duh... is that a racist comment from you??

You should know how sensitive such comments are nowadays. If one want to be provocative, I think one should stick to being xenophobic rather than racist.

or u mean racialist...according to Ali G

I guess for most lay users, it's all about using something as simply as they possibly can. Agree on some of the processes u mentioned like in app settings. but perhaps, more often than not, folks just use the app rather than tweak settings.

anyway from personal observation, a lot of ppl i know are still using IOS. Tablets are def ipad. i do see some switching to Android, mainly S3 or Note. I think it says a lot about the general consumer. Folks mainly just take pics, surf, compose msgs, phone calls, save notes. And whoever can make these experiences as sweet as possible wins the day.

don't see u commenting about wp8. it's def worth checking out as it'll be more closely matched with win8, which im sure u'll have to use someday anyway.

Yes and no again. I was using app settings as an example for inconsistency. However IMHO the main criteria for simplicity most of the time is keeping the number of steps down.

Say something more frequent like turning off bluetooth or wifi is a two step process in Android but its 4 and 3 in iOS respectively.

Usage of apps is about the same though sometimes you get a better coded app in one (e.g. Facebook for iOS) or a more functional one in the other (e.g. Facebook for Android).

Sometimes the OS limitations make things harder, say tabbed browsing from Flipboard (I believe its the top RSS reader app for both platforms) where you're forced to go to the embedded browser in iOS before you can open it in Safari, etc.

In terms of just using, I consider this marginal (other than mobile safari you POS excuse for an app) as it doesn't show if the difference is significant or not, but people are stuck with the notion that android apps are buggy, but a reality check shows that...

http://www.bgr.com/2012/02/03/ios-apps-cra...ps-study-shows/ [laugh]

Besides mobile safari, one more thing annoys me with iOS. The cursor input for text corrections. It does not allow me to place the cursor into the middle of a word to make an edit. I have to place it behind and delete everything up to the point of the error.

It's not all bad for iOS though. It's back up service is excellent. Works quietly and behind the scenes well. Something Android could well learn, but overall, people can't really say iOS is simpler anymore, at least not for phones. In the tablet space, Android is only just starting to pick up (seriously why does Google always have to have a reference device before manufacturers start doing things right???), that being said Android is being really aggressive in this area http://www.pc-tablet.com/7490-apple-ipad-m...sing-ipad-mini/

Oh it may be about time to consider if you should sell any AAPL stocks you have in the near future. Not yet, but IMHO not too far off either

http://www.valuewalk.com/2012/10/apple-inc...d-mini-release/

It hasn't had any price drops this drastic between 2009 and now, and even though it's gone up, its had two big dips this year.

I don't say much about wp8 because I haven't used it [laugh] My experience with 7 and 7.5 was excellent in the simplicity stakes, but the app ecosystem is still very lacking. Besides FB, Twitter, a lot of people use apps for instagram, pinterest, etc which are not available on WP (in the case of the latter 3rd party apps api's were blocked), so I'm not sure what the uptake will be like for a lot of people bar older folk (because in addition to the social media folk, a lot of non social media folk are using these services).

actually for this editing, u can hold the finger down on the screen, then a magnifying glass appear which you can pull it and place it at any error part for editing....

hope this helps....

arh.... apparently you hardly use iPhone/iPad much, and though I like android in most of the features, but I mentioned earlier dun get me started on the input, edit, copy/paste on android, it is bloody irritating or as good as not having it! I think some user agree when I said that.

Would be nice to know why it's irritating.

I've never had a problem with it. Long-press, drag the limits of the copy-paste region if going to copy-paste more than just the current word, select cut or copy at the top, then long-press and paste wherever.

Of course, YMMV depending on the device and OS version. I'm on JB for the TF700T, which isn't without its problems (Asus crippled it with a crappy emmc chip, kinda like putting 185/14/65 tyres on a Ferrari Enzo), but is still smooth and powerful enough to use for work all day even when I'm compiling technical documents.

Can Android phone switch text input... EN, CN, Malay etc on the fly? Last year when I tried, cannot. Now can?

Whenever I want to write chinese in MCF, I will switch to iPad or iPhone.

i think what ppl refer iOS to be simpler is not in term of efficiency. but simple to use. in front of you just the icons/buttons, nothing much. click on icons = launch an app. so you dont need to think and learn.

personally, i find that it too messy, especially when i want to do things fast. so i prefer Android. or even win7 phone is better in term of this.

I am asking you what is the problem with China/Aunty?

And you avoid answering me and tried to get me into trouble?

Lucky, you mentioned "high powered environment" else I would immediately assumed you worked in the fish market.

Actually, I think it is perfectly all right to compare people by their car. It does say quite a lot about the person actually, probably more so than the phone. I believe the choices people make, like their car, phone, etc, tells you things about them.

For me, iphone is something of an "old gen" product for the older generation. Aunties is probably too limiting. Does it makes you feel better if I included "uncles"?

I think for the young generation like teenagers, Android is dominant.

PS: please don't take my comments too seriously...

seriously, i think you are one of the worse Andriod troll around this thread. [shakehead]

my colleague are all on iphone 5 now. and mind are around 20s and early 30s.

That's a bit tedious compared just taping where I want it to go and presto its there [laugh]

I do for mostly for viewing only now. The exception is spreadsheets. The large screen is a boon in this regard. For the rest, even with the much smaller screen size its far more expedient for me to do things on my nexus.

The process of copying and pasting is pretty much the same. The only difference is the location of the copy/cut/paste buttons.

That's why I said it's user dependant. Simple to me is doing something in the least number of steps, but to to others doing things like a zombie may be easier.

This is possible but the means to do it depends on whether you are on Gingerbread or on Ice Cream Sandwich now.

Firstly, you need to determine whether you wish to use a keyboard that is capable of multi-language support e.g. Go Keyboard, Smart Keyboard Pro. If you opt for such keyboards, it will make matters easier for the keyboard will incorporate the ability to switch between the languages natively. For example, i could register a swipe gesture on the soft keyboard to change language on the fly in Smart Keyboard Pro or i could press a designated language key to toggle.

Secondly, if you decide to have a secondary keyboard that supports your other languages then you need to be able to switch between keyboards on the fly. This is where the difference between Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich comes in. In GB, you have to long press in the text entry area and wait for Input Methods to popup. Press on it and switch to whichever keyboard you need.

In ICS, tap on a text entry area and then you should be able to see a keyboard icon popup on your taskbar. Swipe down to bring down your notification menu and tap on the keyboard object. You can then select your desired keyboard on the fly.

brother, do you input chinese words via handwriting recognition?

one thing that samsung/android clearly stands out against apple and other keyboard apps maker is the chinese handwritting recognition ability.

as you see, i am left hander. my strokes are little bit different from right hander. only samsung's/android's factory loaded handwriting recognition technology works well for left hander. i suspect it recognises the looks or image of the word rather than just strokes. but unfortunately, after i upgraded my os, the default loaded keyboard setting for chiense language is gone. hence now i cannot use that to recognise my chinese handwritting.

while i use go! keyboard, its chinese handwritting recognitin also recognises the stroke rather than the image of the word. so now i have to force myself to write like a right hander......argghhh
