Vinceng Turbocharged January 18, 2019 Share January 18, 2019 Ya, Toyota is reliable, but getting boring! I see, regarding the NVH. So in your experience, the NVH of Mazda cars is worse compared to other brands? I haven't test driven the Mazda 6 but how bad is the small back seat space and boot space? If the difference is negligible, then might be such a huge issue for me :) My family did test drive Skoda before, but didn't like the "feel" of the car... Anyway we think we will stick to Jap cars for now Thanks for your detailed responses once again. Mazda 6 has limited rear headroom, and the hump in the centre of the back seat takes up a lot of leg room ↡ Advertisement

More legroom definately than altis but prob some say squeeziee than camry. Drive mazda 6 is much better. Its a drivers car definately. Price for a 100k large sedan is the lowest amongst camries. Sonatas. Accords etc. So the value of money is there. Dunno how it manages low omv though which thus makes price better Ya, Toyota is reliable, but getting boring! I see, regarding the NVH. richard_crl032 6th Gear January 18, 2019 Share January 18, 2019 Hi, thanks so much for the detailed response! Actually considered changing to Contis for a long time, but got scared off by the maintenance costs and potential issues (like the gearbox) since my family will probably intend to drive the new car for another 10 years... What is NVH? Not that familiar with car terms, apologies! Is it a huge issue? Mazda 6 looks good but from what I've read, I'm a bit concerned about the small back seat / boot space. How is the new Altis? Family wants a change but if it is nice, might consider also... :) Hi Sol, Mentioned NVH issue is on noise and it is loud engine when you drive it hard. Driven leisurely which is indeed not quick for at least the 2.0, it will be fine ... As a result, 0-100kmhr on reported 10+ sec is not an enjoyable affair but NVH are fine throughout all speeds .. I drives the 350Nm torque 240bhp forester xt while the mazda 6 is driven by my wife. Cheers. Richard

Dunno how it manages low omv though which thus makes price better Having driven Nissans, Toyota Prius and the odd Mercedes-Benz CLA (all not at dealers), I must say the Mazda 6 indeed has the best handling characteristics of them all thus far. Space-wise loses out to a Camry, but a definite step up from the mid-size family sedan (Altis, Mazda 3, Sylphy, Lancer, etc). In terms of value for money, definitely there. Dunno how it manages low omv though which thus makes price better My Wife is now driving the new FL Mz6. It’s a much larger car than Altis which was her last car. Handling is superb.Having said that, the Altis has the best rear legroom of many cars we have seen and even better than Mz6. 1051mm vs 984mm for Mz6 saloon. It also has a flat floor rear which can sit a centre 3rd passenger.
Amator207 1st Gear January 19, 2019 Share January 19, 2019 Just placed a deposit for a 1 year old Mazda 6 2.5A Premium. Anywhere to change the honeycomb grille so it looks like the 2018 version? Hi, much of the 2018 car is different from before. Not just the exterior body parts and interior but suspension and chassis. I think the lights aren’t interchangeable as well. Most importantly, sound insulation and overall NVH albeit engine of my mazda 6 2.0 still coarse and vocal when pushed even a bit. Quite certain that I would not buy a one yr old 2.0 .. even less critical CO will decide the same. Cheers. I tested the 2017 MZ6 model a few times with a Friend who was also looking at CX5 2.5 in end 2017. The 2018 car has many chassis changes and also under carriage soundproofing done to give better NVH. I read they use liquid filled bushings and new shocks. As a result the car is quite a bit heavier
Amator207 1st Gear January 19, 2019 Share January 19, 2019 Suggest you test-drive the new Altis as well as the 2.0L Mazda 6. Have colleagues who own a pre-FL Mazda 6 2.0L and find that its pick-up is a bit sluggish. However, the Mazda 6 is undeniably better-looking than the Altis, and is arguably a different category of car already (luxury sedan or large family sedan). It also has nicer features, especially if you're willing to splurge more for the safety features of the Executive trim. It does have some issues with NVH, but nothing that can't be solved or mitigated with after-market fixes (just ask Richard). You do get quite a lot of car for your money when you get a Mazda 6. Having said that, it's always good to cast your net wide initially. Do have a look at the Contis as well. Skoda and VW lowered the prices on their large family sedans of late and offer good value for money as well. Of course you'll have to factor in stuff like maintenance costs in the long run and reliability but that's up to you to decide. Yes the pick up is sluggish. I had a 2 year plus Altis and the throttle response was much better. Then again the mZ6 is 200 plus kg heavier. I had a throttle controller in the Altis so perhaps this addition to Mz6 might make it a little more responsive.

I concur pilot ethrottle will be also my next mod but CO still ok with it now at 3.5k km.. and getting betta as it loosen up. My forester xt zooms pass 1.2k to 1.5k to 2k rpm.. but at 7-9km/l though .. lol ! Kids back for holidays and often with the mazda 6 ... relaxed ride which has its advantages while the forester xt is raring to chiong and a bit busy with its achille's heel ... unsettling ride compliance.
