Agree with you that Toyota doesn't have anything attractive model on offer.  However 7,466 Singaporeans did find Toyota attractive enough to part with their hard earned money and buy a new Toyota last year (2025). Another 671 Singaporeans also found something attractive in Toyota last month (Jan-2026). So there's lots of Singaporeans who love their Toyotas and willing to open their wallets to keep Toyota at No.2 position on the podium.

Good know that most Singaporeans are open minded and willing to give another brand such as BYD a try. They not stupid - once they discover the value for money on offer in terms of features, tech and quality.

Are all 7,466 under private registration? If not, these stats won’t reveal the full picture. Borneo has nothing to fear though as their sales is partly backed by PHV. Knowing how many percent of private ownership makes up would be useful info.

Useful for?

PI sells about 2.4k Toyota of which 1.9k are MPV.

My guess is PHV probably 1.5k out of 7.5k.

My observation is most SGreans are not open minded...until they have taken a ride brands which they love to "hate"..😆

Their bZ4X is nicely spec (7.4sec century sprint), very spacious, and well priced, and have alot of buttons and knobs on the dashboard. Even 22kW ac charging some more. Would have gotten this over Tesla and other China EVs if I am in the market for one that is around $200k. Should have no problem winning back some diehard Toyota fans.

Sad thing is Toyota has little to zero luck when comes to EV including the flagship bZ4X having suffered a very public recall due to faulty rims...

There's an on going class action law suit against Toyota (as well as Subaru) on premature failure of the 12V auxiliary battery here: https://www.carscoops.com/2025/10/subaru-and-toyota-sued-as-their-evs-keep-dying/

Do note that the number in the class action law suit is low: currently its 10.

Did you notice the date when the above was released?

Definitely resolved after more than 3.5 years later. Japanese car makers generally got more conscience than the rest of the world. If it is from China makers then I will still worry.

It is she don’t like China made cars? Or she really only don’t like BYD?

Maybe associating China cars with China Xiao Long Ni. Doesn't want her hubby to have anything to do with them.

I mean the cars.

This is an interesting case not involving the EV's CATL high-voltage battery but rather the lithium Ion Panasonic.low voltage 12V.

For those more informed about Japan EV development, that 2022 news was already a bad publicity for the world's biggest and most reliable brand in the industry.  The context of this cannot be lost after a string of strategic screw up, delayed promises and vapourware products...As some may know, for decades, Toyota bet on H2-Fuel cell and held on to its famous hybrid "Hybrid Synergy Drive" power train for too long.

By end 2010s, Toyota management notice things are not getting anywhere. I supposed Akio Toyoda belatedly realized the Chinese battery tech had caught up.

How Chairman of Toyota react to this reality is more telling...

While we are arguing here, China is drafting the standard for autonomous driving.

It will be issued in July 2027

Ask any Canadians or Europeans today their attitude towards Chinese EV vs Tesla branding, and many SGreans will be surprised, if not shocked 😆

I think the drastic drop in Tesla share in Europe is partly due to politics.

Precisely - politics can either make or break a brand (for the wrong reason) 🤣
