As the new year comes around, it is time to eat my words as the rolexes are looking more and more tempting and my B&R is becoming a tad too loud for daily wear.

So the question is Explorer I or Submariner? And is it worth paying more for a Submariner with date?

I am open to both though the no date seems cleaner.

yup sure...

I actually had wanted to get a sub instead; but my wife has always liked the santos..... so I bought the latter

i'm not sure..... dont want it to be another piece which I wear and sell again within a year. waste money.

as much as i like its quirkiness, it seems a bit over the top

Dear all, been following this wonderful tread and I'm embarking on a mission to buy a watch too...My budget is 13k and I'm looking at Rolex watches...but have not mustered up the courage to walk into the shops cos I'm really afraid that I might embarrass myself...with my budget, will I be able to get a half gold submarine?

I'm more inclined towards the sub no date coz of its cleaner look. Just checked the price at Rolex shop, its just below $10k for the black face version.

submariner bro.

(13k will never get u a submarine)

I don't think so leh. but u shld ask. HSBC (or std chrt?) offering 10% rebate on the watch purchased from dickson (up to 2k rebate). that probably could help a bit.

Hongkong no gst, so no tax refunds

But their AD prices are lower than Spore AD. What you pay for a Rolex from HK AD is about what you will pay when buying from a Spore PI

back from hong kong, saw lotsa rolexes there.. particularly from chow tai fook

tissot is advertising heavily there too

i was told there are no tax rebates in hong kong for shopping.. so if u bought a rollie there, there's not much savings i guess.

I saw a vintage girard perregaux classic dress watch with black main dial and creamy white second sub dial.

Somewhat in the likes of a Calatrava.

Very beautiful. Didnt buy becos i never wear elegant dress watches, now regret..... Sigh...
