I'll be getting my new Mazda 6 in 12 days time. I plan to upsize my rims immediately. Any one of  you out there can share  what is roughly the 'market' value of a new set of mazda 6 original rims and tyres? That is, how much do we think we can trade in our new set of mazda 6 original rims and tyres for? $800?

 

Any thoughts is much appreciated! Thanks!

Congrats, I am collecting mine in 9 days ...I.e 22nd Feb. You going up size from 17”?

17" or 19" .?

It's inevitable that in sg we are more concerned over such as we all paid a high premium regardless of make, a Japanese car in US or EU can be 20+k local currency which in our shore can be 5x and change out the currency to sgd.

 

Uniquely Singapore due to our policies and tax structure and car is classified as luxury item not essential, any tax can be imposed without much consideration relative to other essentials. Unlike in big countries where car are essential items.

 

I supposed all that we experienced be it a 40k us bmw that sell for 200+k sgd to 20k us japanese car sell for 100+k is a consequence of the policy and tax structure all dealers are out to make as much as possible though not all run biz with same philosophy.

 

Generally, technical/mechanical know how is not as good here in our shore when comes to more hard-core items like engine, especially transmission.... All in all just more more more money needed....

 

As many said here, buying car is a happy thing and the fact can afford a car in this ultra expensive environment no matter how and what dealer does etc we should count our blessings that we can do so.... Where many are living hand to mouth....

But we also need to be fair and give credit where it is due.

 

TEK may be very greedy in their pricing and their after sales really CMI. However it must be noted that other than the standard grade, all Mazda 6, Cx3, CX5, CX9 Premium and above grade comes with virtually all factory fitted equipment and fittings.

 

The leather seats are surely factory fitted for it doesn't look like overstuffed chairs with misaligned seams. Nor do you get the feeling like sitting on PVC leather like in a taxi. The HU, 360deg cam, and all those safety crash avoidance systems surely came from the factory. Even the wheels came from the factory and not local fitted. One telltale sign is to see the orange/yellow dot on the tire sidewall. They are aligned with the tire valve stem. Few if any local tire fitters will know or bother to do this step. Only factory fitters can do it for the fittings were prob done by robots. 

 

The HU is surely from the factory ya. And the BOSE speakers. if u go Toyota, its just an ugly 2DIN HU done locally with brandless speakers

When there was a possibility of my new car having 19" tires, I also considered downsizing to 17". Several reasons:

1. comfort
2. slimmer tyres has better aerodynamics and less rolling resistance, i.e. higher efficiency
3. cheaper tires (so with same budget can get even better tires)
4. lower risk of aquaplaning

The 19" wheel on the 6 was actually still comfortable during my test drive. For some cars, the handling can improve tremendously with bigger rims. But the handling of the 6 is so good that 17" felt already very good so there is no real need to go for 19" to improve the handling. Nevertheless, the 19" will look better and so the SE told me if I want to downsize my rims, there will be many takers for my 19"rims.

But later my car came with 17" and I was actually very happy with it. Handled marvelously and fuel efficient.

Hi,

Not sure if anyone has tried the DVD player on 2019 MZ6.

Happen to have a DVD in the car and want to test it. Somehow its not working and cannot get it to show on the display even the car is stationary.

Do we have to use a specific type of DVD in order to play it?

Is there really better aerodynamics with slimmer tyres? I think the tyre forms a very small part of the entire car's drag coefficient.

I have done extensive tests with different tyre widths, the narrower tyres are usually significantly more efficient. Other parameters would be "eco" tyres with lower rolling resistance, tyres with stiffer sidewalls and tire pressure, etc. Slimmer is surely more "aerodynamic" as this is science. Anyway this point came from a website that I was reading.

ya i agree slimmer is more aerodynamic. I was thinking the difference could be negligible, say 235 vs 215 wide tyre

Guys pls DO NOT downsize or down width your tires just becos you are trying to save fuel. 

 

You will loose control and overall handling powess as at result

 

What you need are touring tires, tires that are quiet, tires that offer fuel saving properties and low rolling resistance. 

 

And seriously the need to maintain the optimal air pressure in all 4 tires at all times plays a much bigger part in saving fuel and ensuring you have a comfortable and safe ride at all times. The need to ensure all 4 wheels are properly aligned plays a part too
