Top gear is back!

If you're looking for well informed car reviews - Top Gear is not where you want to be -

there's a host of other shows that fill the niche

Shows like

  • 5th Gear
  • Chris Harris on Cars

For example are both way more technical, better informed and more complete than Top Gear will ever be

I introduced Top Gear to an ex who was not into cars, and she loved the three idiots. She started on the specials first, and moved on to other episodes because she liked the way it was presented. Not too technical (loads of hyperbole, really. Like how Clarkson reviewed the Gallardo Spyder as having 93 millions miles of headroom, etc) but still with enough information on how the car drives.

Chris Harris is knowledgeable on cars, and he recently had the first track day with the Holy Trinity (P1, LaF, 918)... I don't like 5th Gear as much, mainly because of Tiff, but he's still knowledgeable.

The new TG and the new series that the J/J/R are producing with Amazon will reach out to different audiences. Hopefully, with a bigger budget, the new series with Amazon will feature more exciting rides. And stupider challenges.

One thing about Tiff - he knows driving and he knows cars, his pedigree as a driver is outstanding.  He's the equal of Sabine on the track, and can drive circles around any of the Top Gear trio...the chick on 5th Gear is also hot

I have no complains about his knowledge about cars and driving. All the same, as a TV presenter, he doesn't resonate with me.

When Tiff, Vicki and Quentin left TG...almost everyone was saying that would be the end of TG. But it got a new life in a different format. So I will give the new TG team a chance and see if it will be another success in a different style.

Vicki?

David Coulthard seems to be joining TG as well.

BBC of all people, in its various attempts to launch Top Gear spinoffs in other countries, should know that it is impossible to try to pick up where Clarkson, Hammond and May left off by following their formula - Top Gear Australia, USA, Korea, etc. all tried using the same 3 person format: an overbearing ape, an angry little man, and a boring bloke.

Chris Evans seems pretty full of himself and Sabine Schmidt I don't like too much as she seems to try too hard. I like Chris Harris, and don't think he should jump aboard a sinking ship.

You can literally fall asleep watching him.

Nice bloke, but not someone i want to switch on the telly for.

Chris Harris is highly knowledgeable. Able to talk a lot of cock about cars.

But if i wanted to watch a car review, i will go to youtube.

Yeah. His shows are more like documentaries or car reviews. TG isn't a car review show. Even my mum who doesn't like cars also enjoys watching TG.

Yeah, in this day and age, the show must have enough appeal that u want to switch on the telly for.

I dunno much about Chris Evans, but from what i've seen on him previously, I won't watch his programmes.

That's just one of the reason I don't like him as a presenter. During Chris Harris' gig with the Holy Trinity, Tiff came on, and I wanted to switch it off already.

Anyway, Chris Harris has a certain charm to him that Tiff doesn't. Doesn't hurt that Chris is younger and more physically appealing. Youtube has a lot of car reviewers, not all are good. But there's this guy, chubby guy who reviews tuned up cars, can't remember his name right now. Quite good also.

Youtube reviews for regular cars, i generally like this guy best, Sofian Bey

He's fair, not overly biased towards any manufacturer.

If you are ready to boycott the show as a car review focused program, what makes bringing in Chris Harris and Schmit will turn it into an entertaining comedy?

They aren't known to be comedians or witty the last time i heard.
