you and jam brake in front of you - at ten car lengths a 100km/h you may seem to be road hogging. No hard feelings - I really respect your safe distance policy. But I would also suggest you convince the tailgaters behind you too.

There is never any excuse for anyone to purposely jam brake in front of anybody else' car for no good reason.

Just overtake and be on your way.

We already have enough accidents on the road without some ego nut case to endanger someone else' life.

I'll rather meet lousy drivers than dangerous drivers.

Can share with us what you consider makes that Kia Forte a decent car? That is the most numerous used car model for sale advertised on sgcarmart that is less than a year old?

 

the fact that you won't need 5 car lengths to get your car to come to a complete stop at 100km/h makes the forte a decent car
