Eyke Supercharged December 9, 2010 Share December 9, 2010 (edited) Answer lie in the government open door policy on FT/PR. Do a head count on your MSCP or office carparks and i can assure you that at least 30% or more motorists are so called FT/PR. propose new rule: FT/PR must pay 2x of their successful COE bid price (not the lowest successful bid, ie. they must pay 2x of what they bid)! 2nd car registered to same person OR any person at same address OR any address owned by same person OR any address owned by people at same address, must pay 3x! 3rd car must pay 4x and so on. Kelpie 2nd Gear December 9, 2010 Share December 9, 2010 People who are smart wouldn't be buying brand new Japanese cars now.....they'll just top up more on their loans to get conti.... or better still, top up to get a luxury marque.... for those who have budget constrains, they'd probably be looking at 4-5yr old Japanese/ Korean rides, or even conti's such as Renault/ Opel.... it just doesn't make sense to buy a $80k 1.5L sedan now, when just a few months ago, it was selling at around $60k.... might as well get a 5yr old one at $40k?? You save $20k, and japanese cars are quite trouble free and can last quite long (well, its really up to you to attend to the problems or not).... All I can say, we have many young drivers these days . So not use to paying for more than 100K for a puny Japanese car. Yes, people still buy Japanese cars depsite of the 100k price tag during those days not just 80k now for one. Regards,

Good idea. I wil support u if u can propose n hopefully got chance it wil b implemented. I think e gharmen too kind to FT n PRs. Ty come here to benefit fm our ''system'' ty sud b paying much more than what citizens r paying. Afterall u think ty come here if ty can get a better deal elsewhere? Our foreign policy too damm attractive at e expense of us citizens. Otherwise what is e use of being a citizen of Sillypore.

Mrlau Clutched December 9, 2010 Share December 9, 2010 2 solutions only? maybe so, in the eyes of lta people who does not have much say in city planning there are other solutions such as decentralisation of the city centre to the surburbs which clearly has not been fully expolited. there is simply a too much housing in the west, north and east and too much office space in the south. you cant really blame lta for it. lta got no say which plot of land to zone as office or housing Centralizes then nobody take the public transport, SBS and SMRT earn what ? Alim 1st Gear December 9, 2010 Share December 9, 2010 (edited) My 2 cents .. Cars in Singapore is more of a "want" rather than a "need". I agree with some people that needs to drive a car for work and a car would be a "need". We have a "good" public transport system and it works well for most of us. I agree with the cut of the COE to reduce the congestion on the road. The car population has to be controlled else our traffic will be like the traffic in Manila, Jakarta or Bangkok. In conclusion .. willing buyers/willing sellers .... The price of COE is high and if someone decide to buy a new car, he/she has to pay higher COE. Existing car owners would agree that the congestion on the road is getting worse and this is caused by the incorrect projections over the years and the release of excessive COEs. The release of COEs should be based on the number of cars scrapped plus a allowable percentage of growth. You believe that the gahment made "incorrect projections" ah? the staticians are as accurate as you can get. Have you ever seen our economy projections go haywire? Flood the cars on the roads and increase erp. Make people like you accept quota cut is the only way. Coe increase but with lesser cars on the roads, will they reduce erp charges and remove the gantries? Edited December 9, 2010 by Alim
