Civic6228 6th Gear November 16, 2016 Share November 16, 2016 https://www.facebook.com/Roads.sg/videos/1350411498324583/ If the front blue car had switched-on hazard light...this accident might have been avoided. You must be joking .... at the speed that the cam car was going there is no way that he can stop his car in time ... with or without the hazard lights in front. The cam car is to be blamed for causing the accident especially for the poor motor bike. He should not have swing his car to the right and cut into the other lane. You are right that the accident could have been avoided if the cam driver just knock straight into the car in front. ↡ Advertisement

Ktglfc Hypersonic November 16, 2016 Share November 16, 2016 Nah! In this thread Our Ref: LTA/P&P/F20.017.000/6848/1/VT Tel : 63961626 Fax : 63961650 Dear Sir PROPER USE OF HAZARD LIGHTS FEEDBACK NUMBER: 605164 Please allow us to explain that hazard warning lights are fitted on vehicles to warn other persons of the presence of a temporary obstruction on the road. The hazard warning lights are useful in the following scenarios when a vehicle is stationary, or slow moving, or about to be pulled to a stationary position. However, during heavy downpour when the visibility is poor, it is dangerous to use the hazard warning lights while the vehicle is on the move. This is because it is likely to cause an accident as lane change indication will not be discernable to other road users as both lights are flashing. The enforcement officers from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Traffic Police (TP) are empowered to take action against any person who uses a vehicle in a manner likely to cause danger to other road user. The enforcement officers will exercise their discretion on the extent of danger it may pose before taking any action. We thank you for your feedback. Yours sincerely (SIGNED IN LOTUS NOTES) Celine Quek (Ms) Deputy Manager Community Engagement & Feedback *We invite you to share your views on land transport related issues with us at http://talk2lta.lta.gov.sg. Now, you can also send us your feedback via SMS at "77LTA" (77582). cc Traffic Police Email: [email protected] This gonna go as another hogger vs gater issue Thanks for sharing Mod :) Cleared a lot of discussion here :)) So, the hazard lights are useful when a vehicle is about to be pulled to a stationary position .. meaning its ok to use when about to park into a lot :)
Vratenza Supersonic November 16, 2016 Share November 16, 2016 There was once while I was on PIE on an off peak period, dry clear day, came to a stop behind an unexpected jam, behind me was clear all the way for at least 20 car lengths based on my rear view mirror estimate. Saw a transcab appear in my rear view mirror going straight towards me... I was observing the taxi with my corner of my eye while waiting for the car in front to start inching off. I literally can see the taxi only start to brake 4 car lengths away and bam! I got rear ended. The taxi lao came out of the cab say sorry sorry... Dunnoe why he brake already already still cannot stop in time... I one look at his tires.. Almost bald... I told him " uncle, your tires like that, you should brake much earlier mah..." Anyway, it is a waste time waste energy event... Have to claim insurance and get my boot repaired. Would putting on my hazard light on make a difference? I don't know, but for sure it should be the perogative of the driver to keep a safe following distance for the alertness level and condition his car is in. Unfortunately probably 20% of the drivers in SG has such self awareness and responsible car ownership behaviour.
7hm Turbocharged November 16, 2016 Share November 16, 2016 (edited) i have an experince driving down from Penang on thr NS highway near Ipoh. it rains so heavy we cant even see more than few meters ahead. it is simply too dangerous to stop although everybody slow down. so, the next best thing is to switch on the hazzard lights which everybody did. the blinking gives us thr distance and guide the car behind the direction forward. so i am not sure this is right but nobody is overtaking. I would say, that in Singapore, due to our culture and road layout it is poorly advised to do this. In the NSHW, the Malaysians are guai guai and won't randomly change lane unlike Singaporeans and their exits can be very far apart. Also, Malaysia probably has a higher quantity of older or cheaper vehicles that may not be equipped with rear foglamps. Whereas here, in heavy fog, alll those atas vehicles that do have them can use them. I don't think it's illegal to use them in the actual heavy fog situation. But I really still don't see why people think blinking hazards are absolutely more visible and better for distance judgement than tail lights. To add, for some car make's auto self parking feature to work, you have to turn on the turning indicator to the side you intend for the car to search and identify the lot before the system will engage the function. So even the turn indicator for parking is hard coded into auto self parking systems. Yeah. This is true. old fart but, like u said, Lotus was king (of the rd) I not so old still know what is lotus notes... i how ah? getting dementia already!? to be clear, i use signal indicators....but hor..99% use hazards.... when waiting, perhaps hazards, but when starting to go into the lot, use signal. Tio bo? I started off using indicators only. But then my passenger keep saying that people don't understand this. Use hazards. Got one time some lorry behind me tailgate me when I signaled left to parallel park. Dodo. So now I indicate towards the side I spot a lot, then turn on hazards just before starting the parking manuever. But if you ask me if everyone just understood one-side indicator it's better and tells people where you wanna park There was once while I was on PIE on an off peak period, dry clear day, came to a stop behind an unexpected jam, behind me was clear all the way for at least 20 car lengths based on my rear view mirror estimate. Everyday driving or riding in taxi, I dunno why, it seems more than 80% of them brake hard and late. In my opinion they should take more economical driving styles to keep their wear and tear articles going longer with their crazy daily mileages Edited November 16, 2016 by 7hm
