Auto gearbox maintenance

Found a pic online which can speak a thousand words.

 

When jus changed, it's like the colour as in the pic. In abt one month time, turn to new engine oil colour already.

 

 

Ok, tks. Maybe will buy the ATF from stockist, then go jb pay 30ringit for labour to do drain and fill.

Looking at the pic on right is fresh ATF n on left is after u run it awile but its still in very good condition n can last easy 20-30K km more b4 u do a drail n fill.

 

I ever bought 2nd hand cars n when I changed the ATF the colour was like Kopi-O n still it was fine n no problems. Maybe it was there since car from showroom n done 60-80K km alrdy.

 

Generally most manufacturers say ATF no need to change. Use till autobox spoil then send for overhaul n all done together.

 

For me I prefer to maintain car in tip-top condition so I do a bit more service where n when I can.

 

Even the rubber seals around the doors get a treat of ArmourAll every year. Hahahah.

Dear Members,

 

Last Sun, I realized that the shifting of the gear was too smooth with no resistance at all. When I reached at one location, I could not engage my reverse gear. My car moved forward despite that the reverse gear was engaged. I tried to shift the gears but the indicator at the front panel was stucked at Drive. Afterwhich, the gear lever stucked at park mode. I had no choice but to call for tow service. Appreciate if you all could advice whether the following charges were ok for the repair.

 

(1) Auto Cable snapped - $120

(2) Lower arms going to give way - replaced the left and right at $210

(3)Front and Rear brake pads 80% used - replaced front at $48, rear at $58

(4)Replace Boot in $15 (what is this?)

(5) Link Side Bars (think is the suspension) replaced left and right - $136

(6) Towing - $55

(7)WS informed that the engine oil was low (left 1/4)

(a) Changed to Mobil 1 engine oil fully syn $103, (b) Oil Filter $10 © and replaced the leaking gasket

(8) Labour Charges - $250

(9) Spark plugs going to be finished (replaced to Diamond Spark Plugs $68)

 

Total Damage with servicing = $1133

 

In the past, my steering really got prob and the tyre workshop I went to in JB always told me the chamfer got problem and I was asked to replace the bolts. Replaced 3 times at different tyre sides. Think the real problem might be the lower arms instead. After the repair, lesser noise during idling and car is very powerful. Very smooth ride.

 

So am I overcharged? My car still left 2 years 1 month. I felt lucky that they never said my gearbox chiu.

Just change mine 6 solenoid sensor at AT , cost $350.00. Hope it will work. Or else have to change transmission. Faulty code found P0772.

I have to agree with you. I am one of this driver before.

My first drive was Japan make -Toyota corolla. Not knowing much about maintenance routine and also taking for granted driving Toyota is very reliable. I drove my car for 4yrs @ 35,000km mileage per year. I change only engine oil and nothing else.

Think of the past, I am very lucky to avoid heavy repair cost. Now, I have learned from forum Bros and schedule my maintenance accordingly. I have changed almost all wear & tear parts including alternator and absorbers Front & Rear, lower arm, L-links etc. Of course, things still breakdown but is manageable. Driving a almost 8yrs civic and still moving strong.

Normal service like change engine oil, plugs. air filter etc I wil follow the 10K km or what the handbook says cos it takes abt 8-10 months for my car to hit 10K km.

 

For the ATF I do the drain n fill every 20-30K km with mineral ATF. Now I use synthetic ATF I only do the drain n fill every 60K km.

 

Usually Altis sud not have too many problems as its a reliable car n easy n cheap to maintain.

 

B&B = Bread n Butter (Normal)

There is more to proper maintenence of a car than just change oil.

 

I think thats why some pple have so many problems with their car cos ty dun maintain it properly?

 

I even do the Power Steering fluid flush n change brake fluid n radiator coolant regularly.

 

I even grease the door hinges n locks. I apply Armourall to the door seal rubbers every year. Treat my leather seats with leather conditioner.

Just curious is there a filter inside the transmission!

 

Yesterday, when I was in JB workshop, witness the mechanic open up bottom pan of transmission of Toyota Axio.

Owner said there is a filter inside the transmission that mechanic recommend to change it.

Your problem initially was your GB, which caused you to get your car towed. And then in the end you are getting 9 repairs done, none of which is related to the GB? No need to change ATF, instead change brake pads?

 

It's like getting a plumber to come check your bathroom sink, in the end he help you change your air con filter.

 

I suggest you get the WS to really look at the GB. From what you have described, even if you have spent $1133 on the items above, the GB issue may still come back.

Most autobox has a ATF filter inside.

 

That seldom need to change. Mine already 160K km still never change.

 

If I renew COE on my Optra then I wil change it. U must change new pan gasket too hor. U need to drop the pan to access. If got magnets. Have them cleaned too.

B careful. Some mechs see u blur blur type wil ask u do all sorts of repairs which r not necessary.

 

Thats how they make big bucks.

 

Sometimes a simple oil change end up the mech ask pple to overhaul engine even. Hahahaha.

Charges look reasonable. Some items are routine maintenance, some are wear and tear better to replace now.
