Been trying out 95/98 past 2 months. Confirm also 98 offers better $$ per km. On top of that, you get more power and smoother ride. Almost a brainless decision:)

This article seems to say otherwise - so who is right?

What if I choose to use gasoline with higher octane ratings?

For starters, you will be making the gasoline manufacturers a lot richer than they already are. That aside, using a higher octane fuel than necessary will send unburned fuel into the emission system. This will also be collected in the catalytic converter. Should you overwork any system, it can breakdown or under perform. An early sign of such a predicament is a rotten egg smell from the tailpipe. Do not get a panic attack. Simply switch back to using a lower octane gasoline and viola! The strange odor usually vanishes after several tanks of gasoline.

fc and ron discussions will continue to go on and on...

end of day what's important is a) your right foot b) your wallet.

there are too many individual variables which can skew the findings. for example my idea of 90% highway driving situation (12km of driving on cte) diis different from another person's 70% highway (from tampines to tuas). my mileage and actual driving pattern will also differ from another's which may result in different fc for different grade of petrol used. the amount of "junk" i have in my car vs another's is also another factor..

There is not enough info to say whether power and FC will improve with RON 97 petrol vs RON 95.  The write-up posted about this is correct - for older engines.  I don't know enough about the current Mazda6 engine but for the 2.5T engine they have a sensor to detect a higher RON fuel.  The turbo then injects a richer mixture when it senses a higher RON giving the 250 bhp.  It cannot inject a richer mixture with the lower RON because self combustion leading to knock will occur.  Self combustion depends on the richness of mixture - the richer the mixture the more readily it will combust under compression.

Hence both are right, the article as well as the info on the new Mazda6 2.5T.  Can't say about the FC though.

Anyone driving the current M6 2L and upgraded rims to 18” or 19”? How is the ride?

What’s the size for 18” and 19” you are using?

Guess the 4" stilettos will never be as comfortable as flats... Really depends on what is more important to you... looks or comfort...

Marginal to no difference between 95 and 97.

95 - 9.1L/km

97 - 8.9L/km & 9.0Lkm.

98 - Can't comment as I have not refueled with 98 so far.

Pumped 98 since day one. My 1yr old m6 ex still running 7.5L/100km. Expressway 50/50

Hi,

I changed the rims for my Mazda 6 to 18” and the ride seems harsh. Any way to make it more comfortable? Like tyres or should I change back to 17”.

I assume you would already bought a set of 18" tyres and of course the rims so any change would cost you money. If there is no cost involved then the easiest is to just switch back to 17. Otherwise the simplest way is to reduce the pressure of your tyres by a few psi, reduce it slowly until you find a pressure that is comfortable for you and then maintain at that pressure.

Cannot compare, your Wife's Lexus is a Turbocharged 2.0 that give much better power than your 2.5 Wagon.
