Top gear is back!

Without giving anything away, I think it is okay to say that the series went out with a whimper. No studio audience, just an empty studio with two lonely presenters, even in Top Gear Season 1 Episode 1 there was an audience. No Star in a Reasonably Priced Car (sorry Gary Lineker), no news segment, just a back to back showing of two features that would, in a normal series, be run in two separate episodes. But there were no histrionics either, just matter-of-factly ending off with, Goodbye.

Despite where Top Gear has gone since the dismissal of Clarkson, I have to say that while Top Gear would not be the same without the trio, I got a feeling that the trio will probably not be the same without Top Gear either.

It was on bbc knowledge last nite. Funny as usual, especially the 2nd half featuring the 4x4s and made me giggle throughout. I probably will punch a producer too if i was in one and coated in mud and cold water and there was no hot meal when i reached the mansion. The ending was poignant: Thank you and goodbye.

But the trio is still well and alive. I'm anticipating their new show. It might be better or worse dan the previous topgear but who cares. I'm sure ppl will look forward to their new show.

Bumping the thread -

I was just reading some gossip about walkouts and problems at the "new", Clarkson-less Top Gear.

It seems that as well as the wonderfully alluring Sabine Schmidt, the totally wonderful Chris Harris will be on the show.

Although I am ready to boycott it, with Chris and Sabine, it may well be worth a watch just for those two

Have to give credit to BBC for securing Chris' and Sabine's services. They are very interesting characters.

Though I am very much looking forward to the show with the celebrated car hosts, and very likely the return of Topgear as a car review program, compared to the comedy junk it has become previously, the world may not think so.

Afterall, visitors to this forum must have to some extent, an interest in cars

If you're looking for well informed car reviews - Top Gear is not where you want to be -

there's a host of other shows that fill the niche

Shows like

  • 5th Gear
  • Chris Harris on Cars

For example are both way more technical, better informed and more complete than Top Gear will ever be

agree.

the selling point is not really cars, but the well-balanced goofing around by the trio on a big budget, based on vehicles.

the producers know that and counting on the new characters to gel.

Chris Evans might be the problem though. Read the ego, everything he wants to control type. For a first timer on a car show, might not be the best idea.

two things about the original trio -

they all very much loved cars,

they all did have "pre Top Gear" experience and had paid their dues

Chris Harris - he's farking great, and I think his knowledge outshines any of the originals, Sabine is a queen -

but the other Chris - I'm not so sure about

Chris Evan should be well received by the UK audiences and he is knowledgeable about cars (at least the expensive, limited edition ones). The challenge will be to reach out to non-UK audience who may not know him or like his style of humour.

I don't think TG is about the information, its about the enterrainment. you want information about cars, got to fifth gear.  if BBC does the chris evan thingy, they ruined the show.
