BlueSwifts 3rd Gear February 2, 2017 Share February 2, 2017 how about the S tronics on the audi A4? Is it the same problematic issues? I am going to sound like a broken record for all things A4. Answer is no... for now. Audi A4 and above uses the Longitudinal Gearboxes which are different from VW's dry clutch transverse 7-Spd DSG. The front wheel drive Audis on the new A4 1.4, A5 2.0, and current gen A6 and A7 uses the DL382-7F wet clutch gearbox while the Quattro variants found in the A4 2.0L uses the DL382-7Q. So far I havent heard of any major gb issues from these vehicles. ↡ Advertisement

I only hate the parts prices and the limitation of knowledgeable third party workshops for the VAG vehicles no, the A3 and below that uses the dry clutch 7 speed DSG (packaged as S-Tronic). some drivers have reported having the same inherent issues as the VW DSGs. my FIL is one of them and he is looking to get rid of his car soon. of course, some defensive ones will come and say "it doesn't happen to my car, so the S-Tronic has no issues" and thus think we are flaming. generally, if the gearbox is wet then it should be safe. Wt_know Supersonic February 2, 2017 Share February 2, 2017 (edited) can apply KY on VW 7 speed "dry" DSG .. sure wet wet no friction generally, if the gearbox is wet then it should be safe. Edited February 2, 2017 by Wt_know
merc280v6 6th Gear February 2, 2017 Share February 2, 2017 A3 and A1 models use same 7-dry DSG as VW, mated to their transverse-mounted engines. I believe the A4 will soon part ways with its long-standing longitudinal-mounted engine. Would that also signal the dawn of <2L A4s going the same 7-dry DSG variant route? Karu 6th Gear February 2, 2017 Share February 2, 2017 (edited) My Friend's A6 got DSG stalled in the middle of expressway. Not sure if it's the same inherent issue as the DSG I was told 2014 onwards DSG are OK? True? One thing for sure, I'm steering far away from VW & Audi after 6 years of trouble with my VW. Also notice less VW on the road these days. All scrapped? My former SE already jumped ship to Tan Chong... Edited February 2, 2017 by Karu
Keithchue 5th Gear February 2, 2017 Share February 2, 2017 confirm A3 and below all VW dq200, dry clutch.... went to look at the A3 1.0 few weeks ago, confirm the GB is the dry one....

The 1.0 A3 is too new, it's dry clutch but SE mentioned it's an improved version in view of known GB issues that plagued the predecessors. Can't tell till years down the road. Theoldjaffa Hypersonic February 2, 2017 Share February 2, 2017 SE mentioned it's an improved version in view of known GB issues that plagued the predecessors. yeah they can say what they like. time will tell. i hope it really improves. A3 is a vfm car if the gearbox is reliable enough.

Can't tell till years down the road. That's what they always say... unless it's a totally different gearbox, it can't be trusted. VW also said their DSG "fixed liao, fixed liao", but still same problems cropping up. It's not so easy to fix a design flaw, unless whole thing is redesigned from scratch. Karu 6th Gear February 2, 2017 Share February 2, 2017 Funny that the Audi SEs are trying to distant Audi's technology from VW's. Saying that their engine layout is different, gearbox different etc... But I'm not an expert, so can't verify. Only know that majority of the parts are shared. So if there's design or material inherent fault then how can Audi be much better off. Can't tell till years down the road.SEs have been using that line since 2012, about improved DSG design BTW ... Just today, while queueing up into Paragon basement carpark, just around the first bend, a tow truck with blinking lights was exiting with a white New Beetle in tow!
