SINGAPORE: The driver of a Mercedes lost control of his car while reversing at the car park of Block 102 at Yishun Avenue 5.

 

The Mercedes crashed into a Toyota Camry in the car park, mounted the pavement, and continued onto a common area between some shophouses and a food centre.

 

CCTV footage from outside one of the shops, showed the Mercedes in reverse, with the driver's door open, hitting several goods stocked outside the shops.

 

It also hit a newspaper shop owner, a passer-by, and a woman believed to be a childcare centre teacher.

 

Eyewitnesses say the teacher was flung a short distance.

 

Two elderly members of the public also injured themselves, when they fell as a result of the incident.

 

The five victims were sent to the nearby Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

 

Police investigations are ongoing.

I still don't understand why so many people like to

 

- cut across loading/unloading/rubbish chute/service roads to apartment blocks when they can walk safely through connecting walking pathways.

 

- even when cutting across, why must still continue to walk towards a reversing car/vehicle???

my guess is reverse gear thought driving gear... where got floor pedal so hard during reversing....? many years ago a man same case.. private house... reverse gear thought forward gear.. whack accelerator and killed a family member. iirc toddler son. but this guy reverse too far liao.. isit after realise its reverse whole person stunned and duno how to release accelerator...?

yes, should never walk in the path of a reversing vehicle. that is dumb.

 

yet i still see lots of old folks or adults with children do that. really stupid and dumb.

yeah, this type deserved to be knocked down. Sometimes when I reverse park, sure got some kuku - instead of walking ANYWHERE else, must choose big big open lot to walk through the carpark !! Want to donate organs issit ?? ta ma de !!

My accelerator got stuck once (mat was not properly placed) was at multi storey car park....paniced a bit but reaction is immediately press brake....very lucky cause only very short distance to car in front....and mat wasnt press accelerator too hard...btw reversing i seldom use accelerator at all.....even then the speed too fast to move safely and confidentaly...dont know why ppl use accelerator when reversing...

Step wrongly also won't go such a long distance mah, I thought the driver fainted with his foot on accelerator or what?

i agree. i never use my accelerator whenever i'm reversing.. i'm not in such a hurry that i need to reverse at 60/km/h..also the danger of flooring the accelerator when in reverse gear..if you've engaged the wrong gear..that's it man.

 

at least if you just release brakes and let the car roll.. you still have time to slam brakes.
