Ken4555 1st Gear January 26, 2011 Share January 26, 2011 anyways Bro, can you pls tell me the benefits of a Bonnet insultor? i try this to insulate the bonnet?? less heat, better engine performance bro... seriously.... no offense and dont mind me asking... cause i really curious... i mean there are many many mods which i think are complete waste of money... but there are people who buy it, use it, and even thought logically no performance gain what so ever, they still do work cause the owner is happy and the owner feels it works, weather or not its just in the mind, happy and song can already! i think 2-T works... many dont... i think iridiums are better than copper but many dont... i think a aluminium crank pully is asking for trouble but many love it and hv no problems... the list goes on... you get my drift?.... to each its own... yet again... happy and song can already! but this bonnet insultor sia... got mech tried to ask me to install, even once a lady tried to sell me this.... so very good etc... i tried my best to understand how in the world will it help? my logic is watever bonnet you have, steel, carbon or fiber glass or watever, the engine will still produce the same amount of heat... unless you say extractor wraps... or the ceramic coating... ok then i guess will probably have less heat in the engine bay area... but a bonnet insultor? cant get it leh?... i think should be even hotter the heat got less escape surface area... my friend tried to do those 'bonnet tilt' you know extra bracket and the bonnet like open abit when its closed... EGs EKs and Mivecs love to do it last time... my frd did it on his Rex... did his road dyno show no difference with the bonnet totally shut... but then maybe cause his car got scoop i dont know lah... bro pls enlighten me how the whoever guy convienced you to buy this product... Ken4555 1st Gear January 26, 2011 Share January 26, 2011 To protect the paint work from water mark stain from the engine heat. My previous ride, sunny, has water mark stain due to heat from the engine when it rains. U could feel the difference of the bonnet after a drive. The insulated part is warm to touch, the sides will be warm-hot. My current car got no water mark stain unlike my previous sunny. Cost me just S$50 with installation. If u DIY, would be cheaper. NOW this makes abit of sense...

Whoever told u that bonnet insulator gives u better engine performance are bullsh!tters. It is something just to protect ur paint work from the engine heat. I am lazy and only wash car every alternate week. But if you wash ur car every week, then no need this bonnet insulator. Imagine, dirty car, hot bonnet, rain come and go and the water droplets dry up on the hot bonnet. Over time, habis lah. Thatz what happened to my sunny. It became so bad on my maroon red sunny that the polisher told me cannot polish off, respray would be much cheaper. But if you dont mind water marks on the paintwork, ignore the above. Octopus 3rd Gear January 29, 2011 Share January 29, 2011 Yup, the inspector did not check my headlight and window tint. He just drove in front of the machne and let the machine move in front of the headlight w/o turning on my headlights and then move to the next station to pass to next colleague and he went back up the queue to serve next customer. Its not my first time going for full inspection. Been doing it for my last two cars already. The below are the procedure : 1st station is overall check + chassis and engine number 2nd station is front and rear brake 3rd station is side slip 4th station is headlight 5th station is undercarriage 6th station is check window tint and get Pass cert. So remember to go at busy hour. The STA Ayer Raja inspection the station sequence is different. 1st station undercarriage 2nd station overall check + chassis & engine number 3rd station headlight + rest of lighting check (rear light, signal light & reverse light) + exhaust emission 4th station Brakes + side slip Then get cert
Yeobh 4th Gear January 29, 2011 Share January 29, 2011 (edited) Each and every station operator can design different type of layout depending on car volume per day, no. of inspectors per lane, building design, etc etc. Here is a Jap station , can you spot the headlight tester ? Octopus 3rd Gear January 29, 2011 Share January 29, 2011 (edited) Headlight tester should be the big monitor (TV) near ground level, behind yellow railing. My recent headlight test it fail badly. Results seem worst than my previous COE car. But yet from driver's view, it seems fine. The inspector say its the computer cannot detect accurately, and its normal. Zyrofillica 1st Gear January 29, 2011 Share January 29, 2011 NOW this makes abit of sense... over 20 yrs the paint on the bonnet will be the first to go due to heat from engine. so bonnet wrap protects the paint from heat.
Yeobh 4th Gear January 29, 2011 Share January 29, 2011 Yes the headlight is located in front of the undercarriage inspection section that is in the 1st stage testing bay. With most of the cars equipped with HID headlights, the the Jap are testing the headlights with a much more advance tester .
Yeobh 4th Gear January 29, 2011 Share January 29, 2011 Under our all year hot summer weather, most of the car body paint will start loosing its shine within 2 to 3 yrs time.

Yeobh 4th Gear January 29, 2011 Share January 29, 2011 (edited) Headlights are subjected to two tests conducted via the light capturing tester - one is brightness test the other alignment test. Since yrs is stock, chances your headlight may not be bright enough or the alignment is out. Edited January 29, 2011 by Yeobh ↡ Advertisement
